Tetris TENGEN in tetris compilation Tetris forever

Wondering if anyone knows why the TENGEN version of Tetris isnt on the tetris forever compilation. I am interested in it but it isnt on the compilation for some reason.

If I remember correctly it's because the Nintendo version is pretty much superior in every single way. But I understand why you'd want it for collectors sake
I think it more has to do with the Tengen/Nintendo beef back in the day. There was this whole thing over who actually had the licensing rights to Tetris because of all the weird shit with Russia and of course Tengen was making cartridges on their own cutting out Nintendo...it's a long story.

Tengen was declared to have committed copyright infringement with their reverse engineered lockout chip AND they did not have the publishing rights to Tetris that they thought they did.

There's a couple of good Youtube videos about these cases, but the Tengen version is legally pirate software so it's unlikely to be included in a retail collection.

It's too bad too, because this was the version my family had and I'd like to be able to play a real version of it again.

I guess Tengen thought they had the rights for the NES port. They didnt have it so Nintendo bought the rights instead. Looked nice cause of all the graphics in the backgrounds.

I bought the Tengen version at Toys 'R Us the day it released. I thought it was better than the NES version when I played that later. My copy melted in a house fire. I was hoping it was in Tetris Forever. Sad that it isn't. As excited as I was at the announcement of the collection the content is pretty meh.

What sucks is that version of tetris as well as all the other Tengen games are not on the switch. Nintendo can't forgive a beef from 35+ years ago?

I want:
TETRIS
Toobin
RBI baseball
Guantlet
Klax
Afterburner.

Or how about wizards and warriors and iron sword... Dragon spirit...

Tengen, Acclaim, and namco games, why are most of the cool ones missing from switch nes?

As for tetris forever... It's a rip off. I got the tetris forever game and it was very lackluster. I remember playing tetris on Dos in 1990 and it had cool Russian buildings and winter scenery as the backgrounds with that awesome tetris music. For a dos game in CGA (maybe ega) graphics it was pretty great, but that wasn't even on the tetris forever game. What they had there had no scenery or music. It was kind of shit. They hyped that game up as a complete collection. It's not.

In that case I may bite. The video content in these Digital Eclipse collections has been very good.

It's a great companion to the Tetris movie actually. This tells the full story of Tetris.

The part I was describing was when Henk Rogers was pitching his Go game to Nintendo. He knew Yamauchi was a Go master, so he took the game in for him to play but Yamauchi (the guy selling the Famicom) couldn't even use the controller to play it so he made his assistant do it and told him what moves to make in the game.

If you love Tetris it's a must-have.

That compilation is missing a load of interesting stuff. How can you have a Tetris history lesson without the original Game Boy version? Also, gimmicky variants like Tetrisphere and Tetris 64. I guess Nintendo didn't want to cooperate at all.

The New Tetris is probably the biggest omission, as that had a cool new mechanic with the gold and silver squares, plus it was significant as the first game to include the T-spin move.
