We've had some quality meme threads the last couple of years, and some quality entries so let's close out the year with another epic meme thread!

People who lash out at others for cracking jokes are _______

There sure are a lot of "jokes" directed at this particular character design under the guise that "it's just a joke brah, cAn'T yOU tAkE a jOkE???"

Respectfully, what's so upsetting about a bald woman? Is her design really that offensive to 70% of this forum that we need dedicated threads jeering at it?

Naughty Dog is entitled to design their characters however they want–don't buy if it's not your thing. 🤷‍♂️

If this is to be my last post for disagreeing with the mob, welp it was a good run. Love y'all.

It's a computer game, not a cancer patient.

If this is another game that's going to preach to me with all the subtlety of a JCB, I'll still play it. But I'll skip every single cutscene. In a Naughty Dog game. On PC.

I'm not sure if I could be any more offensive.

To answer that would be akin to treating you like a fool that hasn't been paying attention to anything happening in gaming and media in general over the last ten years

I know You're not a fool, so you already know.

I'm talking about this game specifically though? (i thought that was obvious)

Because it's obviously another attempt to create a yet another cringe strong female character with an emotionally brooding, generally unpleasant personality.

According to these devs, woman who are good looking are too stereotypical but the only way for a woman to be strong, is when they are acting masculine and has been through some sort of trauma which is actually a stereotype on its own.

It could be coincidence yes but:
1)It's Neil Druckmann, he has already proudly said he likes to insert his personal politics in games.
2) According to him, good looking women in games are mysoginistic which is utter BS.
3) Naughty Dog shut down the comments, the second the trailer was released. Meaning they knew there was gonna be backlash.
4) I have yet to find a trailer on YT where there are more likes than dislikes so it's obvious the majority of gamers has a bad feeling about it.

The only reason this game would do well, is because it's Naughty Dog. These personal politics only sell well when it Piggy Backs on an already successful franchise. When done from scratch (Concord, Dustborn) it always bombs. This tells you all you need to know.

And with regards to the jokes about the character.
If they ruin my favorite hobby with personal politics they can accept the fact that we're gonna make jokes about it.
I game to escape reality now and then, not to be preached about somebody's personal politics.

That's exactly my point, Morris–it's just a character in a video game.

Do we really need a fourth thread on this? Do we all need to collectively get together and cry and p*ss ourselves because Naughty Dog created a design we don't like?

Threads like this are bound to raise the temperature of the room even further, but it's hard to imagine that much of this discourse is in good faith.

I appreciate you sharing your perspective here Eimran, but devil's advocate: are you sure you're not looking for a political agenda where there isn't one?

You described the protagonist as a "cringe strong female character who has been some sort of trauma", but where's the evidence of that? Did the opening shot of the trailer have her crying in the shower / listening to My Chemical Romance / wiping away black eyeliner and I missed it? Where's the evidence that there's any political agenda going on ... at all?

Is it her tattoos? Her hair? Her skin color? Is any of this really a sign that this game is being written with some evil liberal agenda in mind? That they've got beef with canonical depictions of beauty in western society? Is it the fact that Neil Druckmann is attached to it that there has to be some deeper hate going on? We've seen a grand total of like 3 characters so far, and being totally honest with you–I just don't see it.

Quoting Dawkins here: 'by all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out.'

In the very first scene where she is shaving you see some huge scars on the back of her head indicating she had some sort of physical and probably mental trauma

I've been gaming for almost 30 years. And I have no problem with politics in games (Metal Gear Solid is my favorite franchise). It's the 'personal' aspect that I, and judging by the last years many other gamers, have a problem with.

Does it need to be a smoking hot babe everytime. Not to me. But you can keep a strong female character without going for the stereotypical Butch attitude masculine behavior female protagonists.
Keep women feminine. They don't realize by doing what they're doing the last year, the opposite effect is created.

Jade is a perfect example. She didn't look like a playboy model but stil had a feminine look and personality and was still loved by many

Hair is makeup?

I've been married for well over a decade now. I'm still yet to experience waking up one day and my wife suddenly surprising me by being clean shaven.
No, but pretty much everything on the top image is.

Dont want to derail the thread further or anything, cause its for memes. But I just wanted to point that out cause every screen that people have been using to show that ND "made her model ugly" was comparing her with makeup and etc. in real life against the character from the game just waking up

What would you actually do though if she did? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I think I'd go out, for the week, at least.

Considering how much she treasures and cares for her hair, it would mean she's lost her mind.

So serious questions would need to be asked.

That's not what the meme is saying though. You're the one making it in to something else entirely, while also suggesting that those who find humour in it must be inexperienced with women. Believe it or not, there are a ton of women out there who embrace their femininity and the things that go along with that.

Or she was just in a rush whilst bathing and accidentally cut the back of her head with a razor while shaving. I've cut the back of my head pretty badly shaving before and I had to warn my girlfriend before she walked in, that it wasn't a suicide attempt. Blood was everywhere it happens sometimes.
