Maybe the lack of 5D Mk IV hype kind of messed with the prices. It's crazy that camera prices seem to go up instead of down. I see Canon 5d MKIII going for 1800-2200 used and a 6d for over 1k when a year ago they were cheaper than that. I guess I need to stop waiting to get full frame for my business.
He could also just look for a 5d MkII.
Oh damn.Yeah, but it has the same autofocus as the 5D (2005) :S
Not sure how it is in practise to the 6D.
That increase in size is actually probably just the part where it's an f1.4Interestingly the prices for the A7 are slowly going down. I bought mine used on eBay for $850 in November last year, now you can get a decent one for about $820. Granted it's a $30 drop but a drop is still a drop lol.
Anyway, my Nikon 50mm 1.4 showed up in the mail today. Here it is right next to the Series E 50mm 1.8:
It's crazy how lens construction changed in about 5 years. The 1.4 I have was made between 1974 to 1976 and about 5 years later Nikon managed to make it super small and make a "pancake" albeit .4 slower:
The 1.4 is basically double the length of the 1.8!
Here's a quick shot from the 1.4 at 1.4:
The distortion is kinda ehh (the edge of the table is flat as you can see with the lens pics before) but I don't think it's a dealbreaker for me... for now. We'll see tomorrow when I can actually use it on a human being lol.
On the positive side, it's insane how everything just melts away behind the bear. With the lens pics(both taken with my 28-90 at 2.8) you can kinda tell that there's actually some depth behind the subject, with the 1.4, it's all one huge of blob of whatever.
Maybe the lack of 5D Mk IV hype kind of messed with the prices.
Yeah it's all about finding what works for you. I heard the Mk IV is more of a evolution and not an evolution. There seems to be no wow factor with it or at least nothing that makes it stand out. Probably more of a problem with the competition being a lot stiffer than when the 5D Mk III came out.True. I will give it a few months of refocusing my work and then figure out which I want to invest into.
So I was able to get that a6000 open box from Best Buy earlier today. Everything looked perfect. Bought an SD card as well.
Overwhelmed by all the options but excited to learn.
I appreciate all the info you guys gave me. Thanks!

Yeah I'm not a video person either. I can do it for work, but for my own personal stuff I don't want to bother with it at all. Nothing about the MK IV really wowed me. I honestly just tell people to save up for a used MK III if they're upgrading to a Canon full frame camera. I know the MK IV has the edge in certain specs, but it kind of just seems by the numbers to me, like they did the bare minimum as an upgraded camera. It's pretty evident Canon wanted people to back away from the SLR for video. I'm not really interested in shooting video, luckily![]()
For photography, the added dynamic range, resolution, speed, and a few nice things here and there are nice. I think the 5D MK II was more of a revolution, MK III more evolutionary, MK IV more evolutionary still. At this point I want more evolution (better sensors for ever better image quality, for example) than anything major. Had Canon decided their niche 5DS/5DSR was a satisfactory successor to the MK III, I would have jumped ship (most likely to D750 or D810).
What body are you using?Bought the Fuji XF 23mm 1.4 lens. Now have the unofficial 'old Holy Trinity' (before the 16mm 1.4 and the 50-140mm arrived) of 14, 23 and 56mm.
When looking for pure joy
, superb colors, easy and intuitive handling and controls and awesome glass, Fuji really delivers.
And now Iridient released an Fuji RAF to DNG converter for PC, I also have great quality files without foliage and worm problems to edit in Lightroom.

So finally sold my aging Canon Kiss X and made a jump to mirrorless from DSLR (hopefully for good) by buying A6300. Now the fun part begins, and by that I mean hunting for good prime lenses.
Congrats, that's what I have and I love it. I just bought two new prime lenses as well so I hope to have some fun with those soon.
Also, if you aren't aware of it, check out this thread for some really good pics from gaffers and some good tips.

I really wish they would give me more customizable mount adapter setting slots since I'm mostly using adapted lenses. And better file management. I'd much prefer it storing my photos into date folders instead of what it's doing now and being able to select a range of photos to delete at once instead of having to select each one by one to delete. Other than that, my x-e2 is a good compliment to my DSLR. Fuji and Pentax have similar philosophy in many areas.
I almost want to switch to Fuji because of having adapted lens profiles, tbh.
It's just there to write the focal length of the lens used into exif data lol. Having only 2 slots requires me to dig deeper into the menu to select the right one. On my Pentax, it just asks me what focal length I am using when it first detects a manual lens with a list of 10 or so I have used in the past so it's way more flexible. Does Sony not have that? It'd be a strange omission.
Nope, just completely blank on all lens info. No aperture (duh), focal length, or name.
What do people think of this lens for astrophotography/landscapes? I have a D750. Does this lens have auto-focus? Is it a full-frame lens? Also why is it cheap when compared to a lot of other fixed-length lenses?
Is 698 for a canon 5D Mark II with a shutter count of 32k worth it as a stepping stone for a year or so as a secondary camera to my 70D?
That's about average IMO, for that shutter design you never want to buy one second hand above ~35,000 actuations. As long as you've got the glass for it, you'll see an immediate improvement in IQ over the 70D.Is 698 for a canon 5D Mark II with a shutter count of 32k worth it as a stepping stone for a year or so as a secondary camera to my 70D?
I got my D600 with way more than that, but then again I got the shutter changed for free. Shouldn't be too bad as long as it was taken care of well enough. Though my next camera is being bought at B&H. Thankfully there's Lenstagger on Lightroom. Can put all that info and them some (though I leave out actual aperture of the shot) in with just a few clicks.yeesh, that'd drive me nuts.
It's for Nikon 1 camera won't work on FX.

Also thankfully I remember what lens I had for each shot (though its pretty easy to tell stuper-wide from 50mm from 100mm).

I always ask everybody if they really need the 4K. If you can live without it then get an A7 II how much difference in price is there between the A7 II and the A7R2?Should we assume that the A7 III will be announced around October like the previous models? I'm trying to decide, as I'm about to pull the trigger on the A6500 for 4K indie filmmaking, but I want that Full Frame sensor so bad for photography and trying to figure out if I should wait on the Mk. III. This is driving me nuts. Do they usually announce their cameras at trade shows and such?

If you are getting a6500 then a7 iii, might as well just go for a7r2. What are you saving there?
It's more-so staying up-to-date on the newest thing for indie film. The A7R II would require a lot of saving up, as $3,000 is a substantial amount of money for someone like me. I may just wait. Does Sony usually announce anything around Spring time?

My understanding is that the A6500 has a bad rolling shutter issue. I'd make sure that's not going to be an issue for you before buying that camera for movie making.

Good 35mm camera types for this class are:
Canon (AT1, AE1, Rebel, Elan)
Pentax K1000
Nikon (N70, N80, N2000, FM, Nikomat or Nikkormat)
Olympus OM1
Minolta (Maxxum or X-series)
This list is not comprehensive. If you find a camera for a good price, be sure it is an SLR and has a Manual Exposure Mode (which means that you can adjust aperture and shutter speeds independently).

Check out the Canon A1. Though there are so many options for SLR, you really can't go wrong.
