Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has (so far) hit an all-time peak Steam CCU of 12,138 users

Pretty sure a lot of people wait for the PS5 version. Further showing Microsoft that exclusivity is no option for them anymore.

And even then, 3 times more than Hellblade 2 ever had.

i think people are taking about big events, physical banners and special trailers around the world.

so, by itself, this game ain't selling 10-15M/ generate the equivalent revenue via new subscribers to GP.

People can argue one way or another. my point is:

GP is not creating a new source of revenue but cannibalizing the primary one.

now then, we can talk about the money around GP.

let's say GP is making 6B in revenue (40M subs at 12usd per month) Phil said that they spent 1Billion to bring content to the service.

now we can say that a AAA game cost 300M(with marketing) and a dev time of 5 years. (60M a year)... the math add up. GP's revenue can afford infinite AAAA games.....But clearly things are not that easy or straight forward.

the biggest issue MS is facing is the lack of growth. and we are going to see how bad really is in the next 2 quarters.

Indeed. I'm playing it on Game Pass since I have GPU stacked for a while yet and my plan has always been that, if I enjoyed it, I'll buy it when it comes to PS5. Especially if MachineGames makes the effort to add PS5 enhancements (e.g. adaptive trigger support).

So far I'm really enjoying it, took my time finding everything in the Vatican, but I'm not going to buy it on Xbox because, at this point, I simply don't trust Xbox as a platform to be around in another 5 or 10 years.

I’m not really sure what’s even impressive for steam numbers since there’s a billion users.

Only games that I think are really comparable to Indiana Jones this year are Sony's PC releases....

Horizon Forbidden West 40k
God of War Ragnarök 35k
Ghost of Tsushima 77k

Of course, those are coming to Steam a while after launch on PS so that does have an effect on popularity, as does Indy's release on Game Pass.

Look at the steam hardware survey, and look at this game's system requirements. That alone is gonna cut the audience down to a fraction.

I also think this game is a bit of a sleeper. Everyone is surprised and delighted that it's different and better than they expected from this IP, but that also tells you people weren't expecting much, and the game is going to have to overcome that with less engaged audiences. So it might build momentum more slowly, which could help it by the time the PS5 rolls around.

Everything is not a subscription nowadays because it makes less money.
when you reach certain size.

Disney+ was losing money at 90+ M subs
Netflix became profitable stable at 93M subs.
spotify has around 200M and it's not profitable.
Max/Discovery became profitable at 90+ M subs.

there is still a lot of uncertainty and skepticism around GP. but who knows... maybe by the end of this year with the help of CoD and Indiana Jones, GP will be able to reach 70M+ subs.

Spotify had a billion in gross profit in one quarter this year, not exactly unprofitable. But other than podcasts - they have to pay out for every single bit of content every time it gets played - so they are in a constant licensing fee battle.
The number of subs required depends on how much you charge and how much you pay for content.
Netflix has roughly 15000 shows/movies across all the countries it is available in (roughly 7000 available in US) while gamepass only has roughly 450 games. Plus MS get what most other subs don't - extra money coming from add-on content (which was roughly 60-70% of Sony's game revenue surpassing the total revenue for game sales).
We don't have a good if it is actually profitable, it's definitely not as profitable as having a number one console like the PS5, but it has the potential to provide a steady stream of revenue and profit - which is more than can be said for Xbox hardware.

The main downside of this to me is that all the sad parasitic hate farmers on YouTube who were subdued and laughed off by the game's sterling critical reception will now feel renewed by the Steam results, and a fresh wave of insufferable videos to be viewed by millions will be being editing as we speak.
People play games just to broke them and post cringe clickbait videos or to hate ob them on reddit. This is the industry and gaming community now.

so, this is the first year spotify reached profitability?...🤯

yeah. but sometimes I wonder if people only have short memory.

The sole reason Xbox is putting games on PlayStation is because they didn't grow. (They framed it as an industry problem tho)

Sarah Bond disaster interview was also very telling.

in the last financial report, their gaming revenue would have declined by 4% without ABK. So, hardware, GP, and game sales (both first-party and third-party) didn't perform.

About 15-20% of the top GPUs have no ray tracing based on my counts. That doesn't bring it down to a fraction, but it does remove a good chunk.

I think 2025 is going to make clear if this shit is going to work or not.
Last numbers we know stated it was at 34M subs, but that was an inflated number due to XBL conversions. Actual number was closer to 25M and it was already stagnant, if not at a slight decline.

MS hoped to get like 5M new subs with COD, but Piscatella recently implied that it didn't have much effect (at least afaik).

If COD didnt have much effect, Indy definitely won't.
Besides, if GP grew more than double from what MS shared the last time, we would already have heard all about it, because they desperately need all the positive PR they can get.

we all know that. i was trying to be a little nice.

if we use 5M New Subscribers to Game Pass a year, we are looking at 10 to 15 years of griding until GP reaches the mythical 100M subs....that shit ain't happening and MS is not going to have patience to follow through.

but who knows....
maybe Xbox is finally achieving consistency

I've seen that thread.
Out of all those games, only COD would have any pull and it was a dud when it comes to attracting new subs.

MS really made the wrong gamble with the "netflix of gaming".

But eh, weirder things have happened, I guess.

It wasn't my style of game either - But I'm enjoying the shit out of it right now. It's a surprisingly well-crafted experience. It's even exceptionally good at times, providing a rare sense of near-excitement in this ice-cold cynical soul of mine.
The trailer looked boring as fuck and this game looks like it has a lot of forced walking and filler. I would rather play their earlier games like Wolfenstein II The New Colossus.

Yup, that's exactly to a t what I used to think as well, which is why I sort of "refused" to ackmowledge its presence. But in the end it's a pretty damn good game well worthy of a place in Machinegames' list of best.

Interesting - tempted to check out the game on GP. Does the game have a lot of these 'forced walking' sections? This is a trend which I fucking despise in video games. Sony first party games are chock full of them.
