Sucker Punch's hiring post confirms Ghost of Yotei launches this year

Shouldn't be hard.

Assassin's Creed games are bloated beyond imagination with cookie cutter time wasters and TERRIBLE combat. Not to mention stories that are just terrible. Shadows doesn't solve any of that, from what I've seen.

Ghost of Tsushima has a much better story, combat, characters, etc. than pretty much any AC game, and it respects the player's time far more.
When it comes to Shadows and AC3 (combat wasn't great, but better than in Ezio trilogy), I completely disagree. I've played most AC games and GOT as well so I can tell which has better story, combat and characters. Have you played most AC games and Shadows as well to have a legit comparison to make such claims? I won't disagree that the past trilogy of AC games was exactly how you described it, well, maybe Odyssey has way better story and characters than Origins, Valhalla and Mirage, but everything else... you're on point man, I also pointed it out in my post above.

From what I've played of Shadows so far (which is 20+ hrs based on in game playtime, not what Steam shows), it's a direct answer to all criticism the series received since Origins was launched which was again, 1000% justified, but to actually find that out you need to play the game for a while and see for yourself. Is the world huge? Yes. Did I get bored out of my mind playing the game like in Origins at the 20 hr mark? Not even close! Why? Cuz what they did with the gameplay, combat, the world, the exploration, the story setup and characters are on the next level and something past trilogy of games and Mirage simply don't have, well, again, it looks like Odyssey has good story, characters and dialogue system, but I'm not going to play that game (even though I bought Gold edition during sale) cuz everything else (except setting) is really bad.

I’ve played enough Ass Creed games to know they are never strong when it comes to story and combat. I seriously doubt Shadows bucks that trend to any significant degree, many reviewers do not think so

Many reviews are wrong. Time and time again I come to realizations, that you should never trust reviews and people on YT to tell you what you should think (there's some exceptions, but extremely few).

Play the game yourself (if you have the means right now, if not, then during a sale) or at least see what other people have to say after playing it (we have plenty of them in the OT) without strict embargo dates they have to hit and let audience hear what it wants to hear to give you clics, likes and subs.

GoT was my game of the year when it released but Shadows is better overall imo. Let's see if Yotei takes back the crown.

I usually trust Skill Up on certain games and genres and he says it has all the same flaws. If you like AC, you’ll like Shadows.

I haven’t liked an AC game since AC2, the peak of the series …so I’ll pass unless it’s free on ps plus in the future or deep sale.

I expect GoY, like GoT, will be far better execution

Is this also a joke? You’re really committing to the gag. I’m enjoying Shadows quite a bit but gameplay wise I’m not even sure it beats Rise of the Ronin. It does in graphics for sure. Ghost is still the best.
This. The combat in Shadows is the typical poor, clunky, janky AC combat. I don't think a few flashy executions are enough to compensate for it. The combat in Ghost of Tsushima just flows beautifully in comparison. Also, the stealth in Shadows is even more of a joke than it was in Star Wars Outlaws which I didn't think was possible.

As someone that got Ghost Of Tsushima day 1 and got Shadows day 1, trust when I'm telling you this....you are missing out.

This is not a situation where picking sides or avoiding one of the games or something gets you some better thing lol

How AC2 did or those other titles is irrelevant to Shadows. Ghost simply doesn't do what Shadows is doing to even suggest its doing it "better", sir, its not even doing a massive amount of features in this game.

Boat travel
Weather system / seasonal system
The enemy ai understanding light, shadow, taking out lights to interact with the ai to hide yourself ala Splinter Cell
The enemy ai understanding sound, like raining covering your sounds so you can run, but in snow you can be heard faster, but less visibility
Going prone at will, allow for different ways to navigate the game, ability to stealth kill from prone, ability to stealth kill from under water
etc

Shadows simply has a deeper complex system on how you interact with the game, to a level that Ghost doesn't even come close to matching, Ghost is literally closer to Onimusha, then something like AC Shadows.

I'm not telling you anything regarding story or anything like this, I'm telling you factually those features do not exist in Ghost, that would make sense to exist in such a game to add a level of complexity to engage in the title to the fullest degree. I don't see any benefit in missing out on something like this if you like Samurai and Ninja type games.

Playing Ghost is not going to get me anything like what I'm getting in Shadows currently, as in I'm not using a grappling hook to jump from one area to another while doing a dive assassination and then going prone to cut off someone's ankle lol

Instead of discussing the release windows people here are inventing another strawman army to valiantly fight for no particular reason whatsoever.

My guess? With DS2 this summer GoY will slip to early September. Everything this year will be dictated by GTA VI release date.

Those features aren’t the core of what I’m looking for, the combat, story, and world exploration are.

Maybe they’re a big deal to you but they’re not to me.

