Need some PC Bros Knowledge with Frame generation

Gamer79

Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
Some Notes:
- I do understand some people cannot stand Frame generation and that is their prerogative. I am a fan of it and do not have a problem 90% of the time
-I prefer to Pc game on my couch using my 65 inch Samsung QD-oled. I do have a 32inch LG Ultra gear monitor but the display difference is dramatic
-I fall into the 98% and do not have a 4080 Super or a 4090
-My experience with my television benefits greatly from all of the lighting effects. I prefer to use path ray tracing combined with Frame gen to get that 60fps sweet spot on single player games. I prefer not to turn off settings to achieve a higher frame rate so that is why I use Frame gen

Ok, so most of the time I do not have a problem. I noticed certain games like forza Horizon 5 I can get 4k 80fps native no problem but other games that appear less visually appealing I can barely get 4k 30fps. (Using DLSS Quality on both settings of course) There are certain games when using Frame generation there are at times this Wavy kind of screen efffect. It's like a portion of my screen is off sync. It happens randomly but with certain games like Allen Wake 2 it can happen for 5 seconds at a time. Other games I do not notice it at all and some other games it happens just seldomly. What is that wavy kinda screen effect? My Tv is a 4k 120hz display but does have VRR and wondering if this an effect of Frame Generation or some kind of issues between the pc and my tv. It does not happen on my monitor but my monitor is only 1440p.

Would I benefit from dropping the resolution down to 1440p on my tv and upscaling to DLSS Quality or native 4k and upscaling to DLSS peformance on the televison?

Dropping the base resolution for higher performance.
Yes, you ll get better performance on lower resolution.

probably due to VRAM

Rule of thumb: No framegen without at the very very least 40fps base, better yet 60 or the FG issues become too visible.

Wavy? Sure its not screen tearing caused by dropping below VRR range? Lot of screens tend to have 48-120

I barely had much issues using FG so far, first time I really noticed issues was with my 4k DLSS performace mode was STALKER2 when it got ultra laggy when base performance got butchered in populated areas. Switched to 1440p and it was fine again with FG. Any other time when it runs above 60 with DLSS then FG is perfectly fine for me for all the free fps it brings.

Frame gen artifacting?

Play Silent Hill 2 with frame gen to test, you get artifacts when navigating the main menu and James’ hair when moving camera side to side.

Would you get more performance from your GPU by reducing the load on your GPU?

I’m don’t know why you wouldn’t use dlss for most modern games that have it. Use dlss and frame gen. If your gpu bound dlss is going to give you close to 2x bump right off the bat given you aren’t cpu limited.
