Wonder if apple maps will be coming to the web. It would be nice to mark places on the computer and then see them on the phone.

That's exactly what I'm thinking as well. Far too much work went into that mapping stuff to only use it on iOS devices.

Siri on iPad is kinda neat. That's my only iOS device, so I'm looking forward to fucking around with it a little.

The rest of this seems very phone-focused, though. I don't know what I'd really use out of it.

Bloodborne is shit
Iphone's are getting turn by turn?

That was the one feature I couldn't leave Android for.

Ahhhhh shit

Uh.. sorry. Did they actually use the Turn-by-Turn navigation as actual bullet point high light?
Speaking as a smug Android user, IOS never had that before, really?

Not in the Maps app, no. It was available through 3rd party apps though.

Strange comment is strange.

Far too much work went into it for it to only be used on some of the most profitable devices in the history of devices?

Apple has managed to almost entirely ignore "the web", and become the most profitable tech company in the post-web world. I don't see them jumping onto that bandwagon w/o creating a major advertising company out of it, ala Google AdSense.

Mapping was one significant advantage Android had over iOS. In fact, probably the most significant advantage that didn't boil down to a preference one way or the other--ie widgets.

With iOS6, Apple is both fixing that gulf (by implementing the features Android has had for a while), making it easier for them to iterate on mapping later (by moving to their own technologies rather than being limited by Google), and introduced a few unique tweaks that might make Apple's implementation the best.

So, looking at this objectively, you don't understand why that would be a bullet point?

Does ios nav have walk, bus or train navigation?

The previous application did, and it'd be a pretty huge step back if this one didn't.

Either they need a desktop app or something. Sometimes you want to have stuff queued up on the desktop for in the car or later in the day.

Yes the reach is far with the phone alone. For functionality reasons it would be nice to have the mapping support elsewhere. Id rather use apple maps everywhere than use google maps on my desktop and apple maps on my phone.

really considering buying the dev license to try this out on my ipad (and maybe iphone, but it's my only phone so i'd be scared of it bugging out too much).

Honestly, besides turn by turn, which we should have had 2-3 years ago, this is a pretty lame update. The iPhone 5 better be an amazing upgrade.

I like the Chinese support improvements. My parents are going to benefit from that quite a bit.

On the other hand, one would assume that they would announce features that their competition lacked, showed features that were only available on the iPhone, or pretty much show how this is a monumental step forward apart from the fact that Apple gets more ad revenue/private data by implementing their own maps application.

They have skirted even answering whether or not it maintains the features the previous application had.

3D mapping looks great. Is it confirmed to not have street view though? I feel like that's infinitely more useful.

Good Job Bob, don't forget to make it possible for people to sign up more than one device (cuz I'm gonna get both my iPhone 4S and my iPad 3 on this shit).
