SCEA: Layoffs Were Overblown

There's always anti-Sony hate when they release new consoles. Yet they always prevail in the end (or at least the two times they've had home console launches).

No one's trying to make light of people losing their jobs. The point is it actually turned out to be much fewer people losing their jobs than originally thought.

Because obviously people are NEEEVER laid off anywhere else.

lol @ the entirely over dramatic responses to this layoff. I didn't see any of you guy's posting on GMC forums in the last decade, rofl, so why the serious sense of high morality?

Did you even read the article? The article talks about the number of people that were laid off was exagerated. It wasn't about the importance of the event or anything like that. The "overblown" statement was made up by the OP.

I read the article. What are you crying over? This article is basically saying, "It wasn't 80-100, but only 50 or so." The amount is negligible. There isn't a point in minimizing this. The enormity is still the same, someone lost their job.

MEDIA: "BREAKING!! SONY LAYS OFF ALL EMPLOYEES!! PHIL HARRISON TO ASSEMBLE ALL PS3 BY HAND!!"

Sony: Um it more like <50........

MEDIA: "THIS JUST IN, SONY LIES AGAIN!!! ALSO MGS4 ON 360? ITS MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THINK!"

Sony:....................................

This should not be about the console war...

To folks that have lost there jobs at SCEA this week. You have my sympathy. It doesn't really matter if it's 50 or 100. It's still a terrible incident for the individuals and their familys concerned.

What? Kotaku got their facts wrong? Is hell freezing over?

It just sounds like damage control to me, I can see sony laying off 50 people now to not trigger the WARN act then laying off another 50 people later in the year.

Except we have to remember you are running a business. You cannot give people heads up before they are laying off because they might steal/damage/expose company property.

Its part of competition. I am sure they got pretty good severance packages.

But it figures you would say this.
