Jeff Grubb: FairGame$ has been delayed internally to 2026

On episode 385 of Game Mess, Industry vet Jeff Grub and his Co Host Mike were speaking about the recent State of Play. Their chat had asked Jeff about Fairgame$ and his response was “No Fairgame$ this year. Fairgame$ as far as I’m aware has been pushed to 2026”. This gives us some answers as to why the game did not show up in the recent State of Play.

It may just need more time in the oven. It shines light on the fact that next year will be a much bigger year from PlayStation studios. The titles slated for 2026 are Wolverine from Insomniac, the newly announced Saros from Housemarque, Marathon from Bungie and now Fairgame$ from Haven. This brings the number to at least four first party titles shipped in one year.

Nah, something tells me this one is far enough along that they'll want to push it out.

But if they learnt anything from the Concord debacle, they would be smart to make it a free to play game.
The smart thing to do would be to immediately write it off.

It’s like when you are at the poker table, money in the pot is no longer yours. Need to know when to hold them and need to know when to fold them. 😉

But Sony is going to blow another couple hundred $mil before finally learning that lesson.

Starting a studio from scratch to releasing a game doesn't happen in less than 5 years. This one was always 2026 or later.

Lol at the people who think this is cancelled.
Yeah, I don't think the studio began development until 2022. If anything, that trailer in 2023 was as much of an ad to recruit people to join the project than anything

Marathon being pushed 2026 would a much bigger surprise. Especially, if Playstation is reportedly holding a SOP in April to highlight it

That's actually great news.

You have to stop and consider how many moving parts go on here.

I firmly believe that most live service games should have a beta 6 or so months before release. I saw them put out a survey about this game and they're probably retooling a lot of things. Doesn't make sense to show this game too early before it gets a full makeover and should probably consider a rebranding.

The game hasn't been in development that long. The studio was founded in 2001 and Sony bought them in 2023. The game has been in development at most 4 years, a 2026 release isn't a bad thing.

I see think there is potential here if you make it kind of like a AAA PayDay meets Watch Dogs. Maybe throw in some Deus Ex in there too.

You can see that the staff at Haven Studios has really ramped up. Their linkedin employee count is up to 248 people. At least 43 worked at Eidos presumably Eidos-Montreal, and 147 came from ubisoft (again presumably Montreal). They've more than doubled in size in the last two years.

I can totally see what JR and Sony are trying to accomplish with this studio. You look at the games that have been produced by Eidos Montreal and Ubisoft Montreal and there's a lot of pedigree there.

When Ubisoft goes under, there could be a huge opportunity for Haven to become a premier studio by picking up some of the employees.

I mean Concord had a 2 week free trail before release and hardly anyone played it. This game got shit on just as hard and because of that its pretty much DOA.

Hyenas! Which actually lost them more money than the number that was reported publicly.

Delaying this game to 2026 is smart. It gives Sony time to save more money from strong console sales so that they have more money to lose when this launches.
Wouldn't it be smarter for Sony to cancel Fairgames altogether if they think it will lose them money? They're looking at another year of development costs and to what end?

Wasn't the 'eat the rich' game?

lmao
Ya.

A bunch of Gen Z'ers with guns and tech gear break into mansions to still their money and they get away in a van.

They'll probably change it to robbing drug cartels or terrorists because simply robbing rich people wont cut it these days with republicans winning politics across many countries lately.

The last game I ever want to play on PlayStation is Fairgame$. You can small the millions they’ve already spent on it. Looks like crap imo

Couldn’t you also say if they learned anything from hell divers 2 it will be $40?

This.

Lot's of people just aren't sophisticated enough to understand how this all works.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

lol, of course - I’m just clowning around as usual.

There’s no chance this thing has a positive return, but I suspect management on the studios side is in a situation where it looks really bad if they gut literally the entire GaaS strategy, so they’re hanging onto this and Marathon and praying for a miracle.

In a way, it kind of sucks because they have to learn this hard lesson several times over the course of many years.
