DKCR is doing very, very well. A million is definitely within reach now. Amazing how the franchise managed to recapture relevance even after being absent all these years.

MHP3 is going to cross 4 million really, really soon. We'll probably get another press release early in Jan. I wonder if it'll manage to sell over 5 million when all is said and done.

IE3 Ogre is also selling very well, and it is surprising that the overshipment of IE3 hasn't really affected the performance of this re-release so soon after the original. It should sell over 500k, which is really good for what it is considering the size of the franchise. Another win for Level 5.

Ninokuni sales could either be a sign of things picking up slowly, or price drops clearing out stock. It's still too early to tell if it'll be a total failure in terms of being the major new IP that L5 wants it to be.

Aya Brea got owned by a bunch of teen idols. I guess old hags don't sell on the market anymore. Poor dear. :/

I still find this pretty amazing. The PSP is selling a load of hardware every week, but MHP3 is the only software selling this past month (outside of new releases that pop in and out of the charts pretty quickly). MHP3 has put up awesome numbers, but it really has come at the expense of the rest of the platform.

Yeah I thought so, and releasing right in the holidays shouldn't really help it's legs right? Too bad, the game looks awesome and I want to see more of Aya.

DKCR rising does my heart some good. 1,000,000 is definitely within reach. Amazing when you consider it has been 14 years since the last game in the franchise.

What a fantastic result for Donkey Kong. Obviously sales are going to slow down a fair now, but it's very likely going to nab at least a million sales in Japan alone which is a terrific result for virtually a dead franchise. It's also great because it's such an excellent game.

It wasn't a target from S-E though. Tabata said that it's just an internal figure for the development team to "aim" for, and is different from any business forecast or expectation.

Sooooo happy for DKCR. Such a great game and it's going to be Retro's first real mega hit.

Metroid Prime was relatively successful, but DKCR will be at an entirely different level.

Wow Nintendo total domination at Christmas.

Really happy about DK, hopefully with that and NSMB Wii we can get a resurgence in 2D console gaming

Can't wait for the hardware #'s. It will be interesting to see if PSP>DS this year or if PS3 > Wii. Also it could make a difference if people count next week as the last week of the year as opposed to this one.

On the PSP front it's possible but there's no chance at all for the PS3 to outsell the Wii this year...

However, we can say that DKCR & DKC3 both have Japanese origins and are from a Japanese company "Nintendo." I'm talking about the character here and not the developer of game.

But Crash Bandicoot 3 is a "pure" western game that was close to a million.

So is it safe to say that no pure western game crossed a million in Japan? (from a western publisher and developer).

WoW has had to pass a million, right? Or maybe something like The Sims?


Edit - Only assuming The Sims is popular in Japan since Miyamoto only listed Will Wright as an admired developer, and nobody else.
