Somehow I thought that after a year of these kind of charts they wouldn't be able to surprise me, but wow.

This is indeed quite a turnaround. Incredible!

I never go around labeling games as flops or successes, that's each companie's thing to declare. I am talking about perception here, a DS game that sells around 100k - 150k in its lifetime will certainly not be remembered as anything special, maybe not even as a decent seller.

Considering lot of DS games are made with small teams and small budgets, 100k-150k sales would mean decent profit in most cases. Just imagine how crazy the profit margins are for the Brain Training games.

not really... by all accounts it's a decent fighting game (i rented the us version and enjoyed it, but was a bit overwhelmed by the controls) and dbz is a much bigger franchise in japan than here.

xbox 360 sales are holding just shy of 20,000... most impressive considering.

the ds sold more than everything else put together if you don't count the wii, so the only system that's stopped that trend is nintendo's own system. doesn't look like wii sales are cannibalising ds sales either... nintendo must be over the moon.

Damn nice hardware sales. Particularly impressed by X360, PSP and Wii.

It would be awesome to see 2m DS instantly drop off the sky and see what would happen...

But Troidal saved the day by returning the 20,000 Yen I had given him for a CODE: Veronica Claire Dreamcast and on top of that, he lent me 5,000 Yen in order to get the system in cash. Troidal FTMFW!

Any other GAFers have trouble with Sofmap and credit cards? None of my card companies said I had holds, so it had to be Sofmap's fault.

What was total attach rate of both within the same time frame?

Isn't Monster Hunter Portable 2 around the corner? That should do insane numbers for the PSP. DS and Wii and probably every other hardware should drop quite a bit too next week, not just the PSP.

DS would probably sell at that level for weeks if the supply was there, and i'd be happy to bet that Wii would as well!!

I can't see that happening but i can that they're gonna stop making GBA's soon so they can make more of other stuff!!

With the exception of Squenix, this chart is very worrying for third parties in Japan! Almost all those DS games are Nintendo published. I don't know if all these DS sales will encourage third parties to support it or boycott it. I'd like to think the former is more likely but seeing as its most Nintendo software that is selling on the format, Nintendomination could be worrying for third parties.

But surprisingly, Love and Berry, final fantasy III and Monster Jokers have been million sellers despite of Nintendo.... can it be... that when third parties put effort into the console, exploits genres that Nintendo is weak at and \ or puts content adapted to the platafform, that their games suceed? I know, it is a crazy thing to think that third party games might sell on a Nintendo platafform, but think about it.

Not making the top 10 != not selling well.

In case you hadn't noticed the number 10 game on that list is doing higher numbers than the No. 1 game would've been doing barely three-or-four years ago. If anything it just leads more emphasis to how incredible Nintendo's own software is selling.

Honestly, if it's not "non-games" it's "Nintendo first party" or "handheld gaming killing off hardcore console gaming" or even this new-gen/next-gen differentiation crap (the Nintendo PR only used it for a bit of play on the direction Wii is going - I seriously doubt they meant for anybody to use it in actual methodology.)

I'm surprised that the 360 is maintaining 15+k sales. Will there be a big drop off in the next couple of weeks?

Also, the Wii is taking off. The DS is doing as good as always.

Third party games are doing well on the DS world wide. Even in NA Dean Takahashi commented just today 8 of the 24 100k sellers in December were third party titles.

it was a high volume month... to put that into perspective, PSP still sold substantially less than half of what the DS sold... plus you've got a psp game selling pretty nicely in MGS:pO. new colour as well too if i'm not wrong.
