Nice!. As far as I know this is generally considered to be one of te best part in the manga, right? Looking forward to it.

And yeah part 6 is the first one I kinda lost interest in and didn't finish. I didn't find the fights or the characters (both the good and evil ones) as compelling as previous seasons.

Hell yeah! My favorite Jojo arc in the manga, so I hope they can do it justice.

had some flaws, but I liked part 6.
My least favorite was part 5, I was bored during that.

I know nothing about the Steel Ball run, so looking forward to being 100% surprised by everything.

Heard this was in the works and getting a reveal soon but it's good to have official confirmation. Wonder how they're dealing with the horseback riding animation since that's supposed to be prohibitively difficult.

The binge dropping killing the momentum for the series.
This was the biggest problem for the last part. There was no more weekly hype, no more 'JoJo hour', etc. They removed the social aspect behind the show.

I have already accepted the potential scenario that they are going to do the same with SBR.

This is great news regardless.

I got filtered at Josuke and the 'diamond' arc, so unless this is like earlier seasons, I'll probably pass.

Doubt anything will beat the Battle Tendancy/Stardust Crusaders stuff for me personally. Joseph Joestar remains the best in my opinion.

Diamond arc is my least favorite. Italy arc after that is a lot of fun.

If they do it like WIT and its CG for distance shots everything else HAS to be very good to let it be acceptable. David Pro is doing Fire Force fuck knows what else they have in the works, I doubt they'll do Undead Unluck again it flopped.

near near
Part 1 and Part 2 are shorter, and there's a OVA version of Part 3 from 1994 and 2000 that are condensed well with high quality animation and good storytelling. The OVAs, especially the 1994 ones, are iconic. TV Part 1 + TV Part 2 + OVA Part 3 make for a good entry point into the JoJo universe without a heavy duty time investment.

Man I was powering through JoJo and enjoyed it. The arc in Japan I'm guessing is diamond? can't remember. I enjoyed it but was a let down after the one before. Felt like it was missing alot of the humour.
i think it deflated me before the Italian arc. I watched one episode and just stopped.

So I'm understanding right, TV Part 1 + TV Part 2 covers Phantom Blood & Battle Tendency (26 episodes) and OVA Part 3 covers Stardust Crusaders (13 episodes)? I'd save having to watch 35 episodes or so? Sounds much easier to consume.

Yup. The OVAs are my preferred way of doing Stardust Crusaders. Can always check out the TV version later for the full, manga-accurate story with all the battles.

I'll watch your way then. I've always been put off by the daunting task of watching all those episodes, but this seems like a reasonable shortcut. (y)

Yeah, parts 2 and 3 are by far my favorite as well. Still, any JoJo is a good time in my eyes, so I'm very excited for this next production. Don't have a clue what happens in SBR but it seems generally well-regarded.

More JoJo let's GO!

And lol getting filtered at Part 4.

Also I hate to disagree with the bossman but the full Stardust Crusaders anime is worth watching first. The OVA is great but has a different tone compared to the rest of the series done by David Production ( I say this as someone who watched the old OVA before the Part 3 anime).

I was going to say, this is the first time I've heard ANY JoJo fan recommend the OVAs first over the full seasons. I guess if someone is flat out not willing to give the series a watch if they have to go through the seasons, it's better than nothing, but everyone I've ever talked to say the OVAs are a nice thing that exists but ultimately the inferior adaptation compared to the full seasons.

Talk to more people then.

If anime JoJo has a main fault it's how it drowns itself in moment-to-moment expository dialogue carried over from the manga. Five minutes of stopping to explain after each action. The Stardust Crusaders OVAs tailored the story to an anime format rather than going panel by panel. Can't beat the climactic battles in the OVA.

Dio doesn't WRYYYYYYY in the OVA. The Jojo fanbase prior to the 2012 anime kind of felt indifferent to the OVA but I think as the new one came out and covered Part 3 it got appreciated more.

I love the PS2 Part V voice cast and the music.

Talked to plenty, thanks, not saying your opinion isn't as valid as anyone else's, but it's not one I hear anyone else say. Even a friend of mine who greatly prefers older anime admits that the actual seasons are the proper adaptation while the OVAs were enjoyable for their time since it's mostly all the JoJo fans had pre-2010's anime-wise but now there's no real reason to go back to them aside from the animation.

Mind you, I'm talking about people who are actually open-minded about all eras of anime (you don't have this issue as you watch plenty of old and new anime IIRC), and not automatically set in their mind that just about any anime of one era is always superior to a show from another (as there are even a few others in this forum who fit that bill). The one friend of mine has a preference for older anime, but he doesn't automatically dismiss all newer shows.

Now, even if I personally find generalizations like dismissing entire eras of media like that close-minded, people are still entitled to such a stance and I respect that, BUT we can't pretend that doesn't mean their opinion holds more inherent bias than others when discussing said media. So if someone says they prefer the OVAs over the series but also said someone automatically thinks very little of modern anime (with it varying how widespread their definition of "modern" starches), well, that's nice, but that's as unbiased a take as asking a vegan which is better between a salad bar and a steakhouse, or a Star Trek fan who hates Star Wars which is the better sci-fi film, Wrath of Khan or Empire Strikes Back.

Also everyone I've talked to agrees that the climax of Part 3 hits way harder when watching the full season. It truly feels like the conclusion to a long journey for our heroes compared to the much shorter run time of the OVAs. I guess the OVAs are more for those focused primarily on the animation, and the series for those focused primarily on fully connecting with the characters.

To be clear, most of these people I've talked to never said to NOT watch the OVAs ever, they just find watching the series a more fulfilling experience while the OVAs as a nice "dessert" one can enjoy sometime later.

So excited I have read up until part 8 and can say part 7 is definitely my favorite. Very different very bizarre more so than the other parts before this, you have a smaller main cast basically only 2 people Johnny and Gyro, Gyro being my favorite Jojo bro. Some of the funnest stand abilities are in this part and I love the villain and his stand D4C, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

Yep, for me jojo peaked with season 2 and 3.

And yeah joseph was the best protagonist.

The OVAs have been around for decades before DP's adaptation, zoomer

90's OVA is Jojo best content (including the manga, sorry Araki).

But if you like Jojo (tv show) there's no point in skipping Stardust Crusaders season, there's a sense of adventure that the OVAs (even including the 00's) are unable to capture because they skip way too much.
