New Castlevania AAA to be announced in 2025

Define “AAA”… I don’t want some bloated 3D Castlevania, but I feel like any 2D Castlevania would be more of a “AA” release.

Honestly I can’t remember the last time we got a “AAA” 2D game. Maaaaaybe Mario Wonder, but that’s pushing it.

Its totally going to be a 3d soulsborne clone 🙄

I loved Lords of Shadow games. If they make the new game like those I'll buy it.

Especially the second game. One the most underrated and wronged game because of that idiot Metacritic score. Maybe it had problems at launch (didn't play it at launch) but they fixed everything and I loved it. Smooth gameplay, big actors voicing (and nearly perfect voices for each character), too much enjoyable story.

Damn, now I wanna play it again. After my AC playthrough I'm definitely gonna play again.

Have I been sleeping on Lords of Shadow 2? I should really give it a shot. I liked the first a lot but everyone shits on the 2nd game.

Either Souls or Devil May Cry/God of War (PS2 era) gameplay will work fine for a 3D Castlevania as well as I am concerned.

I don't want 2D gameplay, it's a niche genre that doesn't move the needle sales wise. I bought Bloodstained, it was ok, but the gameplay simply feels archaic to me. While I LOVED SotN, I don't think I can play it today. Same with Diablo - the formula just seems ... old to me.

You know how they say "Trust your instincts"? You're the exception
I'm just playing

Have you tried SotN since Bloodstained? You might surprise yourself. SotN is far more fluid and better feeling to play, not to mention the visuals and music being better. There's nothing I prefer about RotN over SotN in all honesty.

No, but I completely agree. Everything in SotN is superior - campaign setting, enemy design, locations ... the only thing that Bloodstained has in its favor is 3D graphics, and that is diminished by the lackluster art style. It has some good tunes, but nowhere near as memorable as SotN.

Still, I can't enjoy it as much as I enjoyed it back then. It's like playing SF2 after playing SF6. Everything feels obsolete and inferior.

I want a Lords of Shadow with more focus on the castle, and a little more flashy combat. And twice the bestiary.

I'm the same way with classic Streets of Rage after playing 4. But for whatever reason I don't get tired of classic Igavanias and think they're timeless with solid mechanics (some better than others, through). I bought the collections and have been playing them all again.

I pushed through a couple hours of Lords of Shadow years back and found it to be a boring God of War clone. I'm all for your wishlist, anything to make it more interesting. I wanted to like it. I even turned the difficulty down to try and lessen how spongey enemies were, but I gave up and uninstalled.

Dude - Streets of Rage 4 is so fucking good. And I mean ... if Konami does a Castlevania game in the same way that Sega is doing a Shinobi game or Dotemu with Streets of Rage - 2D, but reeking of atmosphere and style and have faster paced gameplay and more thought into its combat system being more than just jump, attack attack ... then, yeah. I could be on board with a 2D Castlevania.

I think they will do a 2d game and a 3d game like with ninja gaiden with the 2d one coming out first

Late October Surprise
Hopefully they copy Souls gameplay.

I did a Dr Strange style audit on all the possibilities of how this game can turn out. It's not looking especially good. Mostly because of the "AAA" tag. I don't think Konami has the bowling ball nuts required to drop a new side scrolling, sprite based 'Vania with an 8 figure budget. If they did though, I would preoder whatever stupid ultimate edition they could cook up if the old guard was involved. $99 EZ

I'd love to see something similar to Castlevania 64 again. Despite what some people say, I think this game is good. Love this blend of platform / adventure elements (not this corridor hack'n slash that PS2 games are) and they absolutely nailed the atmosphere! It captures the feel of Castlevania, unlike Lords of Shadow.

If it only had some extra polishing on controls and camera...

In my opinion, second game is so much better than the first game. Released with lots of game braking bugs and the classical snow ball situation with people.

So much fun and solid game on all around. Will not stop recommend it to everyone.

If you want 2D Castlevania just play this:

Metroidvanias are a dime a dozen nowadays, and a waste of time for Konami to make one with high production cost. That is no knock on this game. It is being made by a guy that made some Konami sanctioned Castlevania fan games called The Lecarde Chronicles 1 & 2.

Wow, a game with the Beast of Gévaudan as the plot. That's rare and interesting enough to be worth a look. Thanks, it's completely under the radar.
