Hope it's not MercurySteam.
They are already ruining Metroid, no need to come back again on Castlevania.

Metroid Dread has :
- Bad Art Direction
- Bad OST
- Bad Level design
- No freedom of exploration
- Can't understand Samus character (thinking she needs to pose (Kraid scene) and be badass all the time is just idiot and edgy, when she should take seriously every threat without being overconfident or too fragile, just a middle ground)
- OK gameplay but absolutely no progression curve in how you learn to control and optimize your movements (like in Super) and no skill required because there's almost no variance in how the jumps and run work and almost no momentum

So no thank you.
And please Nintendo, give Metroid to competent japanese developers (you know, actually competent developpers for good gameplay aside from a FPS game) or do it yourself, and grow some balls by finally translating Super Metroid gameplay in a 3D 3rd person game action/platforming/shooter.

(Even though I think the first Lords of Shadows was OK, the others games went downhill from there)

Lords of Shadow was boring and I quit part way through. Even turned it down to easy to try and burn through for the story and still got bored.

AAA Castlevania doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, but I am open to having my mind changed. We'll see what the trailer looks like if it ever exists.

Remakes have their place too, but yes announcements that are hyped should be for something new.

I would like to see an Arkham Asylum - like Castlevania. No QTE shit, just 3D Metroidvania with great gothic graphics, great boss fights, and cool powerups.
And Amazing music.

I'll be interested in anything new Castlevania related.
But honestly instead of generic AAA action game or Soulslike I'd like to see them do a high budget 2D game. Give me something with amazing sprite work or 3D graphics like Ori.

I've noticed, unless it's Nintendo, Square or Metal Gear, 8/16 bit era ips have vanished from the AAA sphere, they're only used for intentional retro throwbacks like Streets of Rage 4, gone are the days where they would still get fully 3D updates like Golden Axe Beast Rider.

But, a recent exception is Ninja Gaiden 4, so maybe it's possible the same will happen for Castlevania.

Am I the only one who has no interest in a AAA Castlevania. Give me a 2D Castlevania or SOTN 2 with the exact same graphics that it had on the PS1. That's how I want my Castlevania. Not a 3D God of War clone.

Last time they put out a AAA Castlevania they also released a 2D companion game that wasn't half bad. Maybe they'll do the same with this one..

I think the lies of p studio could make a good castlevania. it would be cool if it was like a version of simons quest where you go to villages, countryside, mansions, then ultimately the castle
You might as well get fromsoftware to do it because Lies of P just copies them. Hopefully this is one of the games Platinums Games is developing.

I'd really need to see what that even looks like by now. The series has had such a long streak of shitty to thoroughly mediocre 3D iterations that I have a hard time even picturing it without thinking Bloodborne with Threaded Cane and a jump button. I don't want that either. I want all these classic series to be leaders and not followers again.

But honestly, I'd be down with a 64 remake to get things started.

Will it be in the original timeline and talking about that Demon's Castée War 1999 when Julius imprisons Dracula in a solar eclipse?

First remaster Curse of Darkness and perhaps tweak its gameplay somewhat. Its underrated.

Its a vampire hunter vs Dracula in a castle. It just doesn't work as a 20+ hours bloated game. LoS bored me also, I never beat it. Lament and Curse of Darkness were boring too, granted. But better and more varied than Lords.

I enjoy 2D castlevania the most, with exploration and minimal story.

Konami needs to deliver what everyone's been wanting all along - PS1 Castlevania on PS2.
IOW, just more of the 2D PS1 Castlevania but better looking.
2D PS1 Castlevania is Castlevania.
It's not just Konami, there's tons of PS1 best-ever games that are permanently stuck on PS1.
Taking PS1 games and using UE to 'remake' them as 4k PC games will remove the signature PS look and cost studios 5% of gross sales in perpetuity.
In an ideal world all of Sony's great PS1 games would be 'remade' as PS2 games (no UE involved) and given full DualSense functionality.
PS6 would have full PS2 HW baked-in and studios could sell us new PS2 games at full price.
Lots of tiny things with PS1 and PS2 games need to be fixed like upgrading audio, utilizing triggers for analog instead of action buttons and adopting the updated menu format where O is back instead of ▵.

Fully agree. If it's not made in Japan and side scrolling it might as well be a new IP. I've already said goodbye to Castlevania as a franchise that is still releasing new entries, so Konami cannot hurt me here.

What you didn't like about it? I think it had being 3D going against it.

To me it was superb, the playthrough was ton of fun. A wild ride throughout a multitude of interesting levels and loads of thing to do. I couldn't put it down tbh. But for each its own, what's your favorite Castlevania?

Good but not great. Not even close to SotN and DoS.

What you did not like about it? Did you finish it?

Yeah finished it, scratched the itch for a new Castlevania but ultimately disappointed me. The map was disjointed and not at all fun to traverse, and the controls were very stiff. Grindy spots for a couple powers needed to progress but with poor drop rates (that one water ability). I didn’t care for the art style or the music, and the story was the most generic I’ve seen in a Castlevania. Still a pretty good game because it’s a Metroidvania but not one I’m interested in replaying.

In the past, I always bought a new system if it had a 2D Castlevania on it.

The 3D ones have all been garbage especially the God of War clone ones.

Could a good studio make a 3D action/adventure game that still 'feels' like Castlevania?

Yes

Is there any evidence that a studio like that exists in 2025?

No

The Dominus collection had a nice surprise with the remake of Haunted Castle at least.

I'd love to see a collection that had the N64 or PS2 games, or the MSX2 and X68000 versions again.

Finally Iga can get off his ass and finish Bloodstained 2: Maybe Good Combat This Time.
