The iPhone 4S offers better camera specs than previous iPhones, but does it capture better-looking stills and videos than the best Android phones? Let’s find out.

i'm an android fanboy and all, but does a .7 difference really even mean anything?

call me when galaxy nexus drops the .8+ megaton

I can't be the only one who assumed the Android Elite was a new phone. If it isn't it will be in a few weeks.

None of this matters because it wouldn't stop people from choosing the iPhone 4s or any other iphone upgrade even if Apple informed its customers that they put a spec of cow dung inside each handset.

I would like to inform you that costumers don't just buy stuff. They buy it because they either like it or heard it was good. People are not going to recommend something that is in their view bad and because of that it will sell poorly, even for Apple. Just take a look at their recent try with the iPod Shuffle. Removing those buttons where the dumbest thing they could have ever done and they acknowledged that. Pretty soon they we're back to having buttons on that thing.

yes. not to tout androids superiority, but to bring apple fanboys back to reality when they start talking about iphone best this iphone best that.

it's still pretty crazy to think that like within the 4-5 years how much phones have come along. i mean in gaming we like "hurr hurr we want consoles to be the hub of the living room", but its amazing how really it's the phone that has become that, kinda.

You make a cogent point, some one said that the phone has become our exo brains and have by extension become part of how we remember.

I did a quick comparisons of number of instances found with catarl+F on the engadget article for the names of the phones being compared just to prove myself right.

Yup.

And they liked they gave the crown to 4S.

Actually, they didnt. They pretty much speak only about the 4S in that article and do next to no comparisons in the text at all. They stopped once during the article and say

Apple's iOS may offer one of the simplest camera interfaces, but it's by no means the most powerful. Want manual control over exposure, white balance and ISO sensitivity? The Galaxy S II, Nokia N8 and Amaze 4G let you do it all with just a few taps. Overall, we were most often pleased with photos we shot with the iPhone 4S, despite its lack of advanced features. Exposure and white balance were most accurate with Apple's finest, and images were plenty sharp on their own, though not as sharp as those from the Amaze 4G, which appears to add sharpening by default

Then they talk about the battery where 4S fell short of other phones, they almost stray away from the comparisons actually. Then after the article was posted and people questioned the suspiciously terrible quality of their example photos from their Nokia N8 (which should and does absolutely murder every other phones camera out there) they appended this to the article:

Update: Images from the Nokia N8 are not in line with those we've captured in the past. We're troubleshooting our device sample and will update this post accordingly.

Yeah...... that doesn't sound like a crowning of the 4S's camera at all. Not even a little bit if you actually read the article. It reads like the 4S has a great camera that they were plenty satisfied with, but not the overall best. Which is the same thing a lot of other sites are saying.

I don't even have a phone right now but the Galaxy SII looked better than everything in almost every test.

Nokia phones take great photos, iPhones make it extremely easy to take great pictures.

wah

I did a test with my iPhone 4 vs my dads Galaxy S2 and it definitely took better stills in my personal comparison. Interesting to see that even the 4S is lagging behind.

Didn't look like they compared anything, just spoke about the 4S. But based on the actual comparison photo's, i'd say the S2 takes the crown. Quite a few shots where there's more detail with the S2 over the 4S.

Battery life left us slightly less impressed, however. After about two hours of wandering around town, shooting several dozen photos and about 10 minutes of HD video with each device, the iPhone 4S had just 30 percent of battery left. Its predecessor, the iPhone 4 offered much better performance in the battery department, finishing the shoot with 52 percent remaining, even though we also used that device to check email multiple times and make several phone calls. Despite its enormous 4.3-inch AMOLED display, the Galaxy SII took top prize, with 53 percent left when we returned to the office, while the Nokia N8 had 50 percent remaining. And what about HTC's new Amaze 4G? Our around-town photo session wasn't nearly as kind on that smartphone's battery, with just 29 percent left at the end of the shoot.
D'OH, QUALCOMM'D AGAIN!

Yes they did. Read your own quote. Selective bolding ftl.

Regardless, I pretty much said upstream that I'd rather have a dpreview do the comparison rather than reading every tom, dick and harry's comparison "reviews".

I like that I knew who'd 'won' the battle before I even opened the topic. Nice one Copernicus ;)

It's actually the title of the article, heh, my contribution of |OT| was removed by a power hungry mod.
