Is a watch jewelry?

Yes. If you already have a convenient clock on your phone, in your pocket... getting an additional clock/watch to wear on your wrist means you probably want attention.

That's pretty much how I feel about it nowadays. There are niche cases where a watch as a practical tool is still important, but I would bet that for the vast majority of people who still wear timepieces, they are jewelry.

A buddy of mine works in the jewelry industry got me a good deal, considering there's only 25 pieces in existence.

Nice, congrats! I was stunned by the size of these watches, 49mm is mighty big.

I really like how Breitling is evolving, they have some very nice pieces.

I have a Heuer Monaco as my going out watch, and a Tudor NF as my daily beater, the Tudor isn't jewellery, it's a tool, it's not flashy, it's just a fairly plain St St 3 hander, I am not convinced the Monaco is either, because I brought it because of the history behind it, not just because it looks good..

Great choices!

The thing is most people do not give a damn and do not notice no matter the watch you wear - this is a conversation piece only if the person you are speaking with is also into watches.

I guess an expensive watch form a well known brand might be. Though I still wouldn't put it on the same tier as say a ring or necklace since it still has a more practical use
But I'd say something like a $15 Casio watch is more like a tool.

I do like wearing watches though. I'm just used to it and it's easier than checking your phone.
Have a Tissot, it's way more expensive than what I'd personally spend on a watch, but I got it as a present and I really like it.

Pretty much this. It depends on what the watch is made of. If it's gold or if it has some sort of valuables on it (gems, diamonds, etc.), it's considered jewelry.
My Casio calculator watch is obviously not jewelry.

I think it depends on what is in the watch. TAG Heuer watches use sapphire, some watches have diamonds in them. I think if it has a precious gem involved it is jewelry. If no gems involved then it is not.

Of course it is. For me it is the most important. I want to buy a new watch that looks expensive but I don't want to pay that much.

Look into preowned or new with box and papers. Depending on the brand you can get 30-40% off on new watches e.g. Hublot and IWC.
If you want best bang for the buck try Nonos or Longines.

What’s your budget?

I don't want to grab my phone when i want to know the time. Spending enough time behind screens...
Started to wear my 20 year old Seiko a couple of weeks ago again...

Pretty much any mechanical watch (no battery, just gears and such) is jewelry, no matter how "toolish" it is.

Most digital watches are not jewelry IMHO, other than the dainty fashion watches for women, because they typically don't have a high level of refinement or adornment, and the quartz movement inside is gonna be condemned to the scrap heap in a decade or two. Some can argue differently, but thats my opinion.

Smartwatches, pure tools, no fashion there whatsoever even if you bling it out.

Considering everything digital these days will provide the time, from your TV to like the coffee machine in the office.

I would say for today, a watch is definitely jewelry. It's a fashion accessory, when you could quickly pull out your phone to serve the same purpose.

It can be both i think, depending on what the watch is made out of and the price. i stopped wearing watches 2 decades ago and 2 years tried to go back to wearing one, and it didn't work, i keep forgetting to put it on lol, so i gave up.

It's always been jewelry from the get go in some sense.

More of a status symbol in these times.

Omg a clock on my wrist

I think a nice watch looks absolutely great on most people. I started wearing one about 5 years ago and I don't leave the house without it. Arm feels naked when I do. And I actually vastly prefer looking on my watch to tell the time. Personally I don't like clinging to my smartphone all day. I put it in my backpack whenever I can.

It sure does.

I can see both sides.

I bought an old skool digital casio some years ago. Love the look.

Stopped wearing it for some reason.

Sorry for the offtopic

As long as you like the look than that's the most important. I also hate people who rock that shit like a status symbol.

I picked up two watches when I went to Jamaica:

- a $50 fossil that I haven't taken off in years. It's mostly black with subtle hints of matte gold. I've never been able to find anything like it ever again and I absolutely love it.

- a $2000 Tag Heuer that I only bought cause it's the same piece that Bryan Cranston wore in this scene. other than that i think it's the most ugly piece ever and I can consider myself extremely lucky that it's now worth almost triple of what I bought it for :messenger_loudly_crying:

Yes, a watch can definitely be considered jewelry. It's not just about telling time; it's also a fashion statement and can be a key part of your outfit. Watches, especially those with unique designs or precious materials, add a lot of style and can even showcase your personality.

Personally, I love wearing watches as accessories. I find that they elevate my look and add a touch of sophistication. I'm more into replica watches because they offer the same great style without the hefty price tag. I buy mine from perfectreplicawatches.is; the quality is impressive, and they look almost identical to the originals.

I also wanted to buy such type of watch for my woman, but instead she chose jewelry with lab grown diamonds i guess not everybody have the same tastes as i do. But watches for me are kinda precious thing you know
Yeah i can agree on that. And many people prefer to wear watches to look good and estetically this is an interesting choice. But practically, well i guess we have phones, so we dn't need any watches to pay attention to time
