Rumor: Microsoft plans price increase for Game Pass in March 2025; Update: Not a global change, see updated OP

READ:

Breaking news: Microsoft is planning a new price increase for Game Pass subscriptions, and the change is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2025.

The information has already been transferred to official stores and resellers, and the change will affect all regions where the service is available, constituting a global change.

Details of the price increase

Although the new prices have not yet been announced, information from retailers indicates that the adjustment will affect all versions of the service, including Game Pass Console, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate.

The latter, which offers access to both console and PC games, as well as other benefits, will probably be one of the plans most affected by the change.

With the increase scheduled for March 2025, Microsoft is taking an important step in its long-term strategy for Xbox Game Pass.

and the original poster he's replying to deleted their tweet. Shocking. Regardless, where is some random brazil website coming from? It's like "verifying" a rumor with a rumor. Who knows but how about waiting til March to post this thread. These rumors and leaks every day get really tiring.

thread title : "extas1s: "According to a Brazilian news website, Gamepass is Increasing its price again for all tiers on March 1st""
then extas1s literally posted in that thread: bro that ain't my news

these "leaks" are such a shit show nowadays

The Call Duty tax will be endless. Someone has to pay for this, theres no escaping from this.

Id rather just buy Doom and keep it on Steam. Gamepass would unironically be better if they didn't do day 1 releases and it was half the price.

I almost stopped my subscription from the last increase. I'll be stopping it this time around. I'd rather buy the games than pay 25 a month. 15 a few years ago felt like a good deal to me

Gamepass is now expected to become a profitable venture on it's own, Microsoft has largely realized that it can't be the disruptive growth factor it used to think it is, and has started squeezing blood out of those ~30m stones a while ago.

Ffs they just upped the price not that long ago.

Its like instead of doubling the price in one go, theyre upping it 30-50% several times in a year

You will own nothing & you will like it.

It's not like people will cancel their subscriptions & give up the game collection they built up over the years

Canceling my sub when it runs out in March. Not worth it anymore. No subscription service is worth it anymore. Just a bunch of bloodsucking vampires at this point.

Haven't had it for two months, luckily my lad hasn't moaned about it (The only reason I had it for a couple of years..)

Haven't missed it one bit.

Zero need for it on PC. Raise away MS.

Not ideal but I'm still getting a ton of value out of it lately. If I have to pay like $9 instead of $8 it's no big deal.

Other than Nintendo consumers, almost nobody owns games anymore. Even Nintendo is only like 50% physical.

Release all the games on Playstation...and then raise the price of Game Pass. What an odd decision.
It is trully baffling the decision making in play if their plan is to still keep people invested in the xbox ecosystem...whatever the hell is left of it anyway.

Why would you choose an Xbox over PS or PC at this point?

Genuine question.

I don't know if this particular source is reliable but this outcome is absolutely predictable and inevitable.
If there is no way to significantly increase subscribers even with games like COD, the only option is to increase prices progressively to make the same people pay more and to reduce investements in making deals for day one contents.
Internally their focus is about being a world leading multiplatform publisher, Gamepass is probably already considered a thing of the past they have to keep alive and make it work in some way to not lose face.

Get used to it. These hikes are about to come at a predictable pace for the next several years.

Gamepass needs to pay its way. The price of activitision put a spotlight on it and now the boardroom is giving it a lot of attention

I think Game Pass has made me more selective. As tempting as it is to buy it so you can try a game out, its better in the long term to just buy the best ones so you can play them whenever you want without a subscription.
