It's been some time since Sony gave the PSN an overhaul introducing tiered PlayStation Plus subscriptions. The Premium tier promised access to a catalog of the best PlayStation classics.

Not long after, Sony increased the price by a modest 33%, justifying it as a move to improve quality.

Currently the library holds around 150 classics. But given the size of the Playstation 1-3 library, it's still missing a lot of masterpieces. How well or bad does the premium catalog score for you? Are you satisfied with the catalog of does it fall short.

So far it’s okay. We will see what this year brings. It has been a very slow trickle of games and they are still holding some big first party ones hostage.

There is some great stuff on there, but they're missing a lot of the titles that get associated with their older platforms. Some baffling omissions as well - I can play the original Medievil and its PSP remake, but not the actual sequel?

I subbed for it thinking they would do more with it. There were so many classics already released on PS3. I did not renew my sub once it expired.

I'm satisfied but only because I own physicals of nearly everything worthwhile on there, as well as the games that people clamor for.

I will say though, and I always say it in these threads...PS3 streaming is completely fine on PS5 (for what it is). If you sold your shit and want remasters of 50 PS3 games, buy stock in kleenex. Otherwise, play the PS3 games that are on there and be happy that the option exists.

If it were up to me, I'd ban your ass for life on PSN because you were foolish enough to sell your PS Triple. Unforgivable.

I was excited to replay Timesplitters and loaded it up then was swiftly reminded why old games are awful to go back too.

I’ll just stick to new stuff.

the biggest issue is the mediocre emulation and lack of emulation settings. I'm sticking to PC emulators for PS1...

dirty casual! especially Timesplitters 2 is still amazing. way better than most modern shooters.

Sky Gunner, Mister Mosquito, Echochrome, No Heroes Allowed!, Jeanne d'Arc, I.Q.: Intelligent Qube, I.Q.: Final and Jumping Flash! among many others.
Yeah, I'm thinking based.

Pretty terrible.

I stopped subscribing to Premium and dropped to Extra after the first year. I only went back to Premium for the VR games.

5/10

There are quality classics on offer and a fair slew of garbage nonsense.
Really need a trophy-enabled Legend of Legaia. And also Vagrant Story.

I agree with both of these comments. I've already got original physical discs of many of my favorite games from those eras. Even so, I've still replayed a few of those games in their "enhanced" forms.

The catalog also gave me the opportunity to play a few hidden gems that I never tried the first time around. Mister Mosquito is one such example.

Sony has done an admirable job of beefing up the classics catalog over the last year, but there's still so much more they can do to improve it. For one, it seems like most games are coming from a certain few publishers. I'd like to see more publishers get involved with dusting off their old back catalog and reintroducing them to the modern era.

There are usually only 3 or 4 PS1/PS2/PSP games each month. If more publishers show interest, then they can increase the number of classic games being revived. They don't necessarily have to be part of PS Plus Premium. There's also the possibility of releasing them for individual sale on PS Store, outside of the subscription service.

Fixed, you will be fine with most other genres, especially most platformers, isometric games, sidescrollers, arcade racing, and sports (since they peaked back then).

That’s true, I have no issues replaying the old Final Fantasy games, even the first one.
