New Xbox device coming in 2026, known as Xbox Prime

You are confusing a premium mid generation upgrade with the mainline entry. $700 isn't a mass market price range, it's enthusiast level pricing.
The ps5 barely dropped its price and even got more expensive in some markets in 4 years... the ps5 pro is not that much of an upgrade (like the ps4 pro was) over the ps5 and it costs 699... how do you propose sony launchs in about 4 years a new sku with a generational leap over the ps5 pro (like the ps5 was for the ps4pro) costing what 499 ? ... 499 in 4 years maybe gets you ps5pro power + better cpu.. maybe...

So ... or they will go two skus or it will cost 699+ ... better prepare for this.

Portable handheld sounds more plausible. What I envision seeing happening is Microsoft's take on the Playstation Portal but more heavily inspired by the Nintendo Switch with removable 'joycon's that can easily be replaced and the main unit can be docked so that it can be played on TV like a Switch. Prime is kind of a play on Transformers in that you can transform the Prime into different styles of play from a more traditional console like experience to a portable handheld. I most likely would buy one of these.

I think it’s going to be hard for almost all of these current consoles to move on to next gen. Switch will have the best success because it’s already been forever, and price point will be less.

Sony and Microsoft can’t have a 699 barrier for next gen IMHO. Or if they do it will sell very slowly and developers will continue to developer for ps5 / series X for 2-3 years after they release new gens.

Cloud is really the only way forward for mass adoption and the sooner someone just goes for it the better it will be for us as tools and developers build around the infrastructure.

I’m honestly surprised that Nintendo hasn’t adopted cloud as they would be the easiest service to get off the ground. Launch will snes / n64 collections and do to the small file sizes you could probably store them in Memory with a 24 check in or something than erase it. 200mb files are trivial for 90% of console gamers.

I'm using the PS4 Pro as the example, it launched at $399, the same price the disc less PS5 launched at.

There's no reason to expect different, especially in 2026-2028 money.
Ps4 to ps4 pro price delta was $100 ($300 versus $400).

The delta from ps5 to ps5 pro is $275 ($425 versus $700).

Not the same situation imo but I guess time will tell.

PS4 Pro launched at the same price PS4 launched at (both were $399) at launch.
I would say maybe $500 for a ps6 in 2029. $700 as a minimum price of entry for a new generation xbox prime in 2026 would be absolutely catastrophic for sales imo. Series struggled big time this gen even with series s at clear out $150 levels....

Sony are having a hard time moving launch PS5 Pro stock, it would be suicide to launch PS6 at that price. Sony would be foolish to make the same blunder that they did with PS3 launch pricing. Pair that with an Xbox that is cheaper, out a year or more sooner, and would be the new "lead CoD console" and that starts to sound familiar doesn't it?

I'll give you that inflation window though, but I don't think either side will go above $599.

The difficult in moving ps5pros is the perfomance.. is not there ... sure you get prettier grapfics zooming in and taking pictures .. but this gen has been all about perfomance also.. and the cpu is holding the system back.

4 years after the ps5 you got the ps5pro at 300 dollars more and is not that much of an upgrade... like the ps4pro really was .... and you want a generational leap ps6 cheaper than the ps5 pro in 4 years ? ... its nice to dream I guess..

People are going to get pissed either way... because the ps6 will be "ps5 pro like" at 499 or will cost 699.

Time will tell.

For me personally I wish they stay away from 499 cheap boxes... and focus this time on giving the system a decent future proof CPU ... the ps5pro is proving that midgen upgrades right now are mute if the cpu cant keep up...

I mean, it's less about dreaming and more about the reality of expendable income ceilings crashing into diminishing returns for an entertainment medium in decline.

We are well past being luxury items here, and going above $500 pretty much ensures that parents won't be buying them for their kids. Hell, I consider myself a pretty invested gamer, and cannot fathom buying another console(excluding Nintendo) after this generations shitshow, and spending $700 for the pleasure? lmfao, no.

Given what we've seen with Nvidia, I have a hard time believing AMD can even deliver a box WORTH $699 in 2026.

The ONLY way I can even see it being successful for Xbox is if it is indeed some sort of pc/console hybrid.

Yeah it's in such a decline that Sony fought tooth and nail to make sure it doesn't leave. You must be talking gameplay wise cause surely you don't mean sales?

Are you forgetting that game is like more than half of Sony's 3rd party and MS 1st party lifeline?

