In 2011, it took Sony a full week to admit that 77 million users data was compromised.

Many voiced criticism that it took Sony a week to tell people that the breach resulted in the exposure tons of personal info including usernames, physical addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, passwords, and financial details such as credit card info.

Given this, let's do some betting! How long until Sony comes clean about their most recent incident?

They don't owe us anything outside of what they're legally obligated to.

The arguments will be the same as this thread.

I think if there was customer data exposed, then they are legally obligated to inform, not sure after how long though
in the past, some companies have revealed this information years down the road saying it only recently came to their attention

although I think delays in the 1 week to 1 month range are more common, but still horrible. Equifax took a month I believe in 2017, and that impacted over 100 million people.

that's literally what I'm asking. how long will they drag their feet knowing they'll eventually likely need to say something, especially if there was a breach?

their past indicates 1 week, but it could be longer based on how some other major companies handled it more recently

They probably won't say anything.
If nothing that they are legally obliged to disclose happened they can just wait a few days for the gaming side of the Internet to find something else to be outraged about.

Doesn't Avowed come out in a few days? That's going to be a culture wars and console wars battleground for a couple of days.

And you have your answer, regardless of your hypothetical of a hypothetical.

Unless there are compliance or PII issues, they're not obligated to say why. If it was a config issue that caused it to go down, it doesn't negatively affect you in the same way 77 million users had their information compromised affected you.
