I'm in, but why the health bars though? Ah, in game upgrade currency.

Thats too bad if its going to be a level check game of sorts, but its a new Shinobi.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
It looks overly focused on combat rather than the one-two hit kills the series has typically been about. I dunno. It looks like just another indie action platformer, but I like shinobi and am willing to give it a shot.

I still think it’s a shame they never did anything with the ps2 shinobi/nightshade formula - still such fun games to go back and play.

Not a fan of the "cool looking" asthetic for Shinobi. It works well on SoR, but Shinobi was aways a more serious toned game.

Btw my favorite Shinobi game is both Revenge and 3.

Revenge

And I love 3. But Revenge finally overtook it a few years ago.

Revenge is just brilliant and methodical. Its level design is outlandish. I beat the game once or twice every year on the Mini. Its that good. Fuck the last level but once you know what doors to take its not that bad, and after many tries you know. This game has the fucking terminator, Spider man and Batman as bosses.

3 is more straightforward, and very easy. In fact I normally didn't even use Ninjitsu in this game. You have much more life, much more tools and there are less to no pitfalls. The gameplay is more versatile, but it requires less timing and less knowledge of enemy placements. You can do running slashes, kicks etc. You just run through, which is opposite of Revenge. Which as I said, has perfect design. You need to be good at that game, no way around it.

Giving health to foes was a bad ideia. Not to mention Street of Rage 4 combo system is total trash, kill the purpose of a beat-up game and transform into a fightning game instead.

I don't really care for the art style but if the gameplay is Shinobi that's good enough for me. As for the poll, Revenge of Shinobi is my favorite but Shadow Dancer is running very close behind.

Looks fire, but I'm probably not dropping 40 dollars or more on this game. It would be a nice monthly PS+ game or a cheapo 15-20 dollar game.

I would love to see a collab between Sega, Capcom, and Koei Tecmo bringing together Shinobi + Strider + Ninja Gaiden... surprised that's never happened. A game starring Joe Musashi, Strider Hiryu, and Ryu Hayabusa the 3 most legendary ninja in gaming history...

edit: looks like they want 30 for it with an early pre-order discount at least on Steam, crazy how this isn't available for pre-order or wishlist on ps store despite the rather larger presence during the SoP.

Those healthbars... I can see some enemies needing more hits to die, but the pawns should be a hit kill

This is a policy I feel a lot more devs should follow. Instead of asking for my money beforehand by offering me a digital artbook I don't give a fuck about, give me a 25%-30% discount. This makes me willing to pre-order and support you.

I hope next time they show a complex room or something, a couple of spinning wheels to dash through and a laser is too basic for what movement I'm used to from similar games now.

Not my favorite art direction, but Streets of Rage 4 was undeniably top-tier SEGA game.

Meanwhile, fake pixel-art is so over for me. Either be authentic like Megaman 9 or Sonic Mania, or just don't. Definitely glad 3D Ninja Gaiden is back too, because this wouldn't excite me, while Shinobi is better off 2D imo.

Yep i'd rather they would just take the assets of Shinobi 3 and make a game out of that. Much like Sonic Mania, which did have some added graphical effects making it sort of entering the 32x realm. It looked genuine.

From the devs of SOR4 which I fuckin' loved to death and wondered to this day where's the goddamn 5th one already? Oh, well now I get WTF they were doing all this time...

Is the game actually smooth playing like an old Shinobi game?

Or is the game going to filled to the brim with all these cinematic stuttering attacks when you do a combo or special move?

I remember all the bitching and moaning about how SoR4 looked, and it turned out to be an insane entry in the series. I’ll happily look forward to this as well.

SoR4 played a lot like the original games with an expanded move list. You dished out fixed damage.

This Shinobi has nothing of the methodical gameplay. It has lifebars and in game upgrades so if I were to guess I think its going to be more of an equipment check game. The deluxe edition hands out a handful of this currency. I guess it worked for Strider 2013 which I really ended up liking a lot so idk.

I’m still skeptical of the final feel of the game overall. But I’m more than willing to give it a chance, as long as everything feels good to play.

A purely fast skill based arcade style game like the OG and Shadow Dancer wouldn’t fly with todays audience so I’ll probably skip this reboot.

I already bought the deluxe edition. SoR4 eclipses every previous Shinobi game. These are very technical developers who understand beat em ups down to the specific frames for each attack. As technical as fight game devs. Cant wait to see them tackle and action platformer like this. SoR4 won GOTY for me that year.

Looks like crap. Since when was shinobi all about flashy sword attacks? Never.. that's when.. 👎

Totally agree. It fits well on SoR because thats a brawler. Shinobi is nothing like that since most of enemies die in one to 2 hits. Even Shinobi 3 moves aren't exactly flashy cool, they are more in line with swift attacks of a shinobi.
