Mario Kart World VS Sonic Racing Cross World

I'll play

  • Mario Kart World

  • Sonic Racing Cross World

  • Fuck Mario, fuck Sonic, fuck the planet

  • Why not both ? :ugly kid gif:

If I am playing one of them, it would be Mario Kart World.
Don't worry you won't(for a moment):
- The Switch 2 will be sold out for months.
- Console + games + accessories will be crazy expensive. (85 bucks extra controller for local play with a friend or paid online)

Both could be great. We know MK will be. Who tf knows with sega. I voted why not both. I'd rather a company charge me a high price for a premium product vs a medium price for a decent game. Life is too short for good enough and the quality will be remembered long after the price is forgotten. Skip your avocado toast and 10 dollar plus tax coffee milk shake for a couple of days and buy Switch 2 kids. Don't settle. Stop incentivizing the cities to promote RTO by saving just a small amount of your money for less than a week to buy the real deal instead of the knockoff.

I'll go with Sonic, I've always liked the Sonic Racing games more, the driving feels waaaay better, the environment detail is going to be specially better than MKW this time, everything it's just better imo, but I'll get MKW probably in a bundle day one, if I can't, I'll buy it later... Sonic yes, I'm very hyped for it and will probably get it on release window

2025 Sega is extremely consistent because of top tiers arcade teams joining Sega console Studios (even Shadow Gen is the best 3D Sonic ever made), all Sega Racing were good (not decent) and this time the S-Tiers Initial D Team is handling Sonic Cross Worlds:

Don't forget that the Initial D Team is famous in arcade for making deluxe arcade racers and polishing them after beta tests...

Yup, as always with the Initial D Gods, the beta has nothing to do with final product.(famous for listening feedbacks)
Sonic Cross Worlds beta was already fun (only the items were really problematic but easy to fix. )

Trust the Initial D Team Gods, Sonic Cross Worlds won't be "decent". 😎

Keep in mind that's a little different now:

- Previous Sonic Racing = Sumo Digital (they ported Outrun 2 so they had somehow inspiration from AM2 games.)
- For Sonic Cross Worlds: The Initial D Team is helping the Sonic Team. (that arcade team has staff from Sega Rosso and Sega Rally teams). Feeling will be a bit different.

For people wondering, nope. It's not really a modern (Sonic 06 style) Sonic Team game:

2025 Sega Studios and 2025 Sonic Team are different from the past for a simple reason. The best Sega arcade teams joined the console teams... That's why Sega is the only publisher with 3 metacritic publisher crown.
2025 Sega is fire. Facts.

the portal gimmick seems fun but ultimately just a cosmetic thing really.

Mario Kart seems to have meaningfully expanded the core gameplay with grinding jumping and wall riding as well as the knockout mode.

so for me Mario Kart is far more interesting

Grindind/riding part seems interesting in MK, indeed.

The Sonic over board new gameplay hasn't been revealed in the beta though.

Mario Kart was fun up to Double Dash, but since then I didn't enjoy any of the games. Casual, super wide roads, no more means to escape stupid attacks etc...

Sonic racing games though all got hundreds of hours of gameplay, they are still good games. Team Sonic was a bit weaker, but I think Crossworlds will be better.

If you're really flying through different worlds and portals, Sonic could honestly give it a run for its money this time.

MK will be great, but the tracks seem really wide. The best part looks like the trick system which will give high level players something to do.

All Stars Transformed is amazing, but the subsequent game wasn't good. So I'm not sure if I should be excited for the new one. The portal looks extremely janky and the jumpy framerate on the trailer didn't help make a good impression.

Team Sonic Racing was a budget game for Sega (the new Sega CEO told the press they were in safe mode at the time and Sumo had more important projects).

Sonic Cross World seems like a proper in-house game (TSR was outsourced) with proper budget and a S-Tier racing team co-developing with the Sonic Team.

There was no real framerate complains during the beta... (probably youtube issues)

It is, I can still play it and have a good time. I tried the CrossWorlds demo and it didn't particularly grab me. It looks nice and plays ok but I just didn't feel compelled to come back for more, especially with MKW around the corner. Also dialing down the Sega universe aspect and focusing more on Sonic is a mistake imo.
