T-Mobile: iPhone 4S too slow for our network, our smartphones are better, faster...

T-Mobile thinks the iPhone is a good device and we’ve expressed our interest to Apple to offer it to our customers. Ultimately, it is Apple’s decision. The issue remains that Apple has not developed a version of the iPhone with technology that works on our fast 3G and 4G networks. We believe a capable version of the iPhone for our 3G and 4G networks would offer an additional compelling option for our customers on a fast 4G network. However, the iPhone is not the only option to experience the benefit that smartphones offer.

T-Mobile’s 4G smartphones stack up against competitive smartphones in terms of functionality, speed, features offered and overall experience – including the iPhone 4S. Reports continue of iPhones not operating well on some carrier networks, while our latest 4G smartphones offer many advantages vs. the iPhone 4S:

  • Capable of faster speeds
  • Bigger screens
  • Compelling service pricing
  • More advanced camera on the HTC Amaze 4G
  • More choice
We firmly believe that T-Mobile’s portfolio will give any iPhone a run for its money. We offer the increased processing power and faster 4G speeds achieved by our fastest smartphones, the most advanced camera of any smartphone on the HTC Amaze 4G, and our industry-leading 4.52” super AMOLED display offered on the Samsung Galaxy S II.

With our portfolio of Android, Windows, and BlackBerry smartphones, fast 4G network, and competitively priced worry-free unlimited talk, text, and data plans, we believe it’s a great time to be a T-Mobile customer.

i don't know what i feel, other than that i can't stop laughing. this is such a ridiculous press release on so many levels... wtf li'l purple?

What a trollish title. They even said they think it would be great to offer it to their customers but it's not up to them.

Should they have said "Well we give up, don't buy phones from us because, well, we don't have an iPhone...and if you don't have an iPhone, you don't have an iPhone."

Company says other company's product is crappy. News at eleven.
They didn't even say that. The worst (?) they said was they had devices that will give it a "run for its money"

I don't think Apple wants to make a variant on the iPhone JUST to support T-Mobile's 3G protocol, which does not work on current iPhones.

It sure must sting though, that Apple is giving the iPhone to a regional carrier like C-Spire before they give it to T-Mobile.

Thread title is ridiculously misleading. In fact, it is erroneous.

This is just TMo putting public pressure on Apple and tell its customers they tried to get the iPhone. Makes sense to me.

Forgive my ignorance (UK-Age) but I thought T-Mobile were on GSM. How come their 3G doesn't work on the iPhone?

Tmo US uses a different 3G GSM frequency than AT&T.

OT but I just a want a smartphone that isn't the size of a textbook. They are few and far between, and those are usually the lower end models.

To support T-Mobile's 3G, you need band support of 2100 MHz.

Edge compatibility is there, though.

i'd love to see your textbooks!

and how do you plan to utilize a high end smartphone with a tiny screen?

hmm, highlighting their attempt to get the iPhone on their network while simultaneously pointing out the strength of their offerings.

how dare they!

horrible thread title. The first paragraph states they would carry the phone if they could.

and

"T-Mobile ’s 4G smartphones stack up against competitive smartphones in terms of functionality, speed, features offered and overall experience – including the iPhone 4S ." Which is true.

Did they not say the 4S is too slow for their network? And did they not say their other smartphones were better? So how is the thread title bad?

T-Mobile loves to have the fancy phones they offer take advantage of their 4ishG network, and the iPhone 4S isn't compatible with it. What's so horrible or controversial about this?

Nope. I read.... "T-Mobile thinks the iPhone is a good device and we’ve expressed our interest to Apple to offer it to our customers. Ultimately, it is Apple’s decision. oh and about their phones being better:

"Many advantages" does not tell the whole story and doesn't mean their phones are better. All the phones could be shitty, but have one or two features that are better than the competition. Those are the advantages.

It's not. OP trying to create fanboy drama where none exist.

LOL at you not including the part of the quote that gives the reason why the phone isn't used at Tmobile.

I doubt it matters anyway, t mobile blows in the us. Could it possibly be Apple doesnt want to waste the effort on a company thats merging in a few months anyway.

I'm guessing ATT cockblocked Apple from going pentaband for the 4S.

Incredibly trollish title.

Translation: The issue is that Apple has not developed an iPhone that supports the 1700/2100 AWS 3G band.

Where does that say the "iPhone 4S is too slow for our network?

'Hey, iPhone is good, hell, good enough that we contacted apple to get it on our network.'

*lists reasons why it is not good*

They have to fill out the feature phone section since Nokia seem to be falling out.

I responded to treefinger's question. The quote I left out isn't about 4S being too slow for tmobile. I found it wasn't needed in my reply. Let me know why it was important. Apple hasn't developed an IPhone compatible with tmobile's network.

"The issue remains that Apple has not developed a version of the iPhone with technology that works on our fast 3G and 4G networks." - is the missing quote.

I love Gaf.

SHUT THE FUCK UP TMOBILE AND LET ME HAVE A FUCKING IPHONE ALREADY.

yeah, im a bit mad I still don't have an iphone.

Yeah right , i had to walk into a building and T-mobile's service would stop for me. I'll never let that pretty lady in the pink dress fool me again.

It's not just T-Mobile. If Apple made a phone compatible with T-Mobile, then Wind over here in Canada could get an iPhone. And right now they have a fucking plan that is $29 a month for unlimited EVERYTHING + voicemail etc. The works. If they got an iPhone, I would be so happy.

They should have one iphone that is compatible with all network, and all will be right in the world. That is, after they've bought all of the other phone manufacturers.
