I wish they'd ask him more specific questions - questions that pin him down. For instance, "Are you planning to keep any games exclusive to Xbox/PC hardware, or will they all eventually show up on Playstation?" Instead, they ask him general, open-ended questions that allow him to just use general, vague feel-good phrasing.
"Put the games first" (and so ship to other platforms) is one of those phrases. It sounds so noble, so gamer-friendly, so "pro-consumer." But what it really means is "Put games' revenue first" (and so ship to other platforms). Hide the need for profit, pretend it's all about serving the games and the gamers. What a nice fellow.
Your mistake is seeing them as journalists and not what they are mouthpiece platforms for Microsoft PR.
Why would Microsoft PR want to "pin" down Spencer?
Everything that Microsoft showed at the Xbox Dev Direct was coming to PS5 with the exception of South by Midnight, which probably doesn't even warrant a port just like Redfall. Every single title, even the one they claimed they're publishing in Ninja Gaiden 4. Imagine Sony publishing Rise of the Ronin on Xbox. It would never happen.
All of these games are coming to PS5 as soon as the dev pipeline catches up. Those already working on PS5 games are obviously going to get there quicker than those who weren't.
The most interesting thing is going to be Halo and whether they port MCC or remake Halo CE and how long does it take to come out.
Microsoft would rather it come out after GTA6, but that could also result in a really bad fiscal year of simple declines and while Xbox isn't the focus of Microsoft shareholders after the ABK purchase, you can bet their stock will slide as a result. Do you think Microsoft wants to lose potentially billions in stock price vs the maybe 1-2 million Xboxes that will sell because of GTA6 but might not if people know Halo is going to PS5? The reason why Phil Spencer did this video is because they're going to announce Halo for PS5. My guess within the next 3 months, 6 if we're being conservative, but it could be much sooner.
Microsoft had their business update February 15th 2024 and they started releasing games on PS5 a week later with Pentiment... Feb 22nd... We already know Indiana Jones is releasing on PS5 in April and then Doom in May. If Halo MCC is coming out, my guess is it will drop in the summer and avoid CoD and GTA6. I still think we're more likely looking at a Halo CE remake that comes out next year built in Unreal Engine, but it could go either way.