Thats another thing... with AMD getting way behind Nvidia in the technology department is not all about "raster" anymore.. amd already seems like "another product".. how many more gens Sony/Ms will get with AMD ? POWER is not the problem when the competition (geforce) is offering another level of experience

Trillion dollar company and can't find a good name for a console that they can follow
Xbox prime is just a horrible name , will be confused by Amazon prime by so many casual audience

Yes and Sony can price whatever they want however high they want. Not to mention accessories, consoles etc. Everything will be priced a multitude higher if there is no direct competitor keeping things on an even keel.

Like I said, an actual nightmare for any consumer who wants to play on a console without being price gouged.

PS+ and Xbox Gamepass are already stupidly expensive, PS+ even moreso. Imagine if there is no Xbox sub to balance it against. They could make the base price 20 euro's per month for basic PS+ and people wouldn't be able to do shit about it.

This is making me feel like Louie van Gaal (the soccer coach)

Am I the one who is smart or are you guys just stupid? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I think before the end, they started shipping a model which had some built-in 4 or 8GB storage, I think it was the Xbox 360 E or something like that.

But, yeah, for all intents and purposes, it shipped without an HDD for 99% of its run.

I bought an Arcade model and a 20GB HDD separately, shit was a REVELATION when they started the NXE install update to allow full game installs on the HDD.

Lost Odyssey battle times went from 20 seconds to 4.
The "Slim" model had 4GB of internal storage in 2010, the "E" also had 4GB of internal storage in 2013.

Imagine the number of delayed projects because of series s, even the cross-gen period won't last more than 2 years, makes sense.

Cod for the Xbox launch lineup, that reminds of ghosts, not a bad game actually, hopefully it's the first great game from ms after the acquisition.

They need to launch anything just to say they tried. It will be probably some kind of portable with short legs and distributed only in the US and few other territories. Current European Xbox sales wouldn’t justify the legal paperwork to launch it here. No problem, there’s probably a huge untapped market somewhere else, Greenland comes to mind. Console cancelled during the second year with a “sorry guys, we tried”. And this coming from a big Xbox fan.

Not convoluted enough.

They should release a handheld with small font "x-BOX" and then a powerhouse named "X-box".
Or go with a Prefix this time.

Quite impressive.

MS managed to put out 5 main Xbox branded custom hardware consoles, a few mid life updates and revisions, and judging by this rumor one more badged box to come.

Yet not a single one of them was identified as "2". Or indeed anything indicating a sequence. They really hate numbers it seems. Same with the Windows versions now I think about it. And office stuff.

They made a lot of errors and this is a trivial point, but I hate it when companies do that. It annoys the fuck out of me with Apple iPads too. I was also recently looking at earbuds form Nothing - Nothing Ear 1 Nothing Ear 2 and then Nothing Ear (a) and Nothing Ear are the latest. Wtf?

Just make it clear where the device is in the iteration hierarchy.

They should have just called the XO the Xbox 4 and been done with it. When asked, they could have claimed the 360 S was their third console. It wouldn't have made sense, but people would have shrugged and rolled with it.

Instead we got the Xbox One X leading to the Xbox Series X............

Who cares about cod day 1 release cause it'll be day 1 on all other platforms too. Unless it's a version that separates itself so much from the rest. They are better off day 1 for something that has been cooking for a long time that can't best played anywhere else.

What's the point in investing in the Xbox Eco system anyway...not sure what they are hoping to achieve with their next console...

It's hard to imagine it will be another walled garden like all their previous consoles.

If it's just a PC, then the games going forward will just be PC games sold through a Microsoft launcher. If you ever want to play those games on another PC, you'd just need to sign into whatever launcher Microsoft has - presumably the same one used for PC Game Pass. They'd basically have a competitor to Steam and Epic Games Store, etc. running on laptop hardware squeezed into a console box.

To be clear, I don't think that's interesting or a good value proposition. I think if you're going to play on PC, you are (mostly) better off sticking with the most popular digital market place, which is Steam.

If they go this route, it seems like they'll need to develop emulators that can run 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series games on PC hardware. That way you sign in with your account and you have access to all of your existing digital library you've built up on the previous custom hardware. If they're going PC, I have to imagine this is what they're working on right now. We've heard rumors about a team that's trying to develop an ultra bare bones version of Windows that strips out as much of the stuff not needed for gaming as they can. If they can lean it out and get "closer to the metal", they can get better performance with lower cost hardware.

As someone who already games on PC, I'd love to see this gaming focused version of Windows become available to everyone, then Valve get a version of Steam that can take advantage of it. I would happily rework my current gaming PC with a new version of windows if it would make the games run faster.

Because eventually the Xbox " app " will be the only place to play all these games on many different devices. Buy once and play anywhere.
