According to a source familiar with the plans, both games will be released digitally on PC later this week. They’re expected to arrive with all of their original expansion packs included, but it remains unclear if the legacy games will also make it to consoles at some point.
The Sims released back in 2000 and it’s been all but impossible to play the Will Wright-designed game about managing the daily lives of semi-autonomous virtual avatars for years. The first Sims was a disc-only release, and The Sims 2 was taken offline over a decade ago, with new digital copies only available to pre-existing owners briefly via an Ultimate Collection on Origin that was removed in 2014.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Sweet. The first two games (especially the second one!) were great fun. Starting with the third game, and especially the fourth, it kinda went off the rails.

I wonder if they will be reworked

Sims 1 is hell to run (old version of DirectDraw) and on a 1440p screen, you can't see anything

Sims 2 does not detect resolutions above 900p by default, anti-aliasing does not work and I am convinced that there are other lighting or shadow bugs. In short, it needed a lot of mods.

The ideal would be a remade Sims 2 engine, x64 compatible and supporting the speed of SSDs. Removing all the slowdowns caused by the extensions. But, it will not happen.

Seems like a slam dunk but let's watch and see how EA somehow screws this release up...
This would be my immediate concern. What's going to be wrong with it? Always online? Some other strange issue? I love the original Sims and still play from time to time.

Not sure what I'm doing right, but it runs and looks fine? - Though I don't run the game at 1440p, I run at regular resolution (800x600 maybe?) and the screen supports that with no problem.

Hopefully it has an always online requirement.

I hope this is true. I would like to get it from my wife. When she was pregnant with our son. She had to do a lot of bed rest, so she pretty much just played Sims 2. It kept her occupied, and let her express some fantasies of killing and torturing a lot of people when the pregnant crazy brain took over. I always lamented not grabbing it when EA was giving it away. Hopefully this gives me a second chance.

"Sir we have nothing new coming anytime soon"
"Release the Sims"
"...the Sims is already out and has been for many years"
"Release it again!"

The first game doesn't work for shit unless someone scans through the PC gaming wiki, a modern OS compatible release with native widescreen support would be great.

Should be interesting. I remember Sims 1 collection being janky busted (especially Hot Date) on my 2010ish system. If they smooth it all out, Ill give it a look.

Sims 2 with some texture updates and QOL updates, better camera, build tool, robust mod support, could easily make it the GOAT sims game.

Only played Sims 1 a bit. If I recall you could murder your Sims by walling them into a pool or maybe just wall them Cask of Amontillado style and wait for them to starve? Either way I assume they stopped letting you do that and that's why it is now a series for women.

Seeing as we have to deal with The Sims 4(ever) expansions for eternity, Sims 1 and 2 seems like a nice distraction to explore the past and bring back some memories although I don't know how much time I will spend on these games beyond some brief nostalgia.

I remember making a house where 90% of it was an indoor pool and the toilet was in the middle so they had to swim to use it.
One of my family members was really pissing me off so I put her in a room with only a refrigerator and a chessboard, then walled her in.

Hmm, most people who wanted those 2 already have them due to being abandonware. Wonder if they're gonna at least modernize it to new resolutions and add 64 bit.

If these games are not being reworked I don’t get the hype. The graphics are prehistoric.
Graphics don't make a game. I'd say The Sims 2 at least would still be very playable today, The Sims 1 more of a novelty I guess, but that's due to lack of content rather than graphics.

I'll probably be skipping these unless there's something special about them... I have the first three games installed on my Deck already. The first two have all the expansions.

Something tells me that these are just re-releases with nothing added except for EA App requirement. no thanks.

Memories. I remember my daughter building a room with a bed and putting furniture around it so my son got trapped, pissed himself and starved to death Grim reaper came and he cried ( he was 5 or 6 in real life). That was Sims 3. Sims 4 was missing so much. Best ones were Sims 1, 2, 3, and medieval.

Now do Sim city 4 and a new Sim city. Ea is restarted, city skylines made bank and 2 is choking on unity engine. They could make a good Sim city 6 but they won't.

As for Sims 1 and 2 is this on steam or is it origins only. Also

That's good news, these games can be a bit problematic to run on modern Windows versions. Sims 1 only supported 2 resolutions (800x600 & 1024x768) and required hex editing the games executable to enable custom resolutions. It also suffered from DirectDraw issues from Windows 8 onwards, hopefully this re-release will enable higher resolutions.
Sims 2 mostly works ok, though if the game cannot detect your graphics card it will fall back in safe graphics mode that disables most of the effects, and may result in black boxes appearing underneath the sims, can be fixed by modifying the graphicsrules.sgr file.
I wonder if EA will re-release the console spinoff titles (Urbz & The Sims Bustin Out) which are pretty unique titles with Urbz mainly focusing on an urban city environment, whilst Bustin' Out having its own level based story mode.
