Nintendo is shutting down the Switch eShop and all other online services in China in 2026.

In an announcement on Tuesday, Tencent, which manages Nintendo’s sales in the country, confirmed that as of March 31, 2026 the Nintendo Switch eShop will stop selling games and software within the country. Weeks later on May 15, 2026, Switch owners will no longer be able to download games, DLC, or redeem any codes for the system.

All other online services will also shut down on May 15.

For those who currently own a Nintendo Switch and have an active WeChat account, the company is giving away up to four free Nintendo Switch games from November 27, 2024 through March 31, 2026. The list of games players can choose from include:

  • New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
  • Super Mario Party
  • Mario Tennis Aces
  • Yoshi’s Crafted World
  • Flexible Brain School
  • Dr Kawashima’s Brain Exercises
  • Kirby Star Allies
  • New Pokémon Snap
  • Pokémon Go! Pikachu
  • Pokémon Let’s Go! Eevee

This is more of China's bullshit bureaucratic administration process rather than Nintendo or Tencent's strategic plan. The China eShop isn't even approved to sell BotW to this day.
