MindsEye (Leslie Benzies' new game) | State of Play

If that's how the game is structured, cool, but at least communicate that to us instead of having us wonder if this is a GTA-type game or what.

That's exactly why most people are on the fence with this game, bc they aren't communicating what kind of game it really is.
I mean its an announcement so i assume we will learn more soon

It's clearly not a very big budget game, and for this kind of game it could be detrimental but i'm still interested just for the setting and the tone they're trying to go for.

People saying this looks generic? really?

We've been getting the same shit over and over again since 2008 with a few exceptions, now at least this, Tides of Annihilation, Lost Soul Aside and Hell US look like breath of fresh air.
I think that most of the time when people say a game looks generic they're actually saying the assets look generic. Honestly i can only understand it that way.

I understand the comments about the game being jank and feeling low budget, but I also get the praise it's getting.

We don't get this kind of games anymore. This is a game for "gamers". Male protagonist, grounded settings, no funny colors, no marvel dialogues, no women kicking men's ass. This is the kind of games that used to be the norm before, and don't take this the wrong way, every fucking game had a woman of color as protagonist, a cast to tick all the diversity boxes and absolutely no one in mind for it.

Go back to 2009 and this game would fit perfectly. I don't have a problem with modern games existing, but I really hope we can get back to games made by gamers and not by committee.

This feels like something different but it used to be the norm.

Benefit of the doubt but this is going to be another example on how one good game director doesn't magically make a good game.

Patrice Desilets, Clint Hocking, Glen Schofield, Jade Raymond. All people hailed as amazing game designers, all failed when they left the place that made them big.

Benzies had good ideas, helped make great games, is probably smart and probably a good person, but don't forget he had the power of Rockstar, one of the worlds biggest developers, at his disposal. Things are different when you have to scrape together a dev team yourself.

I'm hoping the "gameplay" trailer is just really poorly made. If you look at it, it doesn't even look like the AI is fully running in most scenes. I'm gonna have to operate on that assumption to keep my hype levels up. It didn't show what the damage model would be, in terms of spongey or lethal.

"Man shooting gun" may feel familiar but that doesn't automatically make it a great game. Is it a good start? Sure, why not. But how about they show us some more Gameplay Mechanics before we start calling it "the next best" or "the latest worst"...?

At first glance, seems like a game that will be similar in quality and budget to something like Just Cause. Wont win any awards, but might be a good AA filler game.

It is tough going deep because when you come back you could get the Benz.

Game looked interesting I want to see more. I don’t think it is exclusive.

Oh yeah, the gameplay was a bit meh, nothing mindblowing. I was trying to explain why it looked great for many despite the evident technical flaws.

I get the feeling this is going to be like Sleeping Dogs all over again, people shat on that game back in the day for not looking as good as GTA and for being "jank" but it turned out to be a right gem that most people didn't play until it was too late and the studio had already been closed.

The explosions looked good, but the rest didn’t do much for me. Looks like something from 2010.

I was pretty sure the protagonist was played by Lewis Hamilton, but apparently not.

Great game. GTA with Just Cause stunt position and Batman's combat (back before it had been done to death). Topped off with a decent story.

Plus they had my favorite Who song on the radio.

The animations for shooting and movement looked off. Hopefully this gets more time in the oven.

I'm kind of baffled some people call this "jank" or "horrible". Seen this kind of response on some other games too. Some folks seem to have exceptionally bizarre high standards/expectations.

New games aren't good unless you can visibly spot a character's skin pores under a magnifying glass, I guess.

It looked good, but looks like there’s quite a lot of focus on driving, and I suck so so so badly at driving in games or life, it may end up being a pass :(

Btw, SILVA corp. seems to be a not-so-subtle nudge at TESLA and its Neuralink neurotech. Seems like the underlying story will center around this idea.

Not sure why its a nudge at Tesla and Nueralink when tech like this has been in scifi for years.

Its gained more traction and talk as of recent due to TESLA's initiative.

I wouldn't put it past Benzie to pull the game through the old school Rockstar spirit and creative process where some elements were indirect callbacks to real life entities (MetLife -> GetALife, Burger King -> Burger Shot, Craigslist -> craplist, etc.). Ergo, SILVA could very well be a potshot at them (TESLA).

I wouldn't say trash, but I didn't think it looked very good at all. I was surprised when I saw most people saying how good it looked.

Looked like a 360/ps3 era game in one of those 4K 60FPS RTX HDR REMASTER youtube videos.
The thing that stood out the most to me was the empty environments and a lack of world motion. It felt static and more like an open world arena rather than an open world.
