SIE is going hard on these Asian events, while completely ignoring Gamescom, lol.
Hope we FINALLY have a date for Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside there.

Best have a better screening process to avoid another Project Boundary incident where the game got cancelled.

Trying WAY too hard.

Not even trying to be subtle with your bullshit.

Without googling.

Tell me the titles of those 5 China Hero Project games Sony showed at their Showcase?

Gamescom would happen before the September Showcase and Pro reveal, so Sony wouldn't be able to exhibit much there. TGS happens afterwards and they'll have a presence at that event.

China Joy does also happen before the Showcase, but that's a bit more unique since it specifically features games from that one region so it makes sense why Sony would be there to play up their Hero projects.

Not all those were from CHP, but I do remember Where Winds Meet, Marvel Rivals and Infinity Nikki (which actually looked neat).

Is ChinaJoy a takeout restaurant? I swear I saw a restaurant named China Joy in Jacksonville not long ago.

Marvel Rivals isnt part of CHP....its a NetEase game.
NetEase is already big enough to NOT need CHPs help.

Then, they're not even 5?

I dont know I couldnt tell you and one of the rules was to NOT google it.
It could have been one for all i know, but i believe it was more than one, they just all blended together.

Granted some of their more unique looking China Hero Project games actually look legit.

Well, I thought you did in the first place. :p
hahaha nope.
I forgot the title(s) as soon as the trailer(s) ended.
I just hoped someone on GAF was keeping track and would give me a reason to be excited for this event.

It was so bad I actually forgot to google the 4K versions of said trailer(s) to see release dates because I forgot if I had seen them at the showcase last year or the state of play this year.........or on twitter and googling Chinese Playstation Game gets me so many wrong results I just stopped doing it.

Sonys input with the China Hero Project really should be "how to make your game stand out" because I know for a fact a bunch of CHP games are gonna fly right over my head because ill forget I was ever excited for them, because ill see a new trailer for another game and assume its for that game I was excited for and miss the release date entirely.

Hell Evotinction is releasing in September...........

It's always so binary with some people. Can it be just that:

  • Gamescom is in August and they probably plan on having a showcase in September, so Gamescom would be too close to their showcase
  • Some of the games they're going to reveal or show again will be Asian developed games
  • TGS while in September will probably come AFTER their September showcase, in which case they can have games available there without having announced them at a minor event likes Gamescom
    • Maybe they'll even have PS5 Pros on hand at TGS, where they obviously wouldn't have them at Gamescom
I think we will see Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside at China Joy 2024 or at least some combination of them and the nine other China Hero Project games they're helping to produce.

I'm anticipating a rather large showcase by Sony in September, though I wish it were in August (another reason why they might not be doing gamescom). This showcase will highlight games coming out in 2025 and maybe even 2026 and the PS5 Pro enhancements of existing and future titles.

I think we'll see the release of the PS5 Pro between September and November and the anniversary edition PS5 and peripherals in early December, announced in November.

Cool. How about a showcase in North America. Thats gotta be next after these 2 announcements today, right?

It will be a worldwide September Showcase for the Pro reveal and the debut of their next wave of games. Showcases don't typically get announced until a week in advance so we'll have to wait a bit

If I'm right and there is a PS showcase in September or late August, we're not going to get an announcement for it... until September or Late August.

And it won't be "in" North America, since it's going to be virtual.

The next time they have an in person event in North America would be CES 2025 in January, but I doubt they go to it, unless they're just going to focus on PS5 Pro. They had a lot more hardware to showcase for CES 2024 with PSVR, the pulse headsets, and the portal.

I think the next big piece of PS hardware after the PS5 Pro will be a PS handheld though, but doubt we see that until maybe late next year.

Now, when you say you anticipate a rather large event, do you mean "Significant" or do you mean...

Germans/europeans should start making games at a cheaper rate then lol

Pretty sure their investments in asia are far cheaper and turn a greater profit than risking it on western markets

The early rounds of CHP were pretty great in terms of making notable and distinguished games; F.I.S.T. Anno Mutationem and Hardcore Mecha were all solid and unique, then you had In Nightmare and Boundary and the VR games Immortal Legacy and Animal Force which had varying degrees of appeal in their genre.

For some reason though the third phase had a lot of hack-and-slash / Soulslike games in either abstract sci-fi or mystical China settings (plus Lost Soul Aside and some other carryovers of comparable concepts still haven't come out.) Homogeny is an issue across gaming (Sony's first round of India Hero Project is at least a little different-looking, although that also is showing some patterns already,) but I do hope Sony digs a bit more for interesting ideas to back since that's one of the appeals of this program IMO.

Boundary isn't canceled necessarily; its publisher Skystone dropped it in the early access phase, and the developer is trying to make another run with it. That said, they must be tight on money at this point and the early period dragged on way longer than planned with limited content updates (but it did okay'ish in sales and reviews, so maybe it could bounce back it they resolve the matter and restructure for a relaunch? Or not...)
