Layoffs where? IGN, Chris Roper and some more

Both Chris Roper and Garnett Lee has twittered about some layoffs somewhere. I don't know where.
Somebody know anything more about this?

so giving out 9s and 10s to bigger titles didn't helped IGN that much finacially.

sad to see good people getting affected by this.
 
Bet you half of GAF admit to secretly loving IGN now :lol

Still, sucks for those guys, at least with IGN on their CV they should be alright.

So is this like a personal victory for you? Since they badmouthed Nintendo? It seems kind of shitty hoping for someone to be fired when you know they are cutting staff.
 
Getting a feeling from some tweets it could be whole IGN network, so Gamespy, TeamXbox etc. could also be affected :/
 
wow, that sucks. I liked Roper aswell.

Wouldnt have thought IGN had to have layoffs, arnt they the biggest gaming related website out there?
 
What the playstation team? They were the only good part of IGN left. That would be terrible for the former 1up people if they were laid off again as well in just over a year......
 
Can't say I'm surprised.

If you really look at their how big their staff was and their other properties (Gamespy, Teamxbox,etc.) it really seemed like they were over-staffed.

Still, sucks that people are losing their jobs. I enjoyed the TRL, Beyond and Gamescoop podcasts very much.

EDIT: I think Arthur Gies (TeamXbox/Rebel FM) might be gone. I think.

Now that really would suck...

I think he was talking about how there are nearly weekly threads, with many people talking about how much IGN sucks and that they should be banned from NeoGAF..yet, when this kind of situations come in is like "Noo..I always loved IGN"...

Two months ago (roughly) they got rid of silo'd teams and went with an interest based approach to reviews. Without those predetermined assignments I imagine redundancy became clear pretty damn quick.

edit: but if this is just one dude getting shitcanned, maybe they haven't realized the inefficiencies quite yet.

I'm still saying IGN suck, the articles they write are garbage and they can't review a game for shit, but I'm not going to rejoice in someone getting fired(unless I don't like them).

Seriously though, sucks for anyone laid off. Don't really visit IGN much anymore (get all my news from GAF), but it's never good to hear about things like this.
 
Didn't the eic of the entire site recently leave to be a community manager at a Sony developer? Zipper I think. Seemed like a huge step down at the time, but maybe the writing was on the wall.
