The "Advanced Access" must be one of the worst anti consumer practices. Avowed has been cracked while the game won't be unlocked for another 3 days

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Like the ones that wait until the game is on Gamepass?

See Ya Do Not Want GIF by reactionseditor

It's a good gif, might as well not return with a take this monumentally bad.

Paying for early access rarely makes sense. I’ve only done it for Forza Horizon when the premium upgrade to game pass granted access and included future expansions.

Plus it helped me clear out some online stuff before the servers collapsed. Early access to a single player game… lol.
Same here my early access/premium editions are almost always when I get stuff down the road I would be buying anyhow

RESIZE FFS why no one can resize an image is beyond me. And no, mobile is not an excuse.

On topic: yeah it's terrible, and more and more games are doing it.
That’s one thing I try and do, even on mobile, is set the image to 360 or 480 in the horizontal field. Thinking about the desktop/labtop bros at the time. Been victim of it too much myself 🤣

Consumers complain when DRM is used, and now it seems they also complain about pirates playing games before them.

Advanced Access is pretty stupid either way though.

Or the DRM approach, though that may come with some performance losses
DRM is another way to prevent piracy yes, but with so many publishers not using it probably means they don't believe piracy impacts sales significantly, at least not enough to justify spending money on it.

This is one of those things where it's like... why does it matter if some people want to pay extra to play early?
Just scrams of some sort of FOMO syndrome to complain.

If you didn't already feel bad about people paying money to play earlier then you shouldn't also feel bad about pirates being able to either.

"Anti-consumer" is not a thing.

Buy it or don't. No none selling you entertainment is your antagonist.

"Anti-consumer" is like calling McDonald's "anti-fitness." You put that burger in your mouth, friend. Infantile language.

It's sitting at "very positive" on steam right now.
Because despite GAF’s sad desperation for this game to be bad and shit all over it, it’s actually pretty decent.

Yes, it has problems with the story and some dialogue. Yes, the RPG elements pale in comparison comparison to something like BG3 or KCD2. But the game looks good, feels good to play and the world is fun to explore.

Every customer should be treated equally. You dont see this bullshit with movies, music or books.

1. LOL yes you do. Service fees, matinee vs. evening prices, adult vs. child, senior discounts, teacher discounts, hardback vs. paperback...
2. Every customer IS treated equally. Every customer can buy or not buy. A game early is a different value proposition than a game later - and it's a sale to which everyone has access.

None of the devs I really care to patronize pull this type of shit. I'm quite confident that everyone can skip any of the games with extended advanced access periods and nothing of value would be lost.

I wonder how far they will take this. We are at 5 days now. I wonder where thirsty desperate gamers will draw the line. Two weeks? A month?

The Avowed OT thread is very busy, so a lot of people paid that $20 fee for 5 days. So many people who have to have it the second it is available. Zero patience. I get it though. I have the itch to play a game when it comes out, but I have been burned enough that I tend to wait these days.

I think there are a lot of gamers that just want too play a game on day 1, or day -5, and do not care much about whether it is good or not. Just having the latest greatest and shiny new thing is good enough. Who cares if the game is a stripped down simplified version of a 15 year old game. It's new!!!

Game doesn't have any protection, pretty sure Goldberg emu just works on it. So not a big deal, but it is hilarious for those who paid a lot to get this early

Im talking about early access bullshit where you pay more so you're not hit with delayed access.

It's just fucking dumb.

You charge people who are legit interested in the game an additional 20 bucks (nice way to treat your fans) while sucking the momentum out of your release because anyone who is not a die-hard fan and is maybe only moderately interested and not willing to fork over 90 bucks is going to watch a Twitch stream and see all the game has to offer 5 days before it becomes available to them.

It's a monumentally dumb strategy.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I honestly have no issue with it. It's 100% a consumer problem.

You have to have TWO fucking things that nobody else seems to have:

PATIENCE and RESTRAINT

Companies and business are ALWAYS going to try to exploit this....nobody better so than nvidia....and it falls on consumers to start pushing back.
