Former Platinum Games producer Hideki Kamiya has taken to X to rant about the Nintendo Switch 2 leakers who spoiled today’s reveal for some people. To say Kamiya was furious with them could be seen as a bit of an understatement. You can read the Okami sequel developer’s thoughts about the subject down below.
"I hope all of the people who leaked Switch 2 information, and those who helped leak it, will be cursed for the rest of their lives to always have poop on the soles of their shoes when they get home"

"The worst of scum ... [they] should be covered in shit from head to toe and thrown out of the atmosphere... and then stop thinking and wander forever"

"They need to be crushed as soon as possible"

I agree.

I can't stand the endless leak/rumor-mill. For two reasons: the main one being it's just grifters who want to receive engagement/ad revenue. Screw those people. The second reason, show some self restraint. To me it's like looking at your Christmas gifts, before Christmas. Does no one want to be excited/surprised anymore? Is everyone always on the hype train and they simply can't wait?

Avoid the hype train, avoid the rumors, you'll find yourself pleasantly surprised when the reveal takes place. Or maybe you're disappointed but what have you lost? You weren't hyped and you weren't invested in the rumors, so it's whatever at that point. It's all win-win.

I get his principle (and agree with that) but the Switch thing is just something else entirely. It's not like leakers spoiled some "magic" moment (think Okami reveal) here. It was all very technical and very basic.

Japanese society is in large parts still very "docile", so stuff like leaking and piracy are seen as these sinister things ALL THE TIME, when in reality they're just really not, so I'm not exactly surprised that he would get his panties in a bunch over this,

I look at it like this.

Think of all the legendary reveal moments, at any kind of trade show or award show. They are fun to go back and revisit on YT and if you were watching live, you have that memory of watching and how you felt when you realized what you were seeing. For me the recent example is RE7. That was amazing.

Now think of leaks on X, reddit, 4chan. There are no memories. It's a total waste of a reveal. It's a total waste of a magical moment, and we don't get those moments too often with gaming these days.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
How dare you refer to him as the “Okami creator” and not the “Viewtiful Joe creator”. Shame.

Sorry, I’m just REALLY trying to will Viewtiful Joe 3 into existence these days…

I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy leaks and the speculation that comes with it, but it is still a shitty practice perpetuated by shitty people. The leakers are parasites who thrive off the attention. Kamiya speaks the truth.
I agree.

I love the leaks. I hate the leaks.

I agree in principle. But I’ll also happily indulge in it all and actively seek them out, so I guess I’m part of the problem in a way. It’s just fun to speculate about this stuff and put the pieces together.

Absolutely, that's why I said I agree on principle. It's great that stuff like Okami wasn't leaked earlier, I'm really glad about that. This whole Switch thing is just not comparable to that, Kamiya is just sticking to his principle no matter if it makes sense to be applied here, because that's what japanese do :D

Well with this attitude, no wonder japan is bankrupt.

Either japanese people start changing their attitude and change course or their economy will collapse not that its not already in shambles
Mate, the whole world is a crazy sack of shit and the Japanese are the only ones not crazy and it's them who need to change their attitude?

Nah. Let the man be mad. I guarantee you that anyone who ever had a game announcement they were excited about leak ahead of time, was fucking pissed. You think ND and Sony weren't pissed about TLOU2 leak? How is that different?

I'm not personally mad about it, but I get it. Let the man vent.

I think it's all viral marketing. C'mon man, are you really telling me that a japanese gaming accessories company like Genki, who clearly had early access to the Switch 2 design for at least a couple of months (probably like many other gaming accessory companies) and who - for sure - were under some sort of NDA, accidentally - no, deliberately - leaks a 100% correct switch 2 design alongside the logo at one of the biggest tech trade shows in the world just like that? As a japanese company of all things? Can you imagine how extremely disrespectful such a move is for a company from japan, where being respectful especially in a business environment is extremely important? Does anyone really believe the higher ups at Genki are THIS retarded?

You are talking to someone who just came back from japan buddy.

And not the first time.

This is a little overboard. For games absolutely. However, the Switch is past due for an upgrade. Even with these leaks the world offline exists and no one was checking for anything. When my nephew and mom saw the trailer today it piqued their interest (only a little because that trailer was boring as hell).

Also, leaks can happen. No one is forced to report them. Touch grass a bit, lol. People will still buy it and be tuned in for every piece of official information. Now actual games. Hell no those are the absolute worst.

Disagree personally, the leaks about the Xbone reveal, always online, etc. And Project Beasts were pretty damn legendary over here.

It’s a highly anticipated game console that Nintendo took too long to reveal. This happened because Nintendo took too long. Not only this but it went into production prior to the announcement, what did they think was going to happen.

Fairly immature response from platinum. As to be expected with the shitty games they make.

Reverse groomer.
It's just a leak bro.

Maybe if Nintendo were a bit more transparent about the progress of their new hardware nobody would have leaked shit.

Or maybe they should get better security.

remember when their games didn't use to get leaked days to weeks before launch? When everyone had all these weird speculation and ideas about what the post-Wii U system was going to be, and all of the mockups were wrong?
Nintendo has awful security now. Not the leakers fault.

The announcement itself was pretty boring.

However, people going nuts over it for the past weeks made the event bigger than what it was.

Nintendo should be grateful that they can still ignite interest in people.

However, I think making big announcements during a show like TGA or TGS works well, so spoiling those with leaks suck. But this announcement, I think the word of mouth helped it a bit.

Now we have to wait and see on April what’s actually we gonna get excited about.

Yes, because they're gonna be made into an example now, and have gained absolutely nothing in the process. I'm not gonna say retarded but it's pretty dumb..

Desperate hopes that nothing takes the wind out of Nintendo's new platform sales.

Why?

So that his mediocre Okami sequel with lackluster cartoon art style has a platform to fit in on alongside Mario Kart 8 from 2014.

He's right. It's fun to discuss the leaks and speculate on the console and what it can do, but it can never ever beat a good surprise.

I'd rather have 0 leaks and lots of surprises. Leaks have destroyed more than many people think.
I really think the crazy knee jerk reactions in the companies cause more harm than the actual leak.

It's all about the internet fame and clout. These twats aren't in it to share the excitement of a new hardware or software launch, they do it to make their little lives feel somewhat important.
For about five minutes.
