Squid Game Season 2 - World Premiere Event LIVE

Saw there's a trans character in S2 and think that's kinda cool if it's done properly because it's not gonna be some Western virtual signaling garbage and will probably have you relate to the struggle of being poor as fuck and being on HRT. Hoping it's not just some retread despite using the same games, if it's the MC trying to break the system that'd be good enough.

1st season was pretty crap, except for one or two episodes. I mean, 6/10 and i'm being generous. Crap acting and pretty retarded all around. Immensly overated.
I expect more of the same fron this one, if i ever decide to watch it (probably not).

I don't think the first season was good, but it reminded me a lot of the anime kaiji, which was prematurely cancelled.

I remember "Alice in Borderlands" landing this pretty much perfectly. Fuck that was a good show.

Watched the entire season in one sitting, I couldn't stop!

The ending took me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting it to wrap up with a cliffhanger. I thought this was going to be the final season, so that was a nice surprise.

I think the season is incredibly strong, with no weak episodes. Episode 4, in particular, stands out as the highlight

The only thing I can’t stand about this series is the masked workers. Their overly synchronized movements and actions feel completely overdone and ultimately add nothing meaningful

Watch it if you can!

didn't know it was gonna be a split season.:(

I think the MC's plan makes no sense at all.
This is a bunch of rich people from all over the world, if he kills the 'overseer' they just replace it with the 2nd ranking guy in the order and repeat.
also episode 7 killed bunch of my favorite characters :(

There was clearly things left sort of unfinished and the last few episodes were sorta rushed. It's like a solid 7/10. But it clearly made money for Netflix so they wanted a S2 ASAP.
On the contrary, wasn't this based on a manga where it was intentionally left it open ended?

I thought they're pulling season 3 out of nowhere as a cash grab. the source material is over.

Almost finished and am really disappointed that they're mostly just spinning wheels rehashing a LOT of ideas from season one without many of the better characters or their interactions.

It's funny how this is the 3rd or 4th thread where we're discussing the latest season of this show now. I'm not trying to throw shade at anyone, it's just a convoluted mess that a potential discussion about the season is so fragmented around various threads.

For the fact that 2 season was never planned and the maker actually didn't want to make another season. It is surprisingly quite good and entertaining. At least as far as I've watched.

Feels like this guy, Lee Jin-Wook had a lot of scenes cut.

They showed him at the beginning with his daughter going to hospital and then he turned into a background character occasionally getting a quick glance until he finally got a few more lines in the last episode.

Great actor too which is a shame.

He had a great start only to vanish with seemingly his whole reason for being was the affect he had on another. One of the few I wanted to see more of.

246 isn't dead. They invested too much into his daughter and guard 11s story. She probably helps him escape and also helps him get the bone marrow from the corpses that his daughter needs.

I really wonder how they will continue this. they pulled off a really good ending in season 2, so I hope they won't ruin that with a new season.

What? They clearly ended on a cliffhanger..

We didnt even go back to the boat and the police guy there, and the fucked up captain

He didnt vanish, Im convinced he'll be back, same with the female guard.

I thought maybe the pregnant girl, was the daughter of the north korean guard lady. Considering she said "I dont have any family".

could be a nothingburger though

Forced transgenderism, weak characters, 2 episodes of trying to build up momentum.....and then a hard cut off at the end.

There was 5 years between the productions of season one and 2 and this is what they came up with. Unfinished .
But hey wait for a new season.

I had high hopes but they took it away from me.

My time is valuable. To waste it on a cliffhanger no thanks. Never again

Season 3 is already filmed and is rumoured to release in June this year.

Also the transgender was just a male actor in drag.

The trans dude was out of place.

Oh dont look at me when i kick the ball so you dont see my penis moving.

Oh i am not yet fully done. My dick is still intact.

Oh i was special forces

I know it was a male actor in drag but the message was clear

Drinker says Squid Game is not a "critique of capitalism" but more a critique of human nature.

I had read that the creator called it a critique of capitalism so I just accepted that it was that. But I'm sure Drinker would be aware that the creator said that...so now I'm wondering did the creator really say that as a direct quote or has it just been media, critics, journalists, etc interpretation?

I didn't even realize this.
And the last episode left out everyone that was hunkered down in the dorm room.

Aside from the beginning and end of the show he only got a few camera cuts without any lines, he wasn’t involved for the majority of the show. He didn’t side with any of the teams, just stood in the background.

Finished it. It was fine, not amazing or anything. Every scene showing the voting was somewhat of a waste that took up about half an episode and you knew they had to vote yes at the end anyway. Every scene on the boat was literally nothing happening the whole season. I wasn't crazy about the relay race. Mingle was pretty good, but they didn't have a game with the impact of the glass floor from season 1, which surprises me since I'm sure they had a bigger budget. The main character's arc was also not all that compelling. I thought the villain dude kind of carried the season, and there were other enjoyable side characters as well. They introduced character archetypes quickly and effectively, like an anime.

It could be a death of the author thing. The author can give his interpretation of the work but ultimately it can only be judged by the contents of the work itself, not what outside sources say about it.

Yeh the creator has talked about it.
“I wanted to write a story that was an allegory or fable about modern capitalist society, something that depicts an extreme competition, somewhat like the extreme competition of life.”
What makes you sure he’d be aware of that?

Drinker isn't known for research when it comes to what he says. Remember that he made a video a while ago where he rated an entire show without watching a single minute of it. Somehow his viewership was perfectly fine with this.

If I was a youtuber and made a video where at the beginning I stated 'I didn't watch this show at all but here's my review' and people still watched it, took the criticism seriously, and gave it likes, I would severely lower any effort I put into videos after that moment.
