I'm currently 5 hours in and just arrived in Lindblum. Anyways...

Wow, the CG isn't nearly as impressive now as it was when the game came out. I mean, the difference between this generation and the last is pretty astronomical. Still, the game looks nice enough and the art direction is top notch. I don't really have any issues with the visuals since I've never really been a graphics whore. Plus, it looks just fine for a PSX game.

The loading times for battles aren't so bad, but the frequency of them is kind of annoying. The ice cavern in particular ticked me off since I couldn't take more than 4 or 5 steps without going into battle.

I remember thinking that the writers just didn't know what the hell they were talking about anymore when I got near the end of the game the first time. I guess I want to play it again to see if I still feel that way. I'm taking my time with it and so far it's been a fun ride. The first 2-3 hours were fairly uninteresting but now I'm starting to feel more involved with the story. I've forgotten most of it since the first time I played FFIX, so it's kind of like I'm playing the game for the first time all over again.

Steiner is still an annoying prick though. That hasn't changed. And Vivi is just really likeable. Yay for FFIX.

I got rid of all my PSX games a while ago, but I've been thinking of picking this one up again. Still, I think it may be better remembered until a port or remake comes along. Knock on wood.

FF IX = maybe my favorite FF

It's not really the "best" at anything it does, and the battle system is pretty damn antiquated (intentionally), but it just has so much charm and I love the world and characters so much. If only that last boss didn't just completely come from absolutely nowhere...

FF9 is the best damn RPG ever made. It's the only FF game where I cared for the main character, and I also hated Steiner :)

Too bad FF has gone

I tried to start over FFIX, but then I stopped after the ship crashed in the beginning and started FFVII over agin, now I just got Yuffie and saved the girl on the beach. That was like 2 or 3 weeks ago though, I got distracted by Eternal Darkness, RE2 and Choas Legion. I think I've come down with a case of gaming ADD.

Also how can anyone not love "You are not alone"

Such a masterpiece.

Gameshark?...

FFVII is probably my favourite of the PSX Final Fantasies. It was the reason I bought a Playstation and it totally blew me away the first time I played it. I would play it for 5-6 hours a day as soon as I got home from school. I can't say that about many other games. It was just one of those rare experiences that I don't see being duplicated for years to come, if ever. Simply put, I loved FFVII like I would love my children. Sad eh? Ah well.

I think once I finish with FFIX, if I don't come down with gaming ADD, I'm gonna go back to VIII, and then to VII. Yay for reverse order gaming.

FFVI and FFVII is up there with the best games, but I actually prefered FFIX over FFVII.

I've played FFI, IV-X & X-2 and FFIX is the worst of them. FFI may be worse but then again I think that that's more down to its age so I'm not sure it should count as the worse.

It's a shame it had the best FF character though (Vivi). I consider the entire rest of FFIX as a serious affront to the greatness that is is Vivi.

I would forgo and FFVII sequel and anything else SE may produce for a Vivi spin-off game, on the proviso that not one of those wretched remaining cast make an appearance. It shall be Vivi, Vivi, Vivi, all through.

Nay, I much preferred FFIX to VII and VIII as it fixed some of the things those two messed up. I don't mean the setting and art style really, just the characters and their uniqueness in battle. The hero wasn't that great in it, but at least he didn't annoy me.

Vivi was the only good thing about FF IX. Remember the little Vivi dolls Square gave away when the game was released? Getting that was better than playing the game. :(

See I don't get this argunment. Why not set your characters to be unique in battle yourself. Just 'cause it's not determined for you doesn't mean you can't do it.

Yeah, FFX easily has the best ATB system of the entire series. The grid maybe should have been handled a little differently, but in terms of the speed of battle and how much fun you have just fighting various monsters...FFX can't be beat.

The information I didn't provide was how I stopped IX because I remembered everything I didn't like about it (not that there wasn't also a great deal to like) and I really only started it because I was craving VII like a madman but had sold it a long time ago like a fool. Last time I had a craving I borrowed it from a friend, but he was playing through it this time, so I traded a couple games I don't play to get it back again. This is my 4th play through the game and I only love it more each time I play it. It is a magical thing.

I still haven't tried ePSXe since I got my GeForce. My Voodoo 3 couldn't do anything on it, but I might be able to do something with it now.

Okay, let's just say that FFX had the best battle system in the history of the FF franchise. Better? :)

SantaCruZer, I was only talking about the battle system. I didn't mind the voice acting either, except for a few atrocious scenes. (i.e. "AAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!...come on, you try")
