NFL 2012 Week 7 |OT| Shhhhhhhh

The struggling Green Bay Packers absolutely embarassed the Houston Texans at home Sunday night shocking only unbelieving swine who had lost their faith in
the one true Godgers. Before the 42-24 asskicking that Aaron Rodgers dealt Houston, the Texans were undefeated. It remains to be seen whether or not the annual
Texans cycle will kick in after this loss but Texans fans have to be worried. The team underperformed against the Jets and shat the bed against the Packers. The loss
of ILB Brian Cushing has proved devastating, their coach is unproven at making important adjustments, and the team faces a competent Baltimore Ravens team
on Sunday. The Texans are likely to bounce back in a pitiful division but one wonders when?

The Packers season is looking up although they'll be facing a hungry Rams team in St. Louis this Sunday before entertaining unimpressive faire in the Jags and the
Cardinals. If the Pack is truly back they'll be sitting at 6-3 at the bye, which would make them a legitimate threat for the second half of the season.

Russell Wilson finally led the Seahawks to a comeback win that wasn't tainted by replacement refs when the Seachickens downed the Patriots 24-23 last Sunday.
It was a huge win for the Seahawks who are looking to contend with the 49ers in a tight race in the NFC West.

The loss was disappointing for Patriots fans but hardly damning of their team. The Jets and Dolphins are unlikely to compete in the AFC East for long making it a
relatively easy walk into the playoffs. Still, the once vaunted Patriot offense is looking beatable and that's not good for Brady Gaga and Captain Bill Belicheat.

Both teams have big games against divisional opponents this week.

giants.jpg

The defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants were certainly in championship form as they downed the San Francisco 49ers impressively Sunday.

The Niners were considered the team to beat coming into the 2012 season but after a loss to the Vikings and now the Giants, the chinks in the armor may be
starting to show. Much like the Texans and Falcons, the 49ers like managing the clock and show a consistent inability to come back from large deficits. They have
a couple of important games on the horizon, notably Chicago, New Orleans, and New England, so they'll have to get their shit together if they want in the post
season, let alone home field advantage.

The Giants are as impressive as they were in their Super Bowl run and without much strong competition in the NFC East, they're unlikely to miss the playoffs,
although one wonders if complacency will set in. The Giants play best with their backs against the wall and as they say, heavy lies the crown.

Both teams have important divisional games this week.

The atmosphere should be electric Thursday night when the 4-2 Seattle Seahawks take on the 4-2 San Francisco 49ers in a divisional bout at Candlestick Park.

The 'Hawks are coming off of a big win against the Patriots while the Niners are looking to rebound after a somewhat embarrassing loss to the Giants.
With the Cardinals, Niners, and Seahawks all at a 4-2 deadlock for first in the NFC West and the Rams not too far behind, this is an important game for both teams.

The Seahawks are likely to try to copy the blueprint set by the Giants by playing tough defense and pounding the ball with a physical back in Marshawn Lynch.
Game manager and nothing more Alex Smith is coming off a 3-pick night against the Giants and will look to rebound against a thuggish but staunch Seattle secondary.
The 49ers have shown an inability to recover from early deficits, whereas wunderkind Russell Wilson has made a splash with two big 4th quarter comebacks.

It's anyone's guess who will win the game but the Niners have the edge at home.

The Washington Redskins are looking to steal one from the New York Giants as the divisional rivals face off Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.

While breakout rookie Robert Griffin III has been the talk of the league, the Redskins have been inconsistent, dropping a couple of winnable games to fall to 3-3.
They'll need a good outing for their offensive line facing Osi Umenyiora and the Giants' front four if RG3 is to stay on the field.

The defending Super Bowl champion Giants, 4-2, have struggled in the division, so this is an important game for them. The good version of Eli Manning will have to
show up when he faces a strong-to-very-strong Redskins defense.

If the Giants can find a way to contain RG3, they win this one handily by 10 or more.

DETvsCHI.jpg

The Chicago Bears are sitting atop the NFC North at 4-1 with the Detroit Lions politely holding the key to the cellar at 2-3. If the Bears want to be taken seriously
as a legitimate threat they should win this game at home but they're likely to get Detroit's best punch (literally and figuratively) in this divisional bout.

The Lions are coming off a much needed win against the Philadelphia Eagles but their once high-powered offense has struggled. Expect their struggles to continue
as they face a Bears defense that is finally starting to play at a high (higher? average?) level. Lions QB Matthew Stafford has shown no patience in the pocket which
will make this a tough matchup for the Lions when they face the Bears' cover-2 defense. Although the Bears are thin up the middle, their corners are physical and
should give Calvin Johnson fits.

Matt Forte should have a big night against the oft over-aggressive Lions defensive line but with Detroit's secondary in shambles, Cutler and Marshall could have a
huge game Monday night.

If the Lions want to keep their playoff dreams alive then they'll have to pull out this important divisional game. The Bears look good on paper but if Cliff Avril and
Kyle Vanden Bosch can get to Jay Cutler, look for him to bitch out per usual, and hand the game to the Lions.
