Lords of the Fallen Gets Final 1.5 Update, Publisher Confirms Plans for ‘Next Installments’ in Franchise

Lords of the Fallen developer Hexworks has announced the release of update 1.5, its “final milestone” for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S soulslike, as publisher CI Games turns its attention to future games in the franchise.

The Master of Fate update adds a modifier system that turns Lords of the Fallen into a roguelite, Hexworks said.

Here’s the official blurb on the Master of Fate update:

“Master of Fate imbues power directly into players’ hands, allowing them to fully customize their game experience. The modifier system, while not for the fainthearted, can even be enabled from the very first playthrough of Lords of the Fallen, throwing down the gauntlet to action-RPG veterans new to the game. Among the seven different modifiers available to players are randomized enemy spawns and loot drops, together with an Ironman mode; with these three modifiers enabled, Lords of the Fallen effectively becomes a roguelite.”

I’ve been thinking of jumping in based on the visuals alone. I need a nimble but brutal class / build. Any suggestions so I can hit the ground running?

This game looks better and better for every update. The modifiers turning NG+ into a new and randomized experience is a cool addition. I hope this inspires From Software to make something with their NG+, I've always been disappointed with the fact that they never evolved their ideas of NG+ from Dark Souls 2.

Put 100 hours into it at launch. Will give it another playthrough at some point when there's finally a lull from the stream of great game releases this year.

I played it on a mid-range PC and i don't recall having any performance issues. (12700k, 32 ram, 3080 10gb)

It's actually my favourite souls game ever, loved the dual world idea 🙌

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
How's the game running on console these days? I recall it was pretty hitchy at launch.

So this is the last update, it sounds like? I don't ever play games near-ish launch so don't generally have to worry about half-fimished games.

Game got a lot of flak but I really liked it nonetheless. It's a nice final update but not exactly enough to make me reinstall after platinuming it over 150 hours. Also the only soulslike of recent where I wasn't absolutely shit at PvP so half of that was multiplayer. Looking forward to the sequel.

I started this yesterday and spent 2 hours on the first Pieta boss fight. I managed to summon someone who had range attacks that melted the boss.

Bartski Bartski give me tips.

I love how it looks and it’s super miserable and dark - which is totally my thing so I’ll go on. I’m just super intimidated by these bosses.

Even without Bartski help I’ve made good progress with this BUT something extraordinary happened.

Yesterday I was playing online with this guy that started to drop high levels of xp. He was dropping 1000 here 1000 there. And then dropped a massive 700K and I used that to completely break the game. I couldn’t help it. I’m at 30+ on all stats.

He was playing on Xbox so I’m not sure how he managed to break the game with all the currency.

Graphics and atmosphere is pretty on point. Game deserves more love.

I once lost 350K XP cuz of the bug in the game, but one dude from Steam forums helped me out and now we are friends.

Have you tought about going into NG+? After 50+ stats don't matter, there's no way for you to up the DMG for weapons and there's no new (or even the same but more powerful) runes for NG+.

This game my dudes keeps getting better and better and better.

If you eventually play this, do it as blindly as possible since part of the pleasure is figuring out where to go and what’s available. I ended up at this castle that’s so intricate with the shortcuts that it reminded me of boletaria which to me is one of the best levels ever designed.

Lords of the Fallen deserves more love. Game is an excellent rip off.

I picked it up last night as well as Sand Land, bouncing between the two to see what grabs me. Sand Land is winning.

Not sure how I feel about the lamp aspect. I don't like that blocking deals wither damage. Bloodborne rally system is fun, incorporating that with the shield is bad game design IMO. I'm just gonna dodge everything, why take the risk with blocking? Too early to tell if this game will grab me but it's making me wary so far. It's relatively easy so far which is nice though.

Sounds fantastic, landing on game pass in a few days. Should be done with HB2 by then.

Going from one UE5 showpiece to another.

Keep at it. And keep levelling up. The game starts to really shine with level design mid-game. Levels become darker and nastier. Atmosphere gets super thick. It’s not an easy game to understand but eventually the puzzle pieces fall into place and it’s a joy.

I’m having a tremendous good time with the more closed environments and labyrinths. Open areas, not so much.

Waiting for the game pass release but damn too many games in my backlog. Plus elden ring dlc around the corner.. I hope it sticks around a bit on game pass.

