Well, I just tried overclocking my Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0GHz) with a FSB of 333 and the multiplier set at like 14. I had it all the way up to 2.3GHz! Of course, it wouldn't get past the post screen and when I was in bios it started displaying funny characters, like smiley faces next to options.

I now have it at 2700+ speeds, but who knows how stable this is gonna be. Voltage is a bit high, but I'm afraid to take it down (less stability.)

As of right now, temps are at 104F/40C (CPU socket) 131F/55C (CPU diode) and 96 (case). A little hot... but the 2400+ T-Bred has a maximum heat tolerance of 185F/85C, surprisingly!

I took my XP 1700+ up to a 1800.... fuck yeah...

For those who want to know my secret, I changed the multiplier from 11.... wait for it.... 11.5

My 2500XP is running at 3200XP just fine on stock cooling since the cores are supposedly the same. (AKA Celeron 350 just a masked down P3 450 )

I changed the stock cooling just in case. Runs just like a 3200 XP at 41 C idle and 53 C max.

EDIT: 85 C heat tolerance?? Doesn't convince me at all. As soon as that sucker goes past 60/65 C I bring it down. I can't afford a new cpu is I fry this one.

I just installed my new cooler and bumped my Barton 2500XP back to a 3200. Running good so far, it averages 45c.

my P4 2.4B wont post past 3.2 and isnt really stable at 3.1 (the gig of ram is holding it back, runs good with only 512).. at 3.0 it hums along great though, but get jealous lookin at all those 2.4Cs hitting ridiculous numbers. maybe time for water coolin

also got my axp1700+ (11x133) to 11x160.. pretty good bump

I used to run an 1800+ (default 1533mhz) at 2400mhz, whilst pushing 1.825 volts through it, this was with an FSB of 200 and with tight timings on the RAM also. It was benchable at these speeds.

This was when I used to run a watercooled setup

Wow.

I underclocked this back down to its original settings because it was getting too hot (56-62C), which is well below the max. heat tolerance, but it still made the room hotter.

A couple nights ago I underclocked this thing all the way down to 866MHz. Surprisingly, performance was still very good. Except UT2004 ran at like 10fps.

Hahaha, underclocking, that's a classic, I don't see the point personally, other than for shits and giggles.

Of course it's for shits and giggles. But so is overclocking this thing to 2300MHz and seeing smiley faces in the cmos setup (because the CPU can't function properly at that speed.)

But yeah like I said, Athlon's are really good CPU's... even at 866MHz programs start almost as fast as they did at 2GHz.

That's surprising that programs respond just as well at 866mhz, yeah the athlons are a decent chip, although I've left them behind now, running on a P4 2.8c now.

also, 2300mhz is possible to game in, I did it with the setup I mentioned above

How do I take pictures and host them with CPU-Z?

My mobile 2400 does 2.4 ghz (12 X 200) with air cooling @ 1.7 volts. That is with overclocked PC2700 RAM too. I might be able to push it higher once I get my 1 gig dual channel ram.


I average between 35-42 idle (Depending on the outside weather. It is summertime here so when it gets hotter outside my temps raise too ), and between 42-49 on high load. I actually tested this on a 90 degree humid day. My CPU never hit above 49C after an hour of playing.

I have a Intel Northwood P4 2.4ghz with 512Mb RDRAM and ATI9700. I'd love to overclock the processor it just a little...maybe to 2.53 or so....just to play with it. Can someone tell me how to do so? BTW, it's a Dell system...
