It appears all we want for Christmas is COD, as Activision scoop the festive No1 with ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’(+2%).

In taking top spot it becomes the first title in 2012 to hold the No1 crown for a stunning six consecutive weeks. It also ensures that with the exception of ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’, which claimed the title in 2011 either an Activision or EA title has been top at Christmas for the last decade.

Big retailer promotions weren’t enough to see Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 3’(+86%) make it to the top but it climbs from No5 to No2. Square Enix’s ‘Hitman Absolution’ (+1%) rounds off the Top 3 this Christmas ahead of EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ (+15%) which drops to No4. Ubisoft ensure they’re well represented in the Top 10 with ‘Just Dance 4’ (+7%) holding the No5 spot while ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (+7%) slips to No7 spot. In between the pair EA make it two titles in the Top 10 with ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’ (+27%) climbing two places to No6. It means Microsoft’s ‘Halo 4’ (+7%) slips down a place to No8. The last two spots are unchanged with ‘Lego The Lord of the Rings’ (-8%) and ‘WWE ‘13’ (-25%) staying at No9 and No10 respectively for the third week running.

I did say weeks ago that the 'Mario' name and Layton would do enough to just keep the 3DS ticking over during the holidays

NintendoLand's sales also give us some indication of the hardware's sales - especially considering how reception of the Basic hasn't seemed strong anywhere.

NintendoLand's sales also give us some indication of the hardware's sales - especially considering how reception of the Basic hasn't seemed strong anywhere.

Deluxe with NL accounts for 60% of bundles (if I remember right from some previous PR) - with ZombiU bundle at 30% and basic at 10%

More than Wii U, it's incredible how 3DS is really not selling in UK.
Luckily, it's selling ok in France, Germany and Italy.

I have a feeling it's selling quite a bit more than just "ok" in those countries, seeing how high NSMB2 is in those countries. Especially considering how the last European charts released by Nintendo showed how much UK isn't as relevant as it would have been in the past, at least for handheld sales.

Wii U was around 60-70k estimated up to last week, not sure how many Nintendoland sold this week though.

The estimates remain a little tenuous since there are a lot of variables that remain unknown (standalone NL sales, changes in proportions for SKUs, how limited edition the ZombiU bundle was etc.). That being said, it dropped a couple places on the value chart, but not a lot, so the units may be similar this week as last.

such a shame for sonic all stars racing. Only hope left is for the 3DS version when they finally get it out.

It's 15 in the all formats chart but none individual must be either some low ass nymbers at the bottom of the individual chart or the splits for sonic racing are pretty even

I think people would be surprised by the 3DS numbers. Unfortuantly we dont get to see them but i wouldn't be shocked if they are pretty damn good,

Yeah they're definitely not the most reliable of hardware numbers, but I guess it's the best we've got until (if) we get any official numbers. Estimate was around 9,000 last week, so if it's around that this week then probably 69,000 - 79,000 sales so far.

Actually everything brings me to believe 3DS is selling like hot pancakes, also thanks to NSMB2 - and Mario3DLand -, also Paper Mario is being advertised a lot around and a lot of children are going to receive a 3DS as a Christmas present these days.

When we had 3DS numbers in UK in the XL week (bad bad XL debut in 1/2 days) and then the overall European numbers (pretty good with no NSMB2 at launch) we officially had a first sign of UK revelancy in the European picture now, at least for portable gaming devices. And, not considering UK, 3DS is present in almost all other top 10 ( even top 5), even in most of the Nordic countries, historically not that interested in portables, since DS didn't do that well there neither.

EDIT: And 3D Land and MK7 are both indications for the hardware now, due to bundles.

Looking at the charts from last week, I only see one 3DS game in most of 'em (NSMB2). The hardware might be selling well but I see no reason to suspect the software is.

I dont think you are using relevancy right there, UK is still the biggest single market in EU. If you're not doing well there then it is you who are losing relevency not them.

I'm not saying Nintendo is doing well in UK at all, I even asked last week the reasons why Nintendo is facing so many difficulties in this specific country. But at the same time we also know about the overall picture in Q3 and, at least in the 3DS XL week, the UK sales represented a much smaller share compared to the past launches.

Yes but that would mean that Nintendo is losing relevancy in the UK not that the UK is losing relevancy in EU

The Cheap Arse Gaffer thread is quite an interesting read alongside these weekly threads. Take a look in that one and you should get all the answers you need for this one.

Looking at the charts from last week, I only see one 3DS game in most of 'em (NSMB2). The hardware might be selling well but I see no reason to suspect the software is.

Aside from the fact I've noticed that some 3DS games have been in the top ten charts of some big countries these weeks - France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands -, I admit it's mostly gut feeling and some anedoctal evidence on my part: last week I happened to pass a couple hours inside a big retail store - Saturn, the equvalent of British Dixons or Currys - and I saw many shoppers specifically looking around for a 3DS for their children - incidentally also my 5yo nephew does own a 3DS himself with all main Mario installments -, so I gather this could be a trend going on elsewhere.

By the way I have a hunch that in early 2013 Nintendo will provide some official numbers for 3DS sales, at least in the countries where it's passed some significant milestones, e.g. I wouldn't be surprised at all if 3DS reached the 2 million consoles sold in France alone by early 2013.

As for Wii U, it's another issue entirely, and I have a gut feeling it's not selling nearly as good as 3DS, albeit it may have been selling a little better last week.

Neither Media Create nor Famitsu charts reflect mobile and social gaming, which is quite big in Japan (and it became popular way earlier than in the West).

We're still the biggest market in the EU. Point being we're not losing relevance just because we don't buy much Nintendo stuff.