Unless it's R*, games usually stay for a minimum of 1 to 2 years.

This game is so effing dumb with some of their design choices.

Apparently you can get invaded playing solo? I haven't seen anything that indicates a Demon's Souls style invade system. At least with that game you know what you're getting into.

Some OP build guy comes into the game and kills me. Didn't lose progress because I'm exploring the early areas but WTF kind of mechanic is that? Dude casts a giant AOE spell, didn't even bother trying to fight him.

WTF is this?

This game deserves a lot more love that it actually has. The game's pretty solid and super fun.

The art direction is phenomenal, and the graphics are superb.

Do yourself a favor and buy it, you won't regret it, specially if you're a Souls fan.

Agreed .. having more fun than I had with Elden Ring... is much more of a tight dark souls experience than ER... there are sone questionable choices and the bosses are a little easy ... but its a good souls like game to fill the void. Heard that ng+ is much more difficult.. so I hope.

Bro I think I'm getting way too many notifications here, only now I've seen your @

Anyway, happy you like it! Looks like you're OP enough to actually explore umbral early. MY first tip would be not to push yoursefl too hard in there early game but now looks like you can.

Another thing is don't ignore magic. In this game hybrid builds are where it's at, not only do spells look cool but they're really powerful. Ever if you're packing strength you need some kinda projectile, and things like radiant buffs really make a difference.

Enjoy the ride!

I wonder if gamedevs release the games with all these patches , the amount of negative feedback this got because of performance issues kept alot of people from buying this.
I will be playing this on gp and see how this is since I'm a sucker for souls like games

I've come to terms with certain things that frustrate other players but the fatal sin of this game that I cannot look past is the fact that enemy attacks are magnetized to you.

Completely unacceptable in this kind of game. If that wasn't there my issues would be negligible and I'd be enjoying a relatively janky Soulslike.

It's just disappointing. I'm sticking with it though and the one boss I was stuck at, summoned in a random who made quick work of it. I much prefer fighting mobs and exploring versus some of these boss fights. It's just slop design at times and I feel like I'm not learning anything because it's like Mario Kart Wii levels of AI cheese. Not fun, just frustrating. It's a damn shame because there's some great ideas in here!

Best non-From souls like IMO. As soon as I picked up the game I felt "yep, this feels like a good soulslike".

I abused NG0+ to start fresh but all my items and leveling carried over. Also turned on the feature that causes weapon drops to match the level of your character.

It's nice that these features are in the game but it just strikes me as the game not being balanced well. It's a shame. I'm by no means a master at Souls games but I've always been able to find success with them, with LOTF it just feels absolutely F'd at times, not like I'm playing terrible either.

It's much more satisfying to be able to actually wander around and explore rather than hauling ass through certain areas. I feel like I'm actually able to engage with the game now.

Yea, this game is dope. It's still a 6/10 to me due to balancing issues but holy smokes the combat is fun as can be once you're able to actually engage with the game and not run through most areas. It's so damn quick, I love how fast it is.

I recognize too that I could certainly play better but all the same, you don't include these massive updates and NG+0 options if there aren't some fatal flaws baked into the game design. However, those who are GOATs at Souls games and those who put in the time to get a bit OP will find a lot to enjoy. It's a really interesting game and I absolutely see why opinions are so divided. I'm definitely in the 'gem' camp though at this point.

Hexworks could have a legit masterpiece on their hands with the sequel if they manage to fine tune some of their ideas.

Posting to say:
  • Got the Deluxe 1.5 Edition on sale for $39.99.
  • Truly surprised by how good the game is; it's no Elden Ring or Shadow of the Erdtree, but the developers have something going on here.
  • I didn't play the disastrous launch version so I don't have any personal anecdotes, but everything in 1.5 is stuff that shows the developer is committed to the game.
  • The game is drop dead gorgeous and the vistas rival anything From has done...except let's be honest: From's art department is in a class all its own.
  • The way that magic is handled/toggled is superior to what From is doing.
Sadly, there are some issues:
  • Some of the voice acting is horrible and doesn't fit the character you're shown on screen.
  • Combat feels a bit too fast, and the forward momentum, to me, feels too aggressive.
  • Umbral stuff is cool for the environment and boss enemies...not so cool for standard enemies.
Fextralife's review of this game is spot-on. And it's only gotten better since they published that review.
