This could be a huge blow to the Xbox camp if true. I thought PS2 was annoucned to be out after Fiscal year 2006 (ie march 2007)

The EB CEO sounded a bit more optimistic for the xbox camp than you do.

probably just more speculation. Gamespot is simply going with a widely expected release time for PS3. it's been expected PS3 launches in Japan around March 2006, which would be a few months after the U.S. release of Xbox Next in late 2005, if indeed that happens.

Xbox 2: Nov. 2005 (US), March 2006 (Europe), Fall 2006 (Japan)
PS3: March 2006 (Japan), Fall 2006 (US), Early 2007 (Europe)

A top guy at Sony said Fiscal 2006. Makes me wonder why Gamespot isnt stating this. I'm not bashing the Xbox, I'm just asking who is right.
