Need to buy a game from the Japanese Steam Store. Any tips?

It seems steam doesnt allow you to buy games from other regions. Which sucks because I want to buy this new Baseball game by konami but its only on the Japanese store. I tried using vpns to create an asian steam account but they caught the VPN, and wouldn't let me create an account.

I really dont understand this. I am willing to pay money for this game. I am not pirating it. The PS5 version of the game isnt region locked, but runs at only 1080p.

I used the Opera VPN, Proton VPN and Psiphon VPN all of which were caught by steam when creating an asian account. Is there any other way around this?

Look at how beautiful this looks.

I am confused by your lack of understanding. Things are region locked due to licensing issues. You're not in the region where the game is available. You wanting to pay for it doesn't magically mean licensing issues go away.

1080p is fine for a baseball game, so get the PlayStation 5 version. Not only can you not purchase this on Steam without your region being Japan, but you cannot even be gifted the game without your Steam account being set to Japan.

Looking on google right now I found this thread:

With apparently a method that works:

It's stupid how complicated this seems though. You also won't be able to play it on your main account which is a shame.

awesome. i will give this a shot.

edit: cant find vpn japan and the steam gift cards are sold out.

Maybe Larxia already got you covered, in case there should be something missing you might as well check this

got images and everything
Is it really this convoluted to buy a different region Steam game? I wanted to get the new DOA game. It would probably just be easier to buy it on DMM games.

Steam makes it hard to buy games from different regions because they offer regional pricing in lower income countries, which can sometimes be more than 40% cheaper than the regular MSRP.

They don't want people flooding the Uruguayan or Vietnamese stores to buy cheap games.

I live in Japan, my steam is still american because my account and credit card information that is tied to it is american. Thats a hint but not a solution

by the way i went to my first japanese baseball game last month, got to watch the swallows lose in real time

Well he cant change region of his steam unless he has Japanese payment source. STEAM does allow you to change regions mainly if you change countries but you can only buy and be approved if you have the local currency CC or whatever other local wallet. So yes you can use your old account that you made ages before in a different country but if you ever want to change, this is what is required. I currently live in VN but unfortunately I wont be able to keep using this region once Im back in Europe because I wont have a Vietnamese CC anymore so I have to make a purchase in another local currency, therefore change regions to that one.

Yea thats why i said its not a solution. If he wants the baseball game, Steam patched up the gifting loophole ages ago. I have a japanese bank account but i wont be returning stateside, i keep my US bank account attached to steam because its generally cheaper with better deals then here.

I feel you bro.

After catching a Hanshin Tigers game while I was in Japan I wanted one of the JP baseball games but I'm not sure if there is a way to do it with Steam. I ended up buying it on my HK PSN account because I had credit left over from buying DoAx3.

Interesting. I remember it was a pain to setup my HK and JP accounts. I set up my HK when I was over there in 2019 because I found out that HK gets a lot of “Asian releases” which include English a lot.
