Probably not, either Universal owns those rights, or somebody else does since Paramount sold off all of the Dreamworks live-action catalog.

Universal owns gladiator I just checked.Shard said:Probably not, either Universal owns those rights, or somebody else does since Paramount sold off all of the Dreamworks live-action catalog.

I believe Paramount only kept the animated library of dreamworks titles when they bought dreamworks
Pachinko said:Years upon years for dvd to overtake vhs ? I'd say it took 3 to match and 5 to demolish. I'm just using the videostore shelf as an example here though. 2001 dvd and vhs had pretty well equal shelf space but by 2002 VHS was getting pushed aside near the bottom with only 10 copies compared to dvd's 50+ and in 2003 the vhs rentals were almost nonexistent, it became hard to even find them in stores to buy them unless it was older stuff.
I don't see HDDVD lasting more then 2 more years before you see it's releases dwindle, even with much cheaper players , generally most people are under the impression that dvd hooked up through oldschool RCA jacks on their 1080p capable brand new television all upscaled and looking crappy is the best they'll get for picture quality. This is going to remain a battle for sales amongst a small hardcore enthusiast group and only after those enthusiasts pretty well go bluray by buying a ps3 or some eventually cheaper BRD player well a winner of this war be decided and the casual market for this stuff follow. It'll be 2010 before bluray really starts to take off though and it's sales will never catch up with or exceed those of DVD.

This is how the new optical discs should have been. No stupid flipper combo discs without labels. A 1080p movie that when you put it in a regular DVD player plays it in standard def. That way you can just phase out regular DVDs and introduce Blu-ray/HD DVD etc...

Well, DVDE's chart is more to-the-point. But if you want to look at Amazon, the current chart shows Blu-Ray with 6 of the top 10, including number 1.Cheebs said:I can understand tracking amazon everyone buys on amazon.
But who the hell uses DVD Empire?
Some HD DVDs in Japan have already been released that have HD DVD & DVD on a single side. They are known as TWIN format discs (as opposed to COMBO)DarkJediKnight said:I think had either format was able to devise a disc that worked like games, for example, if you have a HDtv, you can view it in HD, if you have a standard tv, your game will display in 480.

HD-DVD is the official format of the DVD Forum so it would not make any sense for them to support their rival. It would be like Nintendo putting games on PS3.mckmas8808 said:So when will the DVD forum allow the Blu-ray group to use DVD and BD on the same disc?
as long as the disc meets certain specs, I think this is already allowed...mckmas8808 said:So when will the DVD forum allow the Blu-ray group to use DVD and BD on the same disc?

French news site DVDRama has posted details on the latest HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc announcements from Warner Home Video.
A translation of the release schedule is as follows. (Titles marked "HD DVD only" are currently not scheduled to appear on Blu-ray Disc at this time. The larger majority of these titles appear to be HD DVD exclusive due to the fact that the Blu-ray system's more limited and less organised Interactive capabilities make the "In-Movie Experience" (IME) feature difficult to implement).

Great news for Europeans HD-DVD owners. And there's some major losses right here for the Blu-Ray releases, until they fix all those Java BR issues that is.

Unveiled today, Warner Home Video's 2007 Blu-ray title line-up should look familiar to those following the studio's exploits on rival format HD DVD.
In fact, in what has to be a first, Warner's Monday Blu-ray press release is just about identical to its Sunday HD DVD announcement, seemingly aided only by a handy "Search and Replace."
While the studio previewed several high-profile titles bound for Blu-ray in 2007, Warner gave only one new title a firm street date, the Martin Scorsese flick 'The Departed,' which will hit Blu-ray simultaneously with the HD DVD version on February 13.
Other A-list new releases due in 2007 are to include 'Blood Diamond,' 'We Are Marshall' and the animated blockbuster 'Happy Feet.'
Catalog, too, will highlight Warner's upcoming Blu-ray plans, including the much-anticipated 'Matrix' trilogy, all the 'Harry Potter' films, both 'Ocean's 11' and 'Ocean's 12,' plus the Steve McQueen classics 'Bullitt' and 'The Getaway.'
Hopefully, Warner has a bit more exciting news up its sleeve for later in the show -- perhaps a look at the studio's first Total HD combo-disc releases?
In the meantime, we'll be updating our Blu-ray Release Schedule to include all of the titles referenced in today's announcement.

Oh yeah, because HD-DVD isn't dead or dying.
LJ11 said:Warner is basically delaying their releases (Matrix etc) on HD-DVD until BDA can gets it act together with BD-J. By June all new players must support BD-J. If Warner was truly neutral/fair, why don't they release their titles on HD-DVD now? HD-DVD has their shit together and they should release them now. Instead they hold them off until Blu-Ray is ready.
amillians said:It's not BD-J that's causing the issue, it's the BDA's date for Profile 1.1 that's causing the issue. As of June 1, 2007, all *new* Blu-ray players are required to be Profile 1.1 compliant, which means PiP support, more storage, etc. The date was picked to let CEs get up-to-speed on PiP for Blu-ray, as PiP was a late feature entrant to the spec.
IME is just a marketing slogan to describe PiP-esque things. The reality is that you can't do PiP on Blu-ray right now without resorting to 2 copies of the film, which eats up storage and bandwidth. Once both platforms reach feature parity (post June 2007), neutral studios won't have to hold back titles or do one side only.
