Naughty Dog isn’t ruling out making more Uncharted games, developer says​

“It’s a world we want to see more of,” says Lost Legacy’s creative director

Naughty Dog reportedly remains open to the possibility of making more Uncharted games.

PS5 remasters of the two most recent series entries, 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and 2017’s standalone expansion Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, will be released on Friday.

Ahead of their arrival, GamesRadar asked Lost Legacy creative director Shaun Escayg and game director Kurt Margenau whether Naughty Dog could make a new Uncharted game at some point.

“I think we can say for certain that we can never say never,” said Margenau, who also served as lead cinematic animator on Uncharted 4.

“Yeah. Uncharted is a franchise we love – that the studio loves, I love, and [Uncharted 4 co-lead designer] Kurt loves,” he added. “It’s a world we want to see more of. So I can certainly say that.”

The PS5 remasters will be released in the form of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which costs $49.99 / £44.99 / €49.99.

Owners of Uncharted 4, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy or the digital bundle containing both games will be able to upgrade to the PS5 release for $10 / £10 / €10 at launch and carry over their save data and trophies.

VGC’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection review said “Naughty Dog’s first outing on the PlayStation 5 is an incredibly strong one, and only makes us even more excited for what it has coming next, and what it will be able to do with this technology.”

I don't know how much an Uncharted without Nate as the main character would excite me, but I enjoyed Uncharted 1-4 way more than The Last of Us 1-2 so if they can go back to the more light-hearted tone with some humor, I would definitely enjoy that more.

It really is time that Sony starts prepping for the next big event. We need to know and see what Naughty Dog is up to.

Seemingly they are working on so many projects. How would they manage all that? They also had to work on the TLOU HBO show and on the Uncharted movie (probably to a much minor degree than the TV show which directly involved Neil Druckmann).

Then there are the rumors of a Sci Fi game from ND, a Fantasy game, TLOU Remake and a Multiplayer game? As good as Naughty Dog are, they probably don't have enough people for all of that. Would be great to officially see what they are actually working on that we could realistically see in the next 1-2 years.

I need Uncharted in my life, just don't fuck with U4 ending and make a damn prequel ffs. So many possible adventures with Drake and Sully.. and Rika and Eddie or Sam.

And while we are it, make it in the veins of the original Trilogy. Dialogues were genuinely fun and honest in U1-U2-U3, in U4 they're often cringe-inducing only. I want to hear Drake's wit and not Druckmann trying to be fun and clever, so unless he can resist making his characters sound like dumb teenagers as it happened at times in U4, just hire someone else.

I said protagonist, not characters. They have been removing the white (straight) male progratonists from all their series (both new IP and existing franchises) and seems that Kratos will be the next one. It's a fact, the only exception is Death Stranding, and pretty much because it's Kojima and had his fetish with Norman Reedus. Even for the furry protagonist they had to include a female furry (even if in this case didn't replace him, was a coprotagonist instead).

Might be unpopular opinion but Nathan drake and story is done for me. Closure has been received.

Uncharted needs to have new protagonist. If they aren't the money hungry devs and have some balls, they will not revive Drake.

Half of the over two dozens of Sony games that are in development are new IP. Sony frequently releases new IPs. All Sony teams are growing to have more tracks to develop more projects at the same time.

So it's perfectly compatible to make a new IP and a new Uncharted after they release all their TLOU stuff later this year or early next one (tv show, MP game, TLOU1 remake, TLOU2 PS5 and probably Director's Cut bundle). And maybe even at the same time they can make TLOU3 too.

They released Uncharted 4 back in 2016, 6 years ago. If they start to develop Uncharted this or next year, add 5 or 6 years more for the release: it would be released in 2027 or 2028, 10 or 11 years after Uncharted 4 for PS6 and maybe crossgen. It doesn't make sense to wait more, it's already too much.

Unless there gonna radically reboot it. The tired 3rd person, regenerating health, linear dude shooter has got about as good as it's gonna get.

I think if it was structured like old school resident evil or MGS it could work well.

For the love of good have some more interesting enemy's to fight.

Imagine a new episode made on Next-Gen only, set on a tropical exotic setting ala Drake's Fortune and made with the best graphics you've ever seen, featuring the younger Drake seen in Panama in U4, Sully, Eddie & Rika, using the gameplay mechanics of U4 made to good use, and a tone totally in line with the Original Trilogy.

I would kill for such a thing, damnit!

If they get one out by 2025, it would be almost 10 years since U4. That's a good break to get people hungry for uncharted again. Just make sure drake is in it. Uncharted is Nathan drake. You can't have a game without him in it at all.

Played them all minus The Division. Uncharted 4 Multiplayer is by far the best TPS i've ever played and it's not even close.

Why would they stop making uncharted games? The series is on a historic run. The ending in 4 was bittersweet and was a HUGE risk for Naughty Dog, there's a little bit of anxiety of where the series is going. Introducing Drake's daughter has been a huge success in some crowds and could change the trajectory of the franchise for years to come.
