It’s happening with all the developers and I think it’s because all games are starting to go to every platform and be ambiguous so by them just using a generic launcher to launch the game they’re not able to capture your data which is what they want so they have a generic launcher which launches into them where they can capture your data for marketing, etc. etc.

Yeah downloading CP2077 without any online functionality and updates sure seems like a great idea. Why couldn't they include this "cross save" stuff in the original GOG launcher? This is just stupid but I am not surprised to see someone defend it.

Because the cross-save software is the same across all platforms the game appears on in order to make it work by standardizing it, while the GOG launcher appears on PC only...

Games have been asking for anonymous data collection for years and they haven't needed launchers to do so

I start GOG to play Cyberpunk on my new 5090. GOG IS a launcher. In fact it is CDPR's own LAUNCHER with its own account system. Launching the game from this launcher launches another launcher that might actually allow me to finally launch the fucking game??? And the new launcher asks me to create a new account to log in? So we put a launcher into your launcher and an account into your account????!!!!!

CDPR is cooked, this is Ubisoft tier of idiocy.

GOG's launcher allows you to pull in all PC launcher games, which is kind of cool. But yeah, this isn't the only game that requires this.

IDK if you can do it on GOG, but for the 2k games that were "QOL" updated to have a launcher like the Bioshock remastered games on steam you can set a custom launch option to skip the 2k launcher. Probably something similar on GOG.

I miss the good old days of no launchers. Allow me to open DOS and type C:/Run/Doom.exe then watch everything compile for 10 mins while my HDD screeches.
