RoboFu
One of the green rats
This is the absolute coolest ( I do not even know if you could call it a hack? ) thing ... I have seen in the home brew community in a long time and that is saying something. While not super new it has been updated a few times over the years.
So what is it?
Back when Mortal Kombat was released on the SEGA Genesis / Megadrive it seemed to a lot of people that it just wasn't as good as it could be. There was a few reasons for that. One the time frame was very short to get it out and two the publisher cheapened out on the Genesis cart and the devs were stuck with smaller storage than what was needed. Because of that a lot of corners had to be cut. missing animations, missing sounds, missing graphics and horribly compressed sounds at that.
Arcade Edition sought to rectify that and eventually become a major over haul of the classic port improving on everything. The Video posted below goes into more detail, but it is a lot more than just a quick face lift.
It runs on real consoles and shows that it wasn't always about the ability of the hardware as time and budget played a large role as well.
I do hope to see more projects like this in the future as I am always playing my old consoles and love all the new games and updates being released.