Yeah unfortunately this is shadows problem. I played it for 30 hours and l love the weather effects, seasonal changes, the vegetation and environment, but the combat is the core gameplay, which GoT did miles better. Switching between stances mid battle and having access to all abilities without going into the menu like in shadows is the main reason Shadows seriously lacks in that regards.

Still having fun with it though, but only as naoe, with yasuke you can just rush everyone and get away with it, no builds needed. He seems like an afterthought sadly.

Honestly? They need to at least make a much better game than the first one, that'll be a good starting point and maybe then we can start talking about matching multi-studio effort of AC Shadows and what they achieved after 7 years of 100% justified criticism in regards to AC games and just their games in general.

Dispise? Wasn't my intention at all.

My point was (maybe I worded it wrong, for which I apologize) that I find it very hard to believe that Sucker Punch can match what Shadows did based on what I've played and seen in GOT, and we're talking about the GOT sequel here so... Like, I've played their past games like inFamous and stuff, didn't grab me at all, then I played GOT and got bored to death by everything except visuals - it's not the most technically advanced game, far from it, but it looks good for what it is - they chose very specific art style for everything and I don't mind it.

I just don't think SP have it in them to make a better game this time around based of what I've played and on my personal experience with their games and that's why I think they're the worst out of all 1st party studios at Sony, which doesn't mean I hate or despise them, they're just not making games for me at all hence I'm extremely sceptical, nothing more, nothing less. Did Ubisoft set the world on fire by AC Shadows? Hell no, but it's without a doubt one of the very few best AC games I've played and I've played like 90% of them except portable ones and small releases.

I was shocked how much I liked (and loved even) AC Shadows, cuz before recently I could't give a shit and I haven't played any AC game after Origins cuz I got bored out of my mind after 30 hours and what I've heard of Odyssey, Valhalla and Mirage when it comes to open world stuff and how especially the first two was designed with time savers in mind to past the grind... Ugh.

That's fair. I certainly don't agree that it isn't possible for Sucker Punch to make a sequel to GoT that is better than AC:S because at this point I don't think Shadows is a better game than GoT. That's just my opinion. Maybe it will change by the time I'm done with Shadows, but not really the point. One isn't automatically a Sony fanboy for not agreeing with your take on GoT and Sucker Punch. Maybe that was also not your intent, and fair enough if so, but that's how you came across.

Its a shame that all fancy shit in Shadows like crawling, taking out lights etc is literally worthless because guards will just stand around, failing to see the protoganist even when out in the open. Its broken beyond belief.
The fact that Shadows has what 5 years on GoT? Like it really should have more mechanics, or iterate on them, but the fact is that iterative or not they are simply not integrated WELL or polished enough. Meanwhile GoT was polished in every aspect, had a excellent story and visuals, much much better combat and actual difficulty options. Its stealth might have been simpler but at least it worked…
But yeah guards hearing footsteps is not impressive man, MGS1 did all that in 1998 with different surfaces being louder, MGS2 guards noticed shadows and the like. Its not impressive in Shadows sorry.

I am, which is why I'm calling it out. It's just doesn't bring any constructive criticizm to a conversation and some people here can't even say anything to prove their piont except giving a LOL reaction, which is pathetic and telling me everything I need to know of said person.

I hate to answer with a question but... why does it have to be worse? Like, if you borrow something from someone, like core concept and how some systems work, add your own spin, some new mechanics and stuff, I think it has to be on a certain level of quality and if not surpass other people's work, then at least be on the same level and you know, when people talking about Sony 1st party studios, they have certain expectations cuz they cost a lot to make, again, your expectations are high and when you get something like GOT... Like, I can't name a single thing in GOT which I liked except visuals. Combat got boring very fast and haven't changed at all or much by the end, I didn't liked MC, everything about him, his companions and the main story, all the side quests were boring af, same thing I can say about AC Origins as well, except that I like Aya and the setting. I would argue that GOT is not even better than AC3 when it comes to story, characters and setting, this game has problems of its own (especially by the end), but it was a blast to play at the time after Ezio games, was something really new and fresh, changed a lot for the future of the series... until they decided to reboot it again in 2018, made it worse and now after almost a decade they're changing things again like they did with AC3 back in the day for the better.

So, why should I think that the GOT sequel will be better than the first game? Everything I've seen and experienced points to No. Will I be happy to be wrong? Absolutely! But after AC Shadows it has to be something like a miracle, cuz this game did almost everything better starting with MC and story setup, gameplay and combat (for Naoe) and ending with exceptional realization of feudal Japan (maybe not true to life, but it's not a hardcore Japan simulator ffs!) and everything related to visuals. So yes, GOT sequel has to be better than the first game when it comes to every aspect and if they'll achieve at least that, then I'll be happy to say that they have grown and got better, but man I don't think they'll match AC Shadows, I just don't, I'm sorry, probably with their next game if they'll decide to make it a trilogy.

Fair fucks to you Sir.
