and went on to revolutionise first person shooters.
Miyamoto was a toy maker and went on to design the game that revolutionised platformers and the game that revolutionised
and in part established action adventures.
Fujibayashi (director of BOTW) designed attractions in theme parks before going to Nintendo and from there getting into game design.
Kojima studied economics, was a film nut and revolutionised/invented stealth games...
and neither Akira Nishitani, Akira Yasuda went to school for game design before completely revolutionising fighting games with Street Fighter 2,
a game basically every modern fighting game is still based on at the core.
notice how none of them went to school for game design. neither did the best and most revered tabletop game designers (an adjacent profession).
it's almost like designing games is something that doesn't need to be taught in school, and can be mastered by just direct practice (easy these days with tons of free engines), asking yourself how you can use the medium in interesting ways, and how to use its strengths to its fullest potential.

Woke stuff feels like a virus. Devs seem more focused on pushing their politics and viewpoints instead of actually making their games fun, no wonder so many games are bombing. Concord, for example, was mechanically sound but it had nothing else to it. No gameplay loop or sense of purpose to entice players to keep playing. Pair that with horrible design, inspired levels, sounds and music, you have a legendary bomb. Wonder how long money minded publishers will tolerate all this crap.

Those slides do not look like they come from a game design class. At all. The slide about designing a fighting game character that isn't male or female is...something and the Cloud one is just stupid. The Lara Croft one is a criticism of her character, as well.
I really hope the commercial failures of so many games that adhere to this (ideology over fun, game play, etc.) keeps happening. I understand wanting to inject new ideas into games, but the dismantling of gaming figures (Lara, Cloud, etc.) shows this is not done in good faith. Wanting to change everything to fit your world views, forcibly even, is a mindset that doe not belong in any creative field.

That is true of most places in the world with good literacy. My country India might be the most populous nation but most educated young Indians (especially women) are happy to have no kids or max. one kid. This is clearly shown in the census as most south Indian states (prosperous) have replacement rates well-below 2 with all the ills that follow i.e. influx of uneducated labourers from poorer states with the associated spike in crimes and a rapidly aging population that is one step removed from the demographic bomb situation seen in Japan/some western countries. There is no cure for this as the cost of maternity is very high (lost freedom/stalled career) for women. It does not help when most formal education denigrates homemakers and glorifies the girl-boss lifestyle. This. The best game designers and creators came from unspecialized backgrounds and delivered games/visions based on their unique life experience, thoughts and perspectives. These so-called game design classes are utter fluff. They're useless. If they don't have the imagination or life experience to apply/contribute to begin with, then they won't succeed in making an interesting video game either way.

As a Swede, I'll just chime in that Swedes are on average absolutely not this woke. This is an outlier example, and I would say the majority here don't agree with it (if it has even been accurately translated - I haven't seen the original slides). There's quite a lot of rejection of "wokeness" here too.
But at the same time most of us don't want to strip away all rights of transgender/HBTQ people and pretend they don't exist, like what your new government is doing right now. There's a reasonable middle ground you can strive for.

If you study game design at university, you deserve it.
Go study literature or linguistics or computer science or mathematics or visual arts or industrial design and the like. These will give you solid foundations for a specific field in gaming but also a good foundation for when you realize that working in the game industry is shit and you rather like to earn more than minimum wage while having a normal 9 to 5 day.

Unfortunate goal for Marxism. A lot of history is being rewritten with a clear agenda with poorly researched material; if at all. Sadly leads to a lot of brainwashing.
Those games released at a time when copyright wasn't really a thing and a lot of Japanese VG art and inspirations were drawn from or traced from actual people - see Capcom, Konami's work and ofc SquareSoft.
