Open-World RPG Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon launches for Steam Early Access in Q4 2022

Awaken Realms Digital has announced that open-world RPG Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon will launch for Steam Early Access in Q4 2022.

Tainted Grail is something of an interesting case. A different, roguelike title - Tainted Grail: Conquest - was released in May 2021. Tainted Grail: Conquest was originally built as a separate game mode for The Fall of Avalon, serving as a testing environment for the developers. However, it soon became a full game of its own. More details from the developers can be found in the Steam forum thread.

The world of Tainted Grail is a gritty, dark reimagination of Arthurian legends — an epic dark fantasy setting in which humans arrived at the cursed island of Avalon in search of paradise, only to find a hellish land tainted by the Wyrdness — a mysterious force warping the reality in a chaotic manner.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is an open-world RPG full of complex quests in which your decisions matter and your choices are respected. A vast world full of monsters, fallen heroes, and exciting places to discover. It will offer a dark storyline that will require players to balance the shades of gray and no good answers — paired with great freedom granted to the player and plenty of possible choices.
King Arthur is dead and all the myths and legends are falling – humans living at Avalon are desperately trying to find new ways of life and things to believe in. The plague of Red Death and the spreading of the Wyrdness are not helping. The time is running out and multiple factions have their own plan for the future of the island…

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is a reimagination of the board game published under the same name. It was the most successful Kickstarter campaign of 2018 — funded at over $6,2M — and the game is held in high regard by the board gaming community (currently at the 80th place of best board games of all time as voted by the community of Board Game Geek).

Pretty sure microsoft word has an autofill feature for when you're pitching game ideas

The card game is good (if saddled with poor performance), but that trailer isn't doing anything for me. Awkwardly moving through so-so environments with jerky FPS camera movement is not the way to go.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon has a dark, gripping atmosphere which descended onto the Future Games Show, revealing gameplay from Awaken Realms Digital's open-world RPG, which is coming to Steam Early Access in Q4 2022.

Heavy inspiration from TES games, but if it nails it, why not? I will be certain to follow this, and read impressions.

"If you are wondering if anything significant changed since the last patch… yup! This is almost like a new, shiny game :D Our whole team has worked tirelessly to get to this point and the game is looking and most importantly playing AMAZING!

Once again, pretty much every aspect of the game should be better (from slight upgrades to HUGE changes). Below, you can find some examples:

  • Completely new prologue, with 2 new mini-bosses, many more NPCs, and new content to discover
  • Much more content in Act 1 (quests, dungeons, enemies, loot)
  • New character creation
  • Revamped & upgraded crafting (blacksmithing, alchemy, cooking)
  • Revamped magic (much more dynamic, fluid, and satisfying)
  • Totally revamped summoning (summons now block your max mana)
  • Upgrades in the feeling of close combat
  • TONS of new items to find and use
  • Revamped Attributes and Skills system (more flexibility for build crafting and more useful perks)
  • Completely revamped and polished UI
  • Totally revamped Wyrdnight (new visuals and improved in terms of balance)
  • New systems: sketchbooks, farming, house, pet
  • ADDED ROMANCE
  • Added Photo Mode
  • Entirely revamped and upgraded gameplay balance, including combat
  • Added "finisher" moves
  • Added boss mini cut-scenes
  • Added TONS of new soundtrack
  • Overall lighting overhaul in the open world
  • New, better weather effects
  • Added a lot of new NPCs and quests
  • Added shrines in the open world
  • Added story interactions in the fireplace
  • Added guilds and their questlines
  • Added new weapon types: Spears
  • …and a lot of smaller & bigger things here and there (we could be going for ages :D)."
This is what a deep rpg looks like not the joke that is Avowed or AC shadows

I played the demo a few months back, but it didn't feel good. Has the demo been updated to this new patch?

I did notice the price got a big increase since then, too, as they get ready for release. It was around £22 in the bundle with the other Tainted game I already own, but now it's over £34. I only have the demo impressions, but back then £22 felt a bit steep, never mind £34, as I definitely wasn't grabbed by the game at all. Not trying to sound like a tight ass either, it just felt like a slightly higher quality asset flip or something.

I'll try the demo again and see if it's updated and edit my post.
