This book has caught my attention due to it's premise

Basically it's an alternate reality if the Nazi's won the war, and it's looked to be accurate in the sense that it follows the plans that Hitler had laid out, when they won the war. Also the Holocaust is actually covered up and clues to it start to appear when this book is set in the 1960's

I like alternate reality stuff.

It basically traces the history and evolution of the I Ching, and talks about its origin as an epic about real events before it became used as a fortune telling device.

Käpt'n Blaubär (Captain Bluebear) was originally the main character from a tv show for children, who told his grandchildren Baron Munchhausen-like stories.
This book mainly consists of such (new) stories, I guess you can compare the style to Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams.

The subject is incredibly interesting but I found this particular book somewhat dry. It's on my pile of "To read" except that I have read some of it but just didn't finish it. If you just want a quick book to read, I'd recommend Mean Genes which can be read in a weekend if there is casual interest.

I am currently reading "Two Hours to Doom" - Peter Bryant - The book is called 'Red Alert' in the United States and was the original inspiration for Kubricks "Dr Strangelove". The book is no longer available hence no picture, but it is available with the Dr Stranglove special edition DVD. Its a fascinating read but it doesnt contain the Dr Strangelove character or any of the humor from the film. Highly recommended

Also reading Casino Royale in preperation for the new Bond Movie. I've never read Iain Flemmings work before but it looks great so far

I finished "A Song of Ice and Fire: Storm of Swords" the day before yesterday. Awesome, AWESOME book. "A Feast for Crows" should arrive monday or tuesday.

Finally getting into King's Dark Tower series, I'm about halfway through The Drawing of the Three. I'm a completist at heart so I'm going to finish the series, but Stephen King does nothing for me. So far I've read Eyes of the Dragon, Talisman, and Insomnia; they're all interesting stories but they are ultra detailed throughout the book and then the ending is like two pages...leaves me empty.

i just finished that book a week ago and i'm still amazed as to it's style. that novel is a "perfect book" which you encounter just once in a while. i was always told by friends to "read that book you idiot". finally i picked it up and finished it in two days. i actually had to curb my reading speed so that i wouldn't finish it on one day and "waste" it. i wanted the story to unfold a bit slower.

a real page turner, recommended!


btw: the movie is on it's way! although i still don't know if a movie can really stand up to the style of the book *sniff sniff*

i guess it's a nice book. not very sophisticated at all but a nice book just to let your mind wander off. but i'm getting a bit sick of all those "new-age-music-my girl just ran off-damn i'm screwed and getting old"-books. at least he mentions "the clash" and the "sex pistols" once in a while.

Just started Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami. Probably my favourite writer at the moment.

And I recently finished The People of Paper by Salvador Plascencia. The coolest meta-fiction I've read. I bet Tristram Shandy was a major inspiration.

Recently I've been reading "On A Clear Day You Can See General Motors" by John Z. De Lorean. It's about the corruption, waste, etc. inside GM and the auto industry in general. It was written in the mid 70's, but it's amazing how little some things have changed.

I never heard of Reading Week. What timing. I finished FFIV advance not too long ago and now I've dropped all of my handhelds (GBA, DS, PSP) in order to get back into some books I've been neglecting. I've already finished Memories of Ice (Malazan series #3), Lord of Chaos (Wheel of Time series 6), and now almost done with Crown of Swords (Wheel of Time series 7).

The Malazan book was new, but all save the newest Wheel of Time book, Knife of Dreams (#11) are repeats for me. I'm in the habit of rereading the entire WoT series before whenever a new book comes out, and only got halfway through the reread of 1-10 before I got distracted. Now I'm swooping in for the kill! I won't give up until books 8, 9, 10, and finally 11 are behind me!

I always love these threads. I just really started reading within the last year or two and I have no idea what's "good", but these topics always give me ideas.

Terry Lee, like you I enjoyed the Davinci Code and several other Dan Brown books. I know it's unpopular to like Brown around here, but I find his style to be well paced and the material to be interesting enough to keep me hooked.

I picked up The Last Templar yesterday and have only finished the first 30 pages or so, and the only similarity I'm finding to Dan Brown's books thus far are the quick chapters. I still have many pages to go though, and if I finish before you decide to buy, I'll give a more fleshed out review (if someone else hasn't already by that time).
