That is true. I guess were use to the odd purchase of companies (from all sides) this is just the biggest and so if it's no longer multiplatform the most impactful.

Will be interesting how this plays out. I've no idea which would make Microsoft more money (exclusivity vs profits from all formats and console sale/gamepass uptick). The latter is so hard to quantify in financial terms on a spreadsheet it makes it impossible to know what Microsoft's long term plan is.

Sony fans should be happy that Xbox are finally throwing their hat in the ring. If Xbox hadn't bought any studios, the narrative would be "Xbox has no games". With the acquisitions of the last two years, Xbox are making themselves competitive. Good on them. They should make all the Zenimax games Xbox exclusive too.

Not really, Sony already moneyhatted BGS games Ghost Wire and Death Loop and apparently were trying to moneyhat Starfield. Since Xbox is honoring the contract from before the acquisition Xbox gamers still won't be able to play the 1st 2 BGS games for the period of timed exclusivity but thanks to this deal they WILL be able to play Starfield day 1 on Game Pass. Sony gamers not so much.

Valid points. I guess from my perspective I'd be totally fine with delayed releases (either side). For me its infinitely better than not having the title at all. If that was the result of this new deal say a 6-12 month exclusivity window for X Box I'd be totally content with that as a gamer.

Oh give me a fucking break. Exclusivity deals happen all the time in this industry and many others — but you already know that and just want to piss and moan about it.

Not on the scale of this deal. Were talking multiple studios all at once. As a Playstation gamer and on the verge of choosing a next gen console it interests me to learn the ramifications. It's a negative for sure (more than likely) but it's hardly the end of the world. It's always worth discussing the implications industry wise.

It's not the same thing. Sony was buying timed exclusives from BGS when they were neutral 3rd developers to keep the games away from Xbox gamers.

These developers are no longer neutral 3rd party developers, they are Xbox 1st party studios. There is no reason for Xbox to offer their $7B investment to people that haven't bought into the Xbox ecosystem.

I understand you want to play these games, but that's like Xbox gamers expecting Sony to put HorizonFW, GoW, Spiderman etc. on Xbox 6 months after they release on PS5. At least with Xbox games you can play them on PC if you have a gaming rig.

Only people that buy a PS5 can play GoW, Uncharted, TLOU, etc. Exclusives are a thing that have been in the industry for decades. Wanna play Bethesda stuff now? Buy MS hardware, play on PC, or game stream on Game Pass Ultimate and Android or PC.

Once upon a time everybody could play new Insomniac games, now only some of us can. Are you still excited for Spider-Man or anything Insomniac makes?

The difference is before, everyone could play Insomniac's new games on PC, Xbox, whatever platform a publisher contracted them to make a game on. Now they make games ONLY Playstation owners can play.

Everyone with a PC, Switch, mobile device, Xbox or Playstation could Zenimax games yesterday and they still can. Just like with previous acquisitions, Microsoft is honoring contracts studios have already penned to put their current in-progress games including the grubby money-hatted timed exclusives Sony paid for. Sony paid to artificially limit to a single platform for a set time period, something Microsoft used to get shit for all the time. After that they are an exclusive studio and will make games for Microsoft to put on whatever platform they decide to. I doubt Sony would handle things the same way.

I don't know if you can compare a third party going first party to a first party going multi platform. In the former the games already have established fan bases looking forward to the next games. I don't expect Halo or Gears to go to Playstation as they have always been MS exclusive.

I also wasnt happy when Microsoft did it with Rise of the Tomb Raider and Sony with Street Fighter 5. I guess its just bought exclusivity that was previously multiplatform that I dislike, what ever side of the fence that falls on. I do think Bayonetta 2 and Deadly Premonition 2 are rare examples though where had it not been for the exclusivity the game would not have been made in the first place.

Money wise who knows what Microsoft has planned. Exclusivity would increase consoles sales and bolster Gamepass but would that make up for the deficit of all those lost unit sales had they kept selling to everyone (I.e Minecraft). Bethesda value would go down with the former but conversely MS value would go up. It's super complicated to balance on a spreadsheet, just like Gamepass is at the moment. I can honestly see it going either way (with Gamepass playing a key role in either strategy).

PC is an option if Sony loses Bethesda support ultimately. I'd gain other first party titles but not sure if I want the extra cost, lack of a 4k drive and loss of Sony first parties. Its.a tough one based on my preferences.

Well with Insomniac they also had Sunset Overdrive as X-Box exclusive. Over time individual studios have gone first party were all use to that. But this to me at least is far bigger with multiple studios all going X Box exclusive all at once. For every Insomniac Sony gamers lost Obsidion, Double Fine etc. Sony is more aggressive with exclusive content and Microsoft more aggressive with studio acquisition. Both are bad for gamers in my eyes.

Your right though had Sony bought these studios they are the more likely of the two to make everything exclusive. I wouldn't approve of that either, obviously this just effects me more.
