Ibex (Steam Controller 2) and Roy (new VR controller) render image leaked

Looks like Bradley accidentally sat on one of the Roys.

My pal has the Steam Controller, it's unwieldy for me and I much prefer the Dualsense, DS4 or Switch Pro Controller but the trackpads were interesting, maybe this new one will be a bit more ergonomic

They are both VR controllers.

One is for "bringing traditional games in to an all new immersive arena" the other pair is for their new headset.

Comparing to the quest 3 controllers I think I like ABXY on the right controller make some sense. It’s taking me a long time to know what the buttons are on quest without having to thing.

It's weird to me that the new vr controllers seem to not have a strap for the hand so that you can "let go" of everything without dropping the controller. The index controllers have that strap. Any reason why it got canned?

Steam Deck didn’t make sense to me until I held one either. Those track pads are gonna be a game changer for HTPC setups assuming the ergonomics are good.
This. The d-pad, sticks, and buttons feel so PERFECT where they sit, and the track pads could be upwards of 18 more buttons if you went crazy with them. I have literally zero complaints with the Deck other than lack of physical media, but I know that's a worthless argument with this device.

Day one, but I am curious about the ergonomics

Of they go Hall Effect for the sticks it'll be the perfect controller in terms of functionality

That's assuming they don't have clicky buttons. No button needs to click, the output/feedback is the game itself

If Deckard is wireless and integrates with Steam VR is as flawlessly as is possible, it'll be a buy from me. I love the Quest 3, but I would like something a little more plug and play. You'd hope Valve would be able to make the process a lot more seamless and easy.

Put me down for 4 of them. 2 for now, 2 to stay in the box when I want them in 5 years and valve isn't making them anymore.

Layout is exactly what I want, plus the additional bend in the controller housing will help it be a whole lot more comfortable.

Hoping for AA batteries as well. Eneloop ftw.

I think its safe to say the only reason these controllers will be discontinued is that there will eventually be a new iteration. Steam Deck has the interest that Steam Machines did not have. Plus, there will be no lawsuit regarding the new controller.
I think your safe at 2 controllers unless you really do need 4 for various machines. The collectability factor is probably not going to be there this time. Considering Gamesir seems to have leaked their Steam controller (again no trackpads, I wonder if Valve is not allowing that for third parties) it seems these controllers (Valves and 3rd parties) might hit mainstream acceptance and even show up at retail along with Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony controllers.

I'm concerned that Deckard/VR will be a niche thing nobody really wants, when Valve could instead put out a Steam console that disrupts the whole industry in a great way.

Even in the best case, Valve's version of a Meta Quest will not cause top shelf developers to make VR games.

A new Steam controller is interesting. Quite enjoyed the original as someone who prefers to kick back with a controller. Last played through the whole of Singularity with it using the trackpad for aiming, definitely put the time in getting used to its quirks :messenger_sunglasses:

What are people speculating regarding the price tag? I will get one regardless.
Depends how far they go with features.

If it has Gyro, decent haptics, touch pads, capacitive touch on the sticks like the deck that's a lot of stuff. Hoping they can keep the price reasonable though. $60 would be good.

IMO the major console manufacturers are likely gouging with their prices. If 8bitdo can makee solid controllers with a lot of modern features for under $50 then valve can do it too.

I'm hoping the controller is a harbinger of valve thinking very seriously about a "steambox" console.

It HAS to happen. There are already systems you could install SteamOS on and practically have it:

There's a few extra things Valve can improve on by making a 'first party' version (plus improve on cost), and we basically have a 4th console out there.

Those trackpads are insanely flexible in terms of what can be done on them thanks to Steam Input. That is assuming the ones on the controller is similar to the ones on the Steam Deck.

Assuming they'll allow the same functionality as the Steam Deck - pre-set layouts from the Deck might be accessible on this controller. I have a very specific layout I use on the Steam Deck when I play Ready or Not, if I could bring that over 1:1 onto this new controller paired with a high powered PC then it's an easy buy for me.

Add in capacitive touch on the sticks, and gyro aiming and we're totally in business here.

Though to take the enthusiasm back down a notch - I need to see the back of this thing. for the L4/R4 L5/L5 paddles that is.
