I got SSX with my launch PS2. A bunch of us played it to death. We then decided to take up snowboarding in real life. Great times!Remember when snowboarding games were a thing? Damn! I'm old!

Same! And remember when they were fun? Not like that slop STEEP that, while looking pretty good, plays like shit. For some reason Ubisoft thought it was a good idea to put annoying ass glaciers on every mountain in that game so you just constantly crash.Remember when snowboarding games were a thing? Damn! On the flip side, that game Shredders is pretty sick. You can pull off some awesome tricks and it actually uses real board physics.
But man, SSX3 was unbelievable. I wish games had that much charm these days.
Dudeeee Burnout Revenge. Holy shit. So good. Honestly if I just boot that up on a CRT it'll still basically look like the quality of a PS3 game.Right? SSX Tricky and 3 are legit amazing, I miss those days. An SSX Tricky remaster (and Burnout Revenge) seems like easy money for EA but they hate us.
Your last point was the same issue with the original. Seems the developers didn’t learn as I deleted the original game within 10 minutes due to the absolutely awful camera and not being able to see where you’re going. Shame.Anyone playing this? I tried it when it popped up on Game Pass, and deleted it in a rage after 30 minutes. Might reinstall at a later date, but life is too short to play frustrating games.
Good points:
- It’s nicer looking than the mountain bike version, with the trails in the snow and the depth of field effect.
- Controls are pretty good. Digging into the snow to make tight turns works well.
Negatives:
- Excessive loading times on Series X.
- Although it looks simplistic, the Xbox can’t run it at 4k on the default settings without stuttering like crazy. There’s a performance mode to turn off some of the effects, or you can play it at 1080p.
- Shitty camera that often gives a poor view of the route ahead. The game moves fast but when you can’t see where you’re going, or even lose sight of your character completely, it’s extremely annoying.
Yeah, there's a good reason most racing games put the camera directly behind the character.Your last point was the same issue with the original. I wish! That game was great. A modern Snowboard Kids with graphics like this would be cool. But is it better than Snowboard Kids?
Yes. To remind myself of why I deleted the original game in the first place, I just downloaded this new release. The developers really did not learn anything at all. There’s no fun in having your skier careening toward the camera, and it’s just no fun to play well without committing each track to memory. Deleted after 10 minutes. Shame, as it’s a really pretty game.Yeah, there's a good reason most racing games put the camera directly behind the character.
I think the developers should add a Forza-style racing line to show the default route down the mountain. Just a tint in the snow would be really helpful. As it stands, I didn't find the trial and error approach to pathfinding much fun, especially when you have to listen to audible warnings as your gold/silver/bronze targets slip away.
If you're trying scratch that Skiing/Snowboarding itch try Ubisoft's Riders Republic (oh and it's FREE!)
