I was bored, so I ran a few tests on Gran Turismo 3.

I was bored last night, so I decided to run a few tests on GT3. I bought a general performance car, a Mitsubishi FTO and decided to see exactly how accurate GT3's performance mods are in terms of achieving better 1/4 mile times. So here's what I did. I ran a 1/4 mile with the car fully stock, and every run after that I'd add a part until I could add no more. Here are my results:

At stock, my trap speed was 90MPH. After all of the mods, I managed to increase my trap speed by 25. Also, I broke torque for every launch to get a slightly quicker take-off. I know there's not much point in this thread, but it just never ceases to amaze me how deep GT3 is. I never even knew the game had a dyno-esque graph feature in the machine test mode.

I can't wait for GT4.

Hmm, that should increase aero-flow and reduce wheel spin on launch. I'm gonna' do that.

Good good. It's very interesting. Honestly i would never claim myself a god but i'm a excellent racer. I remember in GT2 ('cause i didn't played GT3 much) it was very difficult to find someone around that can match my performances and give me a hard time. I did find only one person ever that would be my "Ken" if i'm the "Ryu" of racing games.

Online GT4 will be great. I'm sure to find other great racers.

I really should get back to just racing in GT3 as a warm up for GT4. All i've been doing in GT3 over the past year is playing around with different drifts which really isn't going to do me much good for good race times. Especially since I only do show drifts for the most part.

13.517 @ 116

I tuned the suspension a bit. Increased the spring rate, decreased ride height by 11mm each, raised shock bound to level 9, and decreased rebound to 5. Gonna' experiment some more for better results.

Edit: 13.502 @ 116. Increased bound to level 10. Decreased rebound to 3.

13.498 is the best I got it, and that's only because I managed to launch slightly better. Can't get anything higher.

Edit: Gonna' do this with a new car. Audi S4.

Don't worry Wario64. Those times aren't necessarily made with a perfect racing line or whatever driving issues. What i mean by that is, for example, when i'm online with TOCA2, i'm not tuning my cars, i'm not driving manual transmission and i'm cockpit view. But i can get those precious 3-4 seconds over top racers because i drive good. Same thing apply in GT4. You have to tune your car but also you have to push it on the track for results.

how about changing the gear ratios, making 'em shorter, so that you reach your top speed by the end of the quarter mile instead of somewhere way past it.

Yes I was talking about the analyzer. You need to understand what the extenstion "esque" means. It's added on to a word when a word is used lightly. Granted, it doesn't show a dyno-slip, but they have similarities. Didn't mean to get your hopes up.

The car's top speed is 155 @ level 25 ratio setting. I'm trapping 133MPH, whatever adjusts I make won't probably give me much time, seeing as how my trap speed and top speed are so close together. But I'll give it a shot.

No differences in ratio changes. By improving my launch, I've managed to get a time of 10.500 flat. :p

Edit: 10.489, after ratio change to level 22. WOOT!

Now while the acceleration and speed are great, it seems that the handling is horrible.. like even at slow speeds the car skids everywhere. What the hell did I do? I might have messed up some settings, but I don't honestly remember if I did or not since i last played the game a long time ago. Is there anything that can be adjusted to improve handling?

Check your traction control settings, your ride height, spring rate and limited-slip differential settings.

It's kind of hard to fix a problem like that when you don't know too much about cars. :\

Interesting stuff RedMaiden. When you think about, Polyphony is so amazing with crafting a game code which can replicate such true-to-life results.

Also, I wonder what games Polyphony made before doing GT. Anyone know?

Motor Toon Grand Prix 1 & 2 were their first PSX games.

Omega Boost was another, but it was over a year after GT1's release.
